Motor envy much?

Oh, and we still have less than $3k in this project as of now, that includes the cost of the car, motor, internals, transmission, etc. Sometimes, if you want power and price, you have to go domestic. Its sad, but true. For instance, have you ever gone on ebay and looked for racing parts for chevy motors used in circle track cars and nascar/imca pull-off stuff? You can get a 3 plate clutch for a couple hundred bucks. Want a set of pistons? Forged for a couple hundred bucks... and you get twice as many.

It makes import parts look like they must be made out of gold or something.

so true i was talking about the same thing with my brother. his summit racing pistons for his 350 were $12 a piece. domestic parts are insanely cheap.

wicked sick yo! Sorry, I'm at a loss for words, so the boarder in me came out, what can I say but, DAMN!

Oh yeah, that great stuff has to go... I thought I'd be a cool guy and try that, but wait till you see what happens when your car gets hot.... I hop you don't have a nice driveway. Get it out of there and buy some two part foam epoxy. It has a much higher density and actually strengthens the torsional rigidity.

To each of his own demise but personally i would've dropped it in a 510 or a datsun truck .imo Better hp weight ratio since you want cheap big power . i have to listen to all the red neck v8 and ignorance of them saying a 4 banger cant have that much hp and it cant run a 13.5 in the 1/4 with 250hp even though i can prove it it aint real so i kinda get sick of haring the whole v8 thing .I apologize this is going to be a neat thread and ill watch it as it goes along .No hard fealings?

Do work son!

Head gaskets... followed by

Heads!

Engine in the car and the mounts I made... they are sturdy 1/4" steel plate welded to the stock motor mounts, the cross member, and the frame itself. It took me all of 25 minutes to get the motor squared up, cut out the mounts on some cardboard, then to steel, then weld them in. The mounting location is that close to the stock location. Not only that, but with FWD oil pan, everything clears! I only had to cut a small sliver off the cross member to give ample clearance to the pan. On top of this, the transmission fits perfectly in the tunnel and there is room for all the hoses, brake booster stuff, and everything else we'll need to get it running!

Look how close the TR3650 mount is to the stock trans cross member mount is. I just have to go pull one from the junkyard and cut it up and weld it back together to get this part done.

Q45 rear sub-frame! Got it from pull-a-part in an olympic record time of 30 minutes to remove (difficult without air tools... breaker bar and cheater pipe to the rescue!). Yeah, they were closing so we were in a hurry.

Notched subframe, needs to be cleaned up with the grinder.

Close up of rack clearance, note how nicely the PS lines tuck under the transmission/motor.

Plenty of room for headers.

Firewall clearance... everything looks good! Head coolant lines match up nicely with the heater core lines, another bonus!

The only issue is hood clearance. The hood would fit without the bracing structure, it barely hits the valve covers when closed. An aftermarket hood with some kind of bulge would definitely help here.

The sway bar needs re-positioning, but that's no biggie.

Very nice update. Also, on the topic of cheap domestic parts, it depends which motor you have. My cobra just hydro-locked last weekend on the way back to school. Rebuild kits from Summit (rods, pistons, rings, etc.) start at around $1800. So not all domestics are cheap. I wish I could rebuild my motor for pennies on the dollar, but unless I'm missing something, I'm kinda SOL. I need to research your motor...

Upon a quick glance, it seems that our motors are nearly identical. Is yours a 4.6? Where did you get your internals? How cheap is all of that if I don't get the balanced crank to go with it? Sorry for the questions, but I'm pretty down on my luck and need to get my car back up and running (oil on 3 plugs after locking ) Thanks for any info you can give me.
