I removed little grommets and stuff that I was worried about, but you bake it at around 400 degrees, and the operating temperature of the engine is not too too much less than that. The sealant in it is RTV, and designed for high heat; you'll be fine.

Thats what i figured i just wanted to make sure that the plastic breather thing on the inside wouldnt melt. I assume those plates are riveted on anyway and not removable.

i didnt want to make an entire thread, but if i over tighten the nut on my steering wheels, would it make it harder to turn the steering wheel?

i took off my steering wheel and replaced it a while ago, today i took it off again because it was crooked, i think i may have over tightened the nut, just curious, didnt do it before today.

Steering wheel is supposed to be tight. It doesn't turn in the column; it's supposed to turn the steering rack under the engine. Did you do/add anything else when you were replacing the steering wheel?

i realize it turns the steering rack, but it seems a lot tougher to turn the wheel while driving, also it doesnt really want to seem to go back track back on center when coming out of a turn. i havent done anything else to it.

im sort of thinking i overtightened the nut on the splined shaft which is causing the bearings inside the column to bind up. if that makes sense.

The theory makes sense, but my steering wheel was bolted on so tight I needed a breaker bar to remove that bolt. Inspect it carefully, and make sure your new setup isn't rubbing on something. You can always loosen the bolt and see if that helps also.

so i was driving to my girlfriends house and i noticed my that my car started to randomly tug to the left. my steering wheel was straight and the car just pulled itself to the left while the steering wheel was still pointed straight.
also i noticed when i make a turn the wheel does not want to return to center, it only does it when turning left and when making a left turn the steering wheel feels spongy and slow, almost pulsing.
does that sound like it would be a tie rod problem?

thanks guys
i hate making threads for this kind of stuff

Have you checked for a fluid leak?

Did you hit anything recently? You might need an alignment.
The pulsing isn't good though...

no i havent hit anything, and so far i havent seen any evidence of a fluid leak. the power steering reservoir is still full. when i have a chance i will get the car up in the air and try to sort this out. i also noticed, when i had the car parked with the wheels pointed straight if i pushed with my foot on the back of the wheel it would move about 1/4 inch and clunk. thats why im thinking a tie rod end, but why is it not returning to center and pulsing when i turn the wheel?

this is really odd though, it just started when i put re-installed an aftermarket steering wheel (trying to get it on straight). other than that i have just been driving it to school and to work, not abusing anything. i will figure something out and post what i find hopefully in the next couple days.

thanks for the responses.

Well I definitely hope you get the problem sorted out. Definitely sounds like a coincidence with changing the wheel, that sucks. Hope you get this figured out. Inspect the p/s pulley wheel for problems too. I had similar issues years ago with a different car, turned out to be the pulley...

Good luck.

yeah its really odd, probably a coincidence doesn't make that much sense. luckily i have a back-up rig and tomorrow i have off so i can get it up in the air and check out whats going on.

Does it make any noises? Could you have somehow put the steering wheel on so that the steering shaft binds/rubs somewhere?

that was my first thought, that i overtightened the nut that holds the steering hub to the shaft. i thought i bound something up and thats why the steering felt really odd. i loosened it up a little, driving it was fine, just the steering was feeling really odd.

i left it at my girlfriends house, luckily i dont have far to drive home and i will wait until there is no traffic so i can go slow and reduce the risk of an accident. its really pretty hairy driving it. almost feels like its just going to swerve off the road.

You mentioned before that it clunked when you moved the tired... does the steering wheel move at all in that 1/4 inch?

Hey guys, I'm considering buying a kouki s14. Did the kouki come with four lug wheels? and One that i'm looking at has an automatic to manual transmission conversion. Is that safe to deal with?

The conversions are very simple, just make sure the reverse lamps work, the speed works, no check engine lights, and see if it will start without pushing the clutch.

some are 4 lug, some are 5 depends on trim level

Alright. Is it good or bad if it starts with out pushing the clutch?

that means the neutral position switch has been jumped to itself so the car will start. its not bad, i have been running mine like that for a couple years, just make sure when you start it have it in neutral or, if in gear have the clutch pushed in.
