I chose my car because I had test driven two 240sx's before I bought my car, and because I knew of the handling potential 240's have over other cars in their price range.

If i had bought it for looks, i'd be a fool. Faded paint on front and rear bumpers and a cracked dash. Not quite a babe catcher....No, I bought this car for supercar performance killing potential, not supercar superficial potential.

But seriously, I can't help that a 240 looks gorgeous

Yokota, I don't have to prove anything to you. People, including rappers, have been stretching small tires on 15" wheels for over two decades...

So I guess the mazdaspeed3 gt, 350z, WRX, and the EVO all cater to the stupid?

Ummmm, no.

Stretched fitments actually had its beginnings in 2 places, coincidentally at roughly the same time.

1) The Southwestern U.S., in the Hispanic / Latino car community: Several reasons, all valid... old low-riders (la Bomba!) typically had narrow tires to begin with, and style dictates that wider, small-diameter wheels be fitted to look the part.

Much like prison-issue clothing influenced popular mainstream attire (saggy pants, slip-on shoes, wife-beaters / white t-shirts, d!ck), so went the tire trend. Narrow tires were cheaper, and the money was being spent on wheels, paint, plating and upholstery.

2) Japan, 1970's. Racing "styles" filtereed down to the mainstream. Race cars were running super-wide wheels, rules prohibited tires from peeking out beyond bodywork. Flares were added, and tire sizes were narrowed to fit within the bodywork, thus "cheating"...

Of course, interpretation of the "look" on the street leads to extremism, and stretched tires became the norm on the modded cars of 1970's Japan. There was a brief pendulum swing in the 80's / 90's towards more reasonable sizing, but the "old-school" revival of the 2000's brought stretch right back.

The necessity of narrow tires to achieve a sufficient "VIP" drop solidified the trend, and is incorrectly credited for the "style"...

It's been around.

Never seen any rappers with 15's on their cars. But I have seen race cars stretch tires on their wheels.

I think stretching tires to fit better wheels to make the car look better is great. Having sunken wheels makes a car look bad, **** a car doesn't even need to have stretched tires to have flush wheels.

I guess I'd just rather have a car that doesn't look like *** because of sunken wheels.

Well the owners of european, mostly german, cars actually had stretched tires back in the day too. It just started spanning around the world and many different countries around the world started stretching tires. But Japan brought about the new "stretch."

Very Educational.

btw i wasn't trying to say rap videos started the trend or anything...just that ever since i've seen a rap video, roughly 20 years ago, there's been cars rollin with stretched rubber bands...I guess that's just when I started noticing them.

I guess what I'm trying to say is stretched tires on wheels that come close to smashing out your fender isn't practical or worth the cost. Not everybody can just say:

Lol, supercar performance killing potential. Wow... I owned a 240 and never considered it a potential "supercar killer." It was just a car I could **** around with, hahaha. S2ks with an intake whoop on highly modded 240s, given that both are good drivers. And an S2k is not even a supercar! "Supercar killer potential..." hah!

Low pro doesn't equal stretched. Every Dubbed out car I've seen has perfectly square sidewalls. Stretching is mostly a lowrider/ drifter/ bosu/ VIP thing.

Are you telling me a 2500 pound s13 with 500 whp wouldn't be a supercar killer? Especially for under $20k?

Concerning dubs, I never said dubs, I said 15" wheels with stretched tires. Nobody said low pro meant stretched either....I've seen lowriders with stretched tires on itty bitty wheels most of my life, get over it.

Let's be cautious not to start slobbering on the Altar of Flushness.... It's really starting to get retarded.

One person's definition of what looks good is not the "gold standard" that everyone needs to comply with (unless you're filling out a "Membership Application" for some gay exclusive car fraternity that judges you based on your faux ballerness), LOL.

Reminds me of skanks with humongous glasses and stupid dogs in expensive purses - The pursuit of fashion is something best left to women, don'tcha think?

Set your car up the way you want, and F a chump if he don't like how it looks.

Props to Grant for showing us how it's done and why.

p.s. There's a supercharged NSX here in the Valley that USED to think he had a supercar... ...until he got pwned by some old guy in a boosted droptop 240.

A Mclaren F1 has 627 HP and 479 FT/LB at the crank, curb weight checks in at 2579 lbs.

If you think a 240sx with a ka24det/sr20det/rb25det couldn't be tuned to match if not beat the power to weight ratio of a Mclaren F1, I've got news for ya.

And even if you think, somehow, that a Mclaren F1 is not a worthy example, you can always throw a turbocharged 350 chevy in to blow away anything else manufactured at a factory.

+1 power isn't everything. Some car's suspension tuning stock is better than some 240s with fully tuned suspension. Haha. It's a fun car, but no supercar killer. Anyways, to stay on top, flushness is awesome.
