not hard at all if you feel comfortable ripping it apart in there. it'll depend on total thickness of shims to tell how hard its gonna lock, the one for myself and the one im selling should both lock like a 1.5 way

i heard about the reshimming the VLSD is great but what i want to know is. Do you take out the old one or do you just put the new one on top of the old one? I know there are like three or four different shimming sizes, which one did you use?

alot of people have stacked the new one on top of the old one, but when using a larger new shim with the old shim it can cause warping. i used just one shim, the biggest (1.49 mm). for the diff i'm selling, i'm using 2 of the smaller ones

I think the best thing to do is what WC did, take the old one out and use one new one.

Is there a downside to shimming the vlsd?

Yes. The rejuvenated love for your old worn out lsd will cause serious side effects such as, but is not limited to, locking action when you want, locking action for a lot longer, increased tire wear, and wanting to feel what a limited slip actually should feel like.

WC...what do you mean by warping? I am most likely going to stack the 3rd one because I want it to behave like a welded.

lol yes, shorter tire life for sure

so WC, you just replaced the old shim entirely with a new 1.49mm shim and ~sHAzAm!~ 1.5 way?!

not sure, i'm just off of what i read, one individual claimed one of the shims warped when using 2 of them. no one else seems to have problems though.

from what i've read it makes it lock similar to a 1.5 way while using just one shim, the 1.49mm. i'll see for myself once the car's up and running

so it would be ok for me to stack a skinny shim on the old one then right

from what i understand, but don't quote me on it. if you're gonna buy one you may as well buy the biggest one, and only put one in.

i have a pretty good update but i left my camera at my parents. i'm debating if i should update without pics or wait til tomorrow. if you want i'll write my update now and post pics tomorrow, lmk i'm not doing anything right now just watching Seinfeld.
