I just paid for the car this Monday and started working on it a bit on Tuesdays evening. Today I got some pics and had a bit of work on it.

Planned mods

VQ30DE engine from Maxima (1995-2001) or Infinity I30.Maxima MT ECU (I'm still trying to figure out if the ECU will talk with 6-Speed and the HUD)350Z / G35 6-Speed Manual swap.Custom aluminum 1-piece drive shaft300ZX VLSDCustom aluminum oil-panCustom fitted PathFinder Intake ManifoldCustom fitted G35 exhaust manifoldAdditional chassis bracestarget weight : 2400LB dry weight.

Anyway, here are the pics

It winks

Someone told me the window was gone. All it needed was to use this switch.

Not knowing how to wind up windows cost a lot of damage.

Like this

Some ricer tried to wire in woofers in the trunk.

And put on this POS, and painted the red car a maroon.

Dash was cracked with rain and Sun.

The KA has bad bearings, it still cranked and ran till I got my hands on it and took out the parts. I'll be selling them.

Nasty wheels.

I have three of them and one tear-drop if anyone wants to buy or trade.

Not the same but similar engine, similar weight.

Right now I'm researching into interfacing Maxima ECU and stock 240sx cluster with HUD and a 6-speed. (which 4th gen Maxima never had)

Seems like a fun project! How much did you pay for that heap?

It should be very possible because I just saw an FC3S with a VG30 crammed in it over the weekend.

I wanted an FC but the parts are too expensive.

I paid $650 for that car plus T&T. I get to use the warehouse space for additional work in return. Not bad for something with 150K on the odo.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen clear coat peel that bad. That's nuts.

This looks worse than mine when I got it... weeds growing... Good luck man, it looks like a fun project none the less.

IMO, the digital clusters are not worth the time, or money, they are cool for the first week, after that you will miss the analog.

VQ35DE has more computers, sensors and wiring to mess with.I don't feel like paying $350 for a secondary O2 sensor that must be placed behind a working CAT, etc.

the vq35 also bolts to a rear wheel drive transmission for sure, what transmission are you gonna use? what engine mounts are you gonna use?

again how are you gonna mount the transmission to the motor, will it fit, how much will the adapter cost you? on the maxima is the stock transmission part of the engine mount system? if so where and how are you gonna mount the engine in the 240?

VQ30DE will be using VQ35DE 6-Speed transmisson.

If something doesn't fit, I make it fit. So fitment is not really an issue. :PThe transmission mount is a stock KA24DE transmission mount made to fit.

Transmission just needs to fit in at the crank shaft. If the bellhousing doesn't fit, one can always weld in a bell housing that fits.

JDM Skyline, Stagea and other RWD cars have VQ20DE to VQ35DE on the same models. They are essentially the same block with different heads. So yes, the transmission fits with no issues.

Wow, that interior is pretty poor, but trying to get to 2400 with the VQ will probably mean a healthy gut job...

I got a great idea for that wing - same thing I did with mine...

I split mine in half. :P

As for swap itself. This guy had it down to 2040LB.http://videos.streetfire.net/v...9.htm

But I'm not going that far. I mean I still want hood and interior. I'll be fabbing and replacing parts with aluminum from junkyard to reduce weight.

My old thread doesn't have picture but I can get your some. It has 'about' 60k on it and was said to have came from a running car. Its a complete motor minus the accessories. I payed about $600.00 but I will take a offer for it. I was going to do the same thing as you but changed my plans after finding out some more information on some laws in my state.

I can get $350 or so in my town so I don't think it'll be a good deal for us after shipping from CA.I'm going to be taking about 2 weeks to strip and prep this thing. It's easier to work on a car when there isn't an engine and transmission inside it.

I just finished some research on VQ30DE engine.Out of the two variants, the newer and more powerful VQ30DE-K has a different ECU that uses butterfly valves and pressure sensitive dual intake manifold routing to bump HP from 190 to 222.

But it also uses digital cluster control for odometer while the older VQ30DE uses analog odometer.Because I want to keep the HUD setup from my 240sx SE coupe, I've decided to go with earlier VQ30DE and ECU setup.

Earlier VQ30DE cluster

Newer VQ30DE-K cluster.

The newer Kizen engines are also a few hundered dollars more expensive. I think I can put that toward better intake and exhaust instead. I'll probably end up making a custom intake manifold out of the stock intake.

I just paid the junkyard another visit. The 300XZ front and rear brakes are all gone. Sorry. I might take a VLSD for myself. Saw a couple of J30 too but I don't know how easy their front brakes will fit.

There were a few Maxima and I30 but the engines were too expensive and in poor shape. I'll probably look else where.

wow...what a project!. That thing is rough! Gl with all the changes. If you can hold that other teardrop till !st of June I might be able to buy it from you ..depending on price..and pick it up(have a trip to Mayo scheduled then). I just want a regular sized spare. You'll make it shine one day.

No work on the project today since I had to work OT and didn't get home till 7:30. But I put the SE-R Spec V battery in the other 240 coupe and fired it up. The SE-R is supposed to have more powerful QR25DE and faster FWD and 6 Speed but the old KA pulled quicker on acceleration even without butterfly valves and also cornered better with rear shocks blown.

That's why I'm not letting go of my S13. ^___^

So I found out that the upper oil pan for 350Z that I need to make VQ30DE FWD work with 350Z 6 speed MT is only $115 from the dealer.

Now I started looking deeper into the intake manifold.

The difference between 1995-1999 Maxima and 2000-2001 Maxima is that the newer model have better flow on the intake and exhaust. So I looked even further into that and found out that Pathfinder with VQ35DE engines have similar intake design that is dual-stage. Nothing fancy like VVTL or anything but it helps in base performance of the air intake to make torque and high end HP.

Notice that there is a 180 degree bend on the longer stage route for the low end torque.I'm assuming that eliminating that would help even better with flow.

I'm planning to get a Pathfinder intake, cut it up and make smoother through out the longer bend and larger flow through the shorter bend.
