okay, okay, one more try. From a "marketing" point of view. Offering more options for the same car means opening up more assembly lines for that same car, hiring more workers for that same car, hiring more management for that same car, and that leads to overall cost going up for that same car. Putting that car into a whole other bracket of competition. If what you're saying is the case, why don't all car manufacturers offer every single option on every single car that they make. It's not profitable.

Having a TT AWD 350Z as you said would put the 350Z into competition with the Skyline. There's a reason why car manufacturers put out the type of cars they put out. In the car selling world. Every car is put into a certain category and they compete with other car manufacturers in that category. You don't compete with yourself in the same category. Why? Because of profits.

[QUOTE=Soravia]Power - Add in about $8K for V6 from 350Z. Not as good on handling but the car will make power to beat any Honda or Mitsubishi or Mustang.Handling - Add in $6K Sport package, Brakes and Suspension. There won't be power but great for staying on the road. Honda S2000 would be the target.AWD - Add in $4K for traction FWD cars have. No one will be complaining how they can't drive the car in the north. This is NOT the AWD GT-R has, more like from the Skyline Sedans.Inline-4 Turbo - Add in $2K for extra 70 Horses. Not a bad thing for rushing down the highway.Aero Kits - Add in $2K for nothing but looks. They don't help but a lot of people pay money for just that.Three different fronts and bodies for people who want open top or hatch to hold cargo. It's just a few extra body panels to design. Scion xA, xB, xD had more things to design.

[QUOTE]

Again let me emphasize how this works. You can't just go order a car like you order a Big Mac. You can't just say you want a S16 with a side TT V6, AWD. Cars are manufactured on an assembly line. Car manufacturers calculates how many S16's they'll sell, then they calculate how many S16 TT V6 AWD they're going to sell, then they calculate how many S16 plushy interior they're going to sell, and that's when they decide to roll those amount of cars off the assembly lines.

More options and your options are pretty extreme, means the cost of overhead is going to go up and price for the car is going to go up. That's why no car manufacturers out there has every kind of option for their cars. It's not a big mac with extra sauce and supersized, it's car production.

From the other side of the glass. Because all the chassis, wiring and basics parts are the same, the cars are easier to manufacture. Just like how S13 Verts were final assembled in US. The base car can be made in Japan and final can be made in US according to buyer's choice.Because the car will compete in all the lower price segments for single driver market, (You don't see the entire family riding the Lan-EVO) the actual cost to produce each separate market segment will be lower. All that comes down to is a matter of putting in different parts. This is very similar to how GM sells their cars with different name and body panels and badges in different world markets. Only this time around it's more than body panels. It's the insides that matters.

Your Big-Mac analogy is pretty good representation of how my idea is like. I guess I see things different being a computer tech. Current car models look like Apple PCs to me and I want them to make closer to Custom PC models. Dell would be a good model but they put too much restriction on choice.

Except a computer is small and doesnt require much modification to fit different parts. While a car does, a I-4's motor mounts won't be in the same spot as a V6's. Also for S13 verts, Nissan had a preset number of them that they wanted made and that's how many were made. Somebody didn't walk into a dealership and ask for an S13 vert, then that contacted Nissan and told them to make this customer one.

I've actually emailed this thread to Nissan North America, to show the interest level.

However...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for another s-chassis and feel there is a market for it.

One of the concerns I see is that a large majority of the demographics consisting of current s-chassis are not in a financial situation where they can purchase a brand new car. I am sure this is something they are looking at. It's about if a car becomes available, will it actually sell and well enough to justify production.

If you look at the last years numbers from the S14, the sales were very poor. This is one part of the battle.

Honestly, I'd just be happy with a $20K RWD nissan, power nothing. A radio/AC, manual transmission. thats it, none of this other fluff. The extent of "options" should be similar to the Scion concept. You get a stripped down version of a base model, then the dealership can add a select few items you choose. No need for V6, or TT, or even Turbo at all. Just not a truck motor this time around. With the lack of available accesories, the car would be lightweight. With modern engine technology, it would be relatively quick too...

Lol...Sorvia you realise your list of options would bring the car from $15k to $28k? Thats almsot doubling the price. Not to mention, the TT-V6 that you want in your $15k base S16...well, considering its a newly designed engine, will probally cost $15k to purchase in a crate.

I mean, realistically your idea for all these options is like asking chevy to make a new Cavalier, with options for Escalade-esque interior, and an LS7 from the factory. Its just silly overall.

If an S-chassis comes back, it will either be nothing like the S-chassis of old...Basically the Altima Coupe. Or, it will be a cheap, no frills, Coupe. Probally a convertible, maybe with a hardtop, non convertible variant, that will be aimed at the Solstice/Sky, Miata, crowd.

V6-TT in a new S-chassis...thats like an M5 V-10 in a mini from the factory

Not to mention verts were alot more expensive that regular 240s.

The production costs for this car would be astronimocal, why can't you accept that? There would be such an incredible amount of R&D required for this car production costs would go out of contorl. Nissan would be able to more cheaply produce a new S chassis more cheaply and viably if there were fewer options.

