For the first set of kits Ill have to keep it simple
JDMricist wrote:I thing this will be SICK if you use your own design and not copy or make the kit look like another car..
If you make it in your own image and it looks nice, that would be pretty sweet.
I found a bumper to my liking, and so far photoshop hasn't failed me so I can pretty much make it look like this

another reason this kit will never be done is it keeps changing. I don't think you know what you're doing enough because you don't seem to be working towards a final look. In every update the car looks different. If you spent half as much time photoshopping you may just finish this thing sooner

True, the design has been changing over and over again but my current design is similar to what I decided to go with last month, number one (top left) in the following picture
Image

Also Im getting pretty close to finishing, only the bumper is left... the rest is details like adding Bondo and sanding it down smooth.
Image

Playing around, I modified the 99 spec bumper and I think it looks pretty good... If the demand is right, I could make this too and sell them for $400 out of plastic, but this would be for next year.

I'm sorry, but if you think you're going to be able to sell kits to Z owners when they have to cut the fenders or do any kind of fabrication on their own, you're out of your goddamn mind. If you want to sell this "kit", you'll need to make it bolt up. You're also going to need new headlights, as the OEM Z lights will look very out of place. Celica or other elongated lights come to mind.

Again, as I've said before, I personally think you should have started with some other POS rather than a Z to do this work on. Or at least a Z that got mangled. But to do it to your own Z, that's just crazy.

Oh and lose the logo. Peugeot makes s*** cars, and no one wants the flaming lion on their grill.

I just be keepin it real

That grill looks horrible on the Jspec front.

One need to cut into the fender tips and unfortunately the hood will need holes in it also. If I sell more then ten kits I would like to make the pieces and full fenders out of plastic but for now mutilating the Zed donor will have to be the only way. One can buy used fenders or find some from wrecker to keep the stock painted ones.

Keeping the originals would cut costs drastically, I see LED to fill the outsides and Plexiglas to wrap around the stock headlights out to the edges. I think Mazda6 headlights could look good if modified/angled right, it depends on how much ones budget is.

I got my Z for pretty cheap, I had to fix the steering and replace the alternator, its has 160 miles and I knew I could always return it to stock.

:chuckle: since the car has a new identity I needed a cool badge but I wont be easily able to produce these so it would be badge-less. The infiniti or Nissan emblem should still look good.

ArticDragon192 wrote:That grill looks horrible on the Jspec front.
:gapteeth: I think it gives the car an edge, literally.

It says not street legal, must be the dam DOT laws.

To save money esthetically wise, its possible to convert the r33 to an r34 as seen here

Because everyone wants plastic fenders. :tisk:

Plexiglass will sure hold up well to rocks/debris from the highway.

Hence the problem with seeing all the montrosities over the past few years (and here)

New progress pictures, the bumper corners are still not right and the edges need to get sanded, but other then that, this is the basic shape of the design.

I guess Im a perfectionist, but its finally coming to an end.

I used clay in the mid section, but my clay is from nature and really rough. Currently I have plaster on it which is taking days to dry.

True, if I had to start all over I probably could... not having a final design and constantly tuning it is the biggest reason for my delay.

Carve foam foundation... tweak with clay.... finish with fiberglass.
I know you are just doing this because you like doing it, but you will never get a decent part out of what you have now.

I would like to move to plastic pieces once I sell a few cars here locally and have money to buy the molding equipment.

My next kit, the replica, that should turn out perfect and be made of plastic.

You have a quarter million sitting around to pay for injection molding dies?
You have no idea the cost of making those parts. Fiberglass or c/f are your only options.

I was recently told of this kind of plastic vacuuming...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUB58z8apTE

I still have to research as to how thick or solid I can shape parts to.

Great idea! Use two-hundredths of an inch thick plastic to make car parts! Brilliant!
