Well push PA a little closer to IN and you'd be closer

lol yep, that diff is actually being sold, but i've been thinking about diffs a lot and gearing. this thrust washer should make the vlsd preform similarly to a 1.5 way. i could have gonna thicker and have it lock closer to a 2 way, but im afraid that'd be too much like a welded diff

Interesting.I'm writing down that part # for the shim for when I get a vlsd. I'll have to deal with my boring open diff for now .

after reading most of that thread, i found that stacking a new shim with the old one can cause warping. so im using just this one. the thickest one (1.49 mil) is fine on its own though

I should have figured it out.So...you are going to revive an old vlsd.

I have read that the vlsd is not as good as Kaaz 1 or 1.5 or 2, but I bet you are going to show us how to make it for a fraction of the cost.

More pictures please.

oh are correct, not as good as an aftermarket clutch type unit, but from the reviews i've read, it'll be damn good. i paid like $100 shipped for by vlsd which dropped right in and this shim was $7.45 with tax, so do the math. more pics to come wednesday, i'll be off in the evening. i was supposed to have off all day tomorrow and thursday but they just changed my damn schedule after teh week started

Gah you didn't give me enough time to answer! Haha i knew exactly what it was right when I saw it...I plan on doing this as well. I see you got the biggest one eh? For me it's between that one and one step down from that, but I would want it to act like a welded diff so I'm probably going to get the big one. $7.45 is awesome

lol yeah i only got the biggest one cuz im running it by itself, not with the one thats already in there. be itself, it wont lock all the time like a welded, but combined with your stock one it will

updates coming today, this is my first day off in over a week so i can finally get something done
240lookis wrote:what needs to be done, or i guess what do you want to get done before the car is finished?
the front half of the underbody still needs to my truck bed lined, removed teh diff from the subframe and add shim, reinstall whole subframe then, install ES bushings for the front end, install kyb struts, finish wire tuck and relocation, install turbo manifold, engine, intercooler and trans, finish sound deadening install and reinstall interior, lots of little tings to, but thats basically it

way off topic i know. to make up for it-->i like the black calipers..i plan on doin the same, im not gonna be original and get red
hbpignosePA wrote:haha actually where hes building the car thers an amish school across the street

no lie

they are funny folk, not using technology and all

sorta admirable

hah i dont know how i missed these comments, but hbpignose is right, theres an amish school house right across the street and amish fields every where, but no i do not party with them hahaha, thats funny that when you heard lancaster you thought of my build

and a slight update, nothing crazy. i spent the first part of my day helping a fellow nico member wire the type x front bumper lights, and while its always a pleasure to help someone out why did i do this, you ask? a free bumper of course!!!!heres a better pic of it inside

after that i uninstalled my rear diff and popped the cover off. i really hate yanking something out that i just put in, but i think it'll be worth it. i then took off the ring gear and opened up the viscous unit.

old shim

new shim

almost 2 times as thick, so this should lock like a beast now. i got everything buttoned back up and now i just need to out the vlsd unit back in the housing and then the rear subframe will be near completion.

as a bonus heres a random pic, its hard to see but if you closely, it's shocking
