I still have to research as to how thick or solid I can shape parts to.

Maybe I can embed plastic pieces into the fiberglass kit, this way not only will it be solid, but if a low impact accident happened, the original shape could be contained.SBC300 wrote:Bumper covers are typically made of either polyurethane or polypropylene, both are injection molded. With vacuum forming you will only be able to make a flimsy part with no lips. Stock bumper covers are not thin, in some places they are up to 1/4" thick. I am trying to tell you that you are failing and fiberglass is your only option. Bring me a credit card and the car and I can have your parts in 2 weeks.
Sorry dude, get your SCUBA gear, you're in way over your head.VigorousZX wrote:Maybe I can embed plastic pieces into the fiberglass kit, this way not only will it be solid, but if a low impact accident happened, the original shape could be contained.
wrong. He said two-hundredths (.02); not two thousandths (.002).Rager wrote:car nut wrote: Great idea! Use two-hundredths of an inch thick plastic to make car parts! Brilliant!lets make car parts out of plastic thinner than a human hair... FYI a human hair is .003/.005. i think red heads have thicker than that though
I have strong aluminum cutouts already embedded in the corners of the bumper and its much more solid then the surrounding parts... plastic could be something to experiment with in the future.SBC300 wrote:That wont work.

Hi Sandman, the kits is coming along slow but steady, and Im pretty happy with the results so far.Pieceofsand wrote:How is this project coming anyways?
They lace fiberglass with kevlar, maybe placing plastic panels in-between has also been done, could do wonders for impacts.BigTDogg (MA) wrote:VigorousZX wrote:Sorry dude, get your SCUBA gear, you're in way over your head.

For the most part, it's already been done by some guy in Cali. Vig ripped the design from him.infiniti_lineup wrote:What ever happened with this idea Vigor?
FRP = Fiber Reinforced Plastic. That would be your best material to make a bumper.VigorousZX wrote:They lace fiberglass with kevlar, maybe placing plastic panels in-between has also been done, could do wonders for impacts.
I made a time line of my planned projects, I changed that rear end slightly and still plan on doing it.infiniti_lineup wrote:What ever happened with this idea Vigor?

Maybe the vents in the concept but all the other parts copied are pretty generic.BeastZ32 wrote:For the most part, it's already been done by some guy in Cali. Vig ripped the design from him.

Even if I dont sell one, I still think it was worth two years of my life. First because it opened my eye to a new career, making replicas, and secondly because I think I will have a cool looking car without spending an enormous amount of money to have one.Cyman wrote:to be honest, I'm in a state of suspense regarding your project. not because I'm interested in your design itself but more because I want to see if you can actually sell any of them. I, like most, am guessing you're not going to make enough to compensate for the amount of money/time you've put into the venture, but I would like to see you do well with it. at least make it worth your time.
Definitely, Aston's iconic grill really makes the design its own, but its just perfect of all the grill shapes Ive rendered. It not only looks aggressive (mean) but also happy depending on the way you look at it.Cyman wrote:I've been following your thread from the very start, and to be honest I'm quite disappointed in the direction you took the design (so far). originally you were talking about making a "modern" 300zx. but I'm having trouble seeing any resemblance to a z32 in your design as it stands now (excluding the parts that are incomplete). I think the front of the car looks more like an Aston Martin than anything.
