Parts store prices are jacked up. Reman starter for 240sx is $110 + Core. 350Z starter is $240 + Core.Used 350Z starters run around like $99 on eBay.

Well this is true...

But what I ment was go to the store and just ask to see them both. See if the gears mesh. Then tell the guy or gal your not interested. This way you can see if they work together.

Plus if you do some measureing you can figure out exactly if it will work

Not a bad idea. Except that parts store don't stock flywheels. Those are usually special order items from limited number of shop brands.

As for starter, the only starter that can be used is the 350Z starter, due to shape and limited space.

Is the white stuff along with the gunk at the bottom of the oil pan coolant leak from a broken head gasket?ThanksBTW, it has some brake cleaner fluid in it, was thicker before.

I haven't seen any trace of the white stuff on other parts of the engine. Though the engine has not been used for at least one year due to accident. I got the engine from a wrecked Maxima that got hit on the passenger door.

350Z oil pan doesn't take the pan foil plate from the Maxima. The places to bolt in are there, just no bolt holes.

The eBay motor mounts just came in. REALLY hard stuff.

Rear main seal taken off. Will be replacing it along with the oil pan tomorrow, hopefully.

Here's the rear main seal. For $45, it comes with the aluminum cover. All it needs is to be bolted down.

I have concluded that the white stuff in the oil pan was indeed coolant leak!

But considering that I have not seen ANY trace of it anywhere, I imagine that the engine was blown and someone replaced the head gasket, but the oil pan was not removed and cleaned out, thus the coolant in the bottom of the oil pan, along with a bunch of gunk.

Here is the upper oil pan where the bolt holes are supposed to be.

So I drilled some holes to bolt them down. Had to cut the corners on the plate too.

^ Can you post allot of details about the batt. rust location repair as well as the engine bay?

I have tons or rust in the same location and would like to have a few people's take on the situation and how they corrected it in order to find the best way to takle it...

BTW those mounts look indesructable...Is the third one for the trans?

I'll be taking out ALL the rust from the engine bay tomorrow. Including the rusted up battery holder. Grinding wheel and Dremel bits are my friends.

Just an hour worth of progress. Can you tell what I did?

Fuel filter has been there all the time. This car came with a tank full of gas.You can tell when it was sold to the auction block.

If only the idiot owner was smart enough to pull up the passenger window using the driver side controls.

Just finished up cleaning the bay and sanded down half of it. No pics. I forgot my digicam.

Just got my 350Z flywheel. It's pratically brand new and you can even see the factory waves on the surface. I'll be using it to get correct measurements for the throw-out bearing.

I'm going to sell it back. I'm using Maxima ECU so this flywheel is not very useful for me.

I took some mock up pics of the super ghetto manifold on my red coupe.

My red coupe with NISMO wheels from the Spec V.

This is my Spec V. I don't belive I have posted its pics before. The thing looks good with the Nissan burger gone. The thing is pretty decent for the price. I wish they had better suspension in the back and put an MR22 engine in it. That's a lot more gas saving for same torue.

You can never tell on these things, especially if you don't have about $5,000 on hand and a garage you can access anytime.

I'm expecting to sand and paint the engine bay tomorrow (already cleaned), Fab motor mounts on Tuesday and drop in the engine. The transmission will be attached only AFTER the the starter clears the flywheel and throw out bearing spacer has been fabbed.I don't have a starter on hand and don't have a way to measure the fitment to the flywheel without turning the crank. So I'm going to use the Z flywheel to get all the measurements.

I'm sure at least the engine will be in by the end of this week, the transmission will follow afterwards. After that I'll work on mounting up the starter, alternator, AC on the engine. All that should be done by next week as well. I'm going to quit my part time job on Saturday to get extra time to work on it.

By the end of the month, I expect to be taking out the dash and wiring up all the stuff. I'm not going to buy a drive shaft until after the engine starts running. $300 is not something to put into for a long time without use. The key to a successful budget swap is to buy things only when they are needed, unless you're getting a sweet deal.

The current inake mod will be replaced after the engine is done. I'm going to fab one that has long runners with smoother piping and wider enterance. Also, I'll be using aluminum on aluminum welds to keep off the heat and put koolmats on top to get the best NA effiency.

I'm going to try and fab the engine and transmission mounts together. I need bolts for the transmission.

Rust taken out as much as possible and painted over.

Cleaned engine bay. Needs more masking tape.

Mounted 350Z pan. INSTALL THE REAR AND FRONT MAIN SEALS FIRST!

Anyone know what the bolt sizes are for 350Z transmission to engine bolts? I have only the length of the bolts from the FSM. There is no indication of bolt diameter (I assume M12 for larger ones) nor the thread. ( 1.25???)I'm trying to attach the transmission tomorrow. Thanks

i just bought the bolts for the transmission mounting. The upper 6 bolts are M12 with 1.75 thread pitch and the lower ones are M10 with 1.50 thread pitch. The lengths are as in 350Z FSM.

Just painted the engine bay with primer and had a professional painter friend paint it for $100. I'll have pics tomorrow evening.

I'm wasting trees and printing out wiring diagrams for the Maxima and the 240 to see how I can interface the A32 ECU to the S13 body electronics, namely the dash gauges and the speed sensors.

If anyone have tips on retro fitting the HUD, it'd be great. Thanks

The engine bay has been painted gloss black and waiting to get dry. It needs a little sanding, or maybe I'll go without it.

I NEED THE WASHER FOR MAXIMA FLEX PLATE ASAP (NO. 16 in pic). someone please contact me.

I bought a washer from Joe on the Maxima forum. This will help me mount the Maxima flywheel to work with the 350Z starter.

Base of the 350Z flywheel is 3/4 inches from the gear ring teeth. The Maxima has 1/4 inch distance. Each Maxima flex plate washer is 1/8 inches. Adding in 2 washer plates puts additional distance of 1/4 inch.

For the last 1/4 inch distance, I'll put washers on the starter mounting to make up for it since raising the Maxima flywheel further will make it come off the center hub of the crank and held on only by 8 flywheel bolts.
