Just got home from seeing the movie, only to hear about this on my ride home from the theater...

What are they putting in the water in Colorado? Very tragic. At least they caught the scum that did it.

Oh how badly I wish someone in the right place/right time was carrying and had been able to put this psycho down before he did this much damage. Last I read, the youngest victim was only 6 years old.

Article said a 3-month-old was one of the injured...

I have a friend out there who was at a premiere, now I'm worried. I really don't need three friends to die in the same year...

Better than the water in Florida. No zombie attacks in this story at least. Unless "opened fire on a theater" is code for zombie attack?

Not to detract from the horribbleness of this crime, but I feel compelled to ask. WHO BRINGS A 3 Month OLD TO A MOVIE? Especially a batman movie for ****'s sake.

Im curious to find out this psycho's reasoning.

Some people's kids.

CNN reported that some people thought it was a part of the movie, like a prop action thing to make it seem realistic. Witnesses claimed people were still sitting in their seats expecting the movie to continue as others ran out the door bloodied. Unreal...

Prayers are with the family. He had this orchestrated with gas, body armor, (explosive) and a booby trapped apartment.

This is unfortunately becoming every day news. We can talk, show compassion, discuss why things like this take place, but I have yet to see a solution put in place. Life in jail and execution doesn't work anymore. Gather all these people, murderers, rapist, and anybody who cannot be rehabilitated and put them on an uninhabited island. Let them live with their kind and the money we save from incarcerating these creeps we can have the coast guard patrol around the island. No family visitations, no TV, nothing. I remember a movie like this based on Australia once had an island prison.

I think the movie you're thinking of is No Escape. Movie plots than turn a public place into a prison has been used in a few movies. Off the top of my head: Escape from New York, Escape From LA, Johnny English. I'm sure there are more.

The poeple that do these things arent scared of ANY consequences. This guy gave up without a fight. Threatening jail, threatening death, threatening island "rehab" is nothing to them. It doesnt matter if we save money by not incarcerating them, is that really what we should be worried about right now? A dozen plus people just died. People are f*** crazy, thats about the end of it.

Unsurprising, there are reports that the shooter said he was the joker when the police arrested him. Looks like he's angling for an insanity plea.

Wow wtf goes through someones mind to make them do that??

I got chills reading the eye witness report in that article.
Witness wrote:She said the man first shot toward the ceiling, then began shooting at people. He reloaded during his attack, she said.

"He was just literally just massacring anybody that got up that was trying to run away," Seeger said.

The smoke smelled like a Fourth of July firework, said CNN iReporter Adam Witt. It took a few gunshots before he figured out what was going on.

iReporter witness: 'We have to run'

"I hit the floor and hid behind the seats in front of me, pulling my wife down to hide with me," Witt said. "It was the longest minute of my life. The gunshots just kept coming. I knew it could be over any second. I knew my wife could be gone any second. It was absolutely surreal. I felt something hit my left arm, and my first thought was, 'At least it's just my arm.'"

"There were so many people running," he said. "I didn't look back. I just remember getting up from the floor and shouting, 'We have to run.'"

Witt said he held his wife's hand as they rushed out of the theater.

"There was a moment where I lost her hand, but I grabbed her shirt," he said. "We didn't let go of each other."
They should give the shooter the chair.

its an alfred quote....

back on topic, I honestly hope that while all of this sparks different controversies in different areas of politics, the one thing that actually seems like justice to me isn't to mention gun control but rather the death penalty. This kid is a prime example of someone that should be punished for his crimes. He very intelligent, he did this pre-meditated (which is obvious by his planning and the explosive setup in his apartment), he needs to be punished! No defense should protect this one, definitely not the insanity plea! He wanted to kill innocent people, and that already makes him insane. It makes me sad, sick, and concerned at what I see our country becoming. The innocent people who have to suffer deserve justice. Sadly this kid will probably spend the rest of his life in a prison cell, paid for by citizens of Colorado, who unfortunately had to suffer through this horrible event because of one man's madness......

I steer clear of words like "normal." Depending upon the group you are in "normal" could mean lopping off your junk and going to visit the aliens in the HaleBopp comet.

The last time I saw Prometheus some couple walked in during the previews with a crying baby. People are idiots.

As long as the baby keeps its trap shut, I'm cool. I've seen chilled out kids that don't raise a ruckus. When it starts screaming, though, movie time is over for the parents. That is, unless it's anything with Lindsay Lohan in it. I will also be crying at the bad acting.

Need? That's a dangerous mode of thinking. Let's explore it for a moment.

Who "needs" a cigarette?
Who "needs" a beer?
Who "needs" a Big Mac?
Who "needs" sugary soda?
Who "needs" more food choices and portion sizes?
Who "needs" to grow their own food?
Who "needs" more land than they can use at one time?
Who "needs" a gas-guzzling car?
Who "needs" a gas-powered car?
Who "needs" more than one car?

Etc, etc. "need" is no metric for determining restrictive laws else you wind up in a police state where bloated self-serving politicians decide what you "need" and erect legal barriers to anything they don't approve of based upon that foundation. If you are not harming others and at worst only harming yourself you should not be barred from doing anything you want to do. It's called being free and it's no coincidence that the right to keep and bear arms comes second only to the freedom of speech. Time immortal has demonstrated that the second is often required to gain and retain the first from those that seek to deny it to you, often in the guise of ensuring you get what you "need."
