Saw some of your stuff for sale and was hoping you weren't dropping out. Found this thread to quell my fears.

The setup looks great, especially the modified valve cover. Doesn't look so "old" and 80s'-ish.

...but how does it run?

Oh no definetly not quiting. It is all together and it sounds good when it does run. I have no iac so I have to adjust idle through the throttle body. It sucks because after it is warm I have to readjust. But between the plenum and cam and prolly lifters it is not drivable. I hit 15 lbs of boost in nuetral. It also is real choppy and lean as hell. Iam towing it to the Dyno maybe tomorrow to get the big bugs worked out. I also am throwing in larger injectors 750cc so we will see where that gets me. So yes buy my stuff so I can start the ls1 in the coupe!!!

Could you run an IAC on the plenum or not? If not, that kinda blows.

Is this turbo build in the coupe or the hatch?

Yes you can run one but I didn't want to run it remotly cause the things kinda big. But hopefully the Dyno man can tune it out. If not I've got it all put together ready to go in. This is in my hatch. Ls1 goes to coupe

sorry no thread link...it is in the fetal stages, so fetal i practically just found out i was pregnant fetal...im still all tied up with the hatch. i found out some more geniusness of that shop of which i dont mention...they ran my guages to a permanent power source, along with many other things. they shorted out my oil pressure gauge and had me worried that my engine didnt have oil pressure. it does but no idea how much...brand new oil pump and sending unit so i pretty sure oil pressure is good...so now since im a little ocd i ordered the autometer digital guages to replace them so they all match. it never ends......but you guys can help me out by buying my stuff that i dont need anymore

sohc oil pan already tapped for oil return...50jgs400 wastegate freshly rebuilt by jgs and still in box....200circuit sports control arms(I bought 2 sets)...400shaved intake plenum...30old valve cover...15autometer coolant temp gauge only...30autoguage boost gauge, 20 psi...30

nice build.. i hope all the bugs get worked out. it always sucks when you put all the time money and effort into something and it does not want to work.. so do you plan on just haveing a ba street car or are you going to kick that s*** sideways lol

okay so turns out my distributer was 1 tooth off...so for those of you who do turbo your sohc and you notice you can build upwards of 15lbs of boost in nuetral. you may be a tooth off.

oh weither this is a street car or track car....well its registered in california and doesnt ever need to be smogged again so it can be a street car but its looking more towards a track car.

How did you not have to register your car but still have it as a street car?

y do you not have to smog it anymore? or are you saying that you don't have to "smog" it? cuz in cali the cutoff is 74..... just curios about how you are getting around that

i get around it because there are counties in california that are not as strict on smog... for example my county "Humboldt" you only have to smog on change of ownership, meaning if i sell the car. but even that is exempt if it is sold to someone in direct family like a son or daughter. both of my cars were smogged when stock and now they dont have to again. the beauty about this is...you can go to any dmv in california and pay your registration as if you were in any county. for example i live in oceanside down in socal and pay every year here but they are registered in Fortuna up in Norcal.

Now to buisness, my car hit 334hp and 331tq at 13psi...tuning was cut short since i blew the line off my wastegate and hit 32 psi and pushed the headgasket...so now im trying my luck with the cometic headgasket again. It will be back together tomorrow as long as the head is still good.

from 2700rpms to 4200rpms i go from 120hp to about 315hp torque was about the same. i cant wait for it to be fully tuned out. Im stopping the boost at 20psi so what ever number i get from there is the number i get.

I'm looking at getting the exact same AMS kit for my SOHC. The only thing I plan on doing that you didn't is getting my rotating assembly fully ballanced. I'm even getting the JGS turbo kit. It's nice to see everything you want in an accual picture.

Great build thread, can't wait to see more.......

It is an amazing kit. Just keep in mind that the Jgs kit isn't a complete kit. And I did get my crank balanced. The guy actually commented on the fact that I prolly didn't need it since it was so close. But good luck with your build and if you got questions I prolly got answers. On a side note. Head is back on. I did blow out in cylinder four right through the water jacket. Cometic is on and will see Dyno runs Friday afternoon.

OMG... I would seriously be ticked. You seem like a guy with lots of patience. If I got onto the dyno and blew a HG I would be livid.

The build looks legit and I can't wait to see some serious number! GL!!!

okay some good news and some bad...good first omg this thing is fast yes i know it rained here but fith gear and traction is a joke. its home.the bad. clutch started slipping and 26 pounds of boost. further tuning to a hault because of clutch. mysterious overheating issue...only when driving like a soccer mom it overheats, wot cools down...maybe waterpump or thermostate. having issues with map sensor. took off with my camera on top of the car with all the dyno passes on it.

final as of before clutch slippage 462hp 458tq....clutch held 2 of those passes and then not so much...found the limit of the white bunny clutch setup. when i return i will be putting in a stage2 or 3 280zx clutch. And my starter issue turned out to be the relay in the fender area by the battery(its Blue 2 plugs, $38.74 at nissan dealership)

When i return the new cage will be here and i have to rewire everything. so I keep you guys posted in 91 days.

It's looking like I'm goin act. The white bunny held more than I thought. Especially being the whole setup cost like 225 with flywheel. The act stage looks like about 330. I have no doubt the stage 2 will hold concidering the stock autozone special clutch held thous far. I also had an overheating problem on the way home. Could be air in the system. If I go wot the temp goes down but granny driving temp goes up. I think I know what the problem is but will only disclose stupidity is pricey. When I get home from NC I will be installing my mazworx cage along with interior rewiring and interior beautification. I will also be swapping out my radiator for the mishimoto and fans. If the Godspeed passes the radiator tests it will be going into the ls1 project...once again stupidity is pricey. And my # 2 eBay bov I believe is broken so I will be getting the greddy rz and probably mounting it on the cold side like I originally wanted. My first bov actually split itself and this one might have to. The night I dropped them off I had like 4 hours to pack and go across the country so no troubleshooting could really be entertained. But when I come home in like 97 days it is goin back under the knife so stay tuned. Oh and tax season is comin too so stand by for the ls1 build "true pig build 2"

What the hell are you talking about? The KA24E is more than capable of handing boost as you can see from the man's amazing patience and hard labor. Don't be a d!ck and say s*** like that to discredit the KA24E's potential. He's pushing insane HP/TQ figures and like with any engine you're going to run into a few issues when doing so. Not only that, but most of the troubles he had do deal with came from a retarded p.o.s. speed shop that was doing most of the "early" stages of work for him and royally screwed him over.

I really appreciate all the money, effort, research and testing this man put into his SOHC. Because of his unwavering efforts, I'm not going to the join bandwagon of fanboy's and swap my SOHC for a DOHC.

This build thread is awesome! Not only because he's attempting to push the SOHC KA design to it's limits. Thanks for the inspiration! Good luck w/ the rest of the build man!
