no, Andrew Sullivan has stated himself he is conservative. go look at his blog if you don't believe me. He would have voted for Bush, but he thought he was incompetent on the Iraq war. And the gay issue bothered him a bit too.

Well, you nice folks don't seem to get the message that this thread is for coherent, intelligent political debate, mostly pertaining to the election (hence the title of the thread). I move to have this closed (not deleted) before it gets worse.

I think it's funny how liberals are only pissed at Bush and his administration but conservatives feel the need to hate all liberals in general. It makes me wonder where all the hatred is coming from. I am a moderate liberal. I have some conservative views but I have the overlying "Live and let live" mentality.
When I see comments about how the country is going down the drain due to liberals and all that crap, I get pretty infuriated. The country was founded by people who wanted to escape and find religious freedom (bare essence of it). They were being forced to convert or believe in something they didn't so they were either jailed or had to leave and they did. That's what the underlying principles of this country are... seperation between church and state and allow people to practice as they please. Sure, it came off to a rough start and there was a lot of hypocracy, but inevitably, the Constitution was drafted clearly defining the rights of citizens. The frst ammendment states that there should be a freedom of religion, of speech, and of the press. "Congress hsall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exorcise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech..." Conservatives are constantly fighting to have things that go against their biblical beliefs banned. Things that are perceived wrong such as g@y marriage and abortion.
So judging by my argument, it's the conservatives who are throwing this country down the craphole. We're the most powerful country in the world but it's a shame we can't even protect the rights of the underrepresented minorities in this country. That's all I have to say. I haven't come back to this thread in a while because there was just too much bickering and senseless arguing. I hope you conservatives really think about what you believe before you respond and start bashing on people for having liberal views.

Everyone likes to talk about the founding of America as if THEIR side best represents the founders. The truth is, they were a mix of christians and deists who were skeptical of cult-like state religion but not religion itself.
In addition, the constitution was originally drafted WITHOUT the bill of rights. It was added only as a compromise to ease the concerns of anti-federalists -- thats right, those who were skeptical of a large central government -- the polar opposite of neoconservatives and neoliberals.