Too lazy to read the whole thread but heres what I think: Nissan should come out with a "scion" brand of thier own. Call it something like orion hahaha!

But that would be pretty bad ***! Think about a whole new line compromised of 2 cars. 1 AWD form of an XB and a RWD form of a TC.

That would be sick and all but Nissan might be called "Imitators" hahaha!

When S-14 sales were poor, Honda was the one making sales with their Civics. I don't even know why people got into Civics in the first place.

Gentlemen I've been reading this thread and I have to say, I'm with you. I don't think that nissan should come out with a new S-chassis, I think they should stick with the old Chassis desgin ( With new tech) and make the body HOT/SEX! The car should come with two body styles PERIOD! Coupe and Hatch back. Three diffrent packages:1. BASE: RWD, NA 4 BANGER 180-200HP $16-20,000.2. SE/SPORT: RWD/AWD, SIDE SKIRTS,FRONT LIP, REAR VALENCES,WING, 4 Banger TURBO, Suspension AND GREAT INTERIOR $25-30,000. 3. GT-SPORT: AWD, BODY PACKAGE, TT 4 BANGER, SUSPENSION AND GREAT INTERIOR OPTIONS 30-35,000.I think if they did this the market would explode. Nissan should make a new off shoot company and pump these cars like toyota does the TC.

i think this idea would be more reasonable, and maybe even feasible. not so sure about the TT on the gt-sport, but this seems like the better idea.

I know the reason S14 didn't sell. They didn't have power, cost more than S13 and looks ugly as hell on Zenki.

I have a more complete description. Taking account of all the trends and needs in the market today.

As for the 350Z, just bump it up one level with better interior and Super Charged VQ35HR that can rev higher than current limit. (That's what HR means)

^You just keep getting more and more rediculous. What you just stated is a whole new LINE of cars. Sound deadening as an option? Are you nuts? Pop up headlights are a dinosaur. Also, the S14 didnt sell because of the market in the late 90s. That was when the SUV trend started, plus the weak Yen.

Somebody had to cut the cost on the bottom one. I meant really good sound deadening. Not NO sound deadening. S13 and S14 had cheap stuff. Infinity G35 has good stuff.

Pop-up can look sexy if you put it in sleepy-eye with correct cut. Not if you make it look like a Miata.

soravia, get over your fanboy dreams. its never going to happen. ever. if nissan ever does decide to do an entry level rwd coupe again, feature, spec, power, all of that would be to the tune of what the usdm s chasis was like. there is no room in the nissan lineup for a new s-chasis, and it wont be. the gt-r is nissans corvette, and the 350z is the camaro. in modern day car production, there is usually 1 or 2 sports cars in the lineup.

sure in the 90s nissan had the s chasis, the z cars, and the skylines all around the same time, but in todays automotive market, that would not happen. that is why nissan makes two sports cars, and two sports cars only.

get over it. stop dreaming. demand for the product, and profit, are the only things that matter. there is neither of these things for an s-chasis revival.

gt-r is recognized world wide. it is practically the "supercar" of the import world. thanks to video games, option video's and the likes, are what made these cars so desirable. nissan made the new gt-r, becuase there was a demand for the gt-r.

the z and the gt-r are nissans sports cars. they were there before the s-chasis, and after the s-chasis. sure the s-chasis had a great run, but ultimatly due to poor sales the line was cut, and it will not return.

Popups on a f*cking 2008 car?

You have got to be kidding me.

Maybe you should package the car with parachute pants and cassette tapes.

A new S-chassis will steal sales from other Nissan models. Seriously, its not happening.

it wouldnt "steal sales" from other Nissan models. Much more reasonably, no one would want to buy it and it would be a complete waste of money on Nissan's part.

there are some HIGH HOPES in this thread, just suck it up and accept that we're all driving a part of history. S-chassis production is over.

--> I dont know if someone brought it up earlier on this thread or not (didnt feel like reading a lot), but if you follow the car news closely, is been said that Carlos had an ACE under his sleeve and shortly after the release of the GTR he was having a big surprise, add this to the fact that Nissan is currently testing a new car in a form of a shorter wheel base 350 Z with undisclosed power, engine or transmission, that right there should give you a hint.... lets just hope that Nissan delivers a answer to our prayers. in the mid time SAVE MONEY bishez

I agree with most that you have to say except for the, "....no room in the nissan lineup for a new s-chassis..." There is room and it'll fall right in between the 350Z and the Sentra SE-R. Here's my guess for a marketable entry level rwd sport coupe.

QR25(possibly Turbo)220-230hp 0-60 in about 6 seconds1/4 mile times of about 14.7ishPriced from 19k-25k

*Notice how it's performs better than a SE-R, but not on par with the 350Z.

That's the whole point I've been saying. the NEW S16 cannot replace 350z even if it has the same engine. Bucause the Chassis is cheaper, smaller and not as high-quality on the setup. It can have same interior as Infinity, but it cannot replace the Infunity because it doesn't have the same chassis. (too small, no other feature)

SE-R is just crap, as much crap as Honda Civic Si is. They just have looks and stickers. There's nothing performance about a FWD sedan.

What we can do is write up a rough set of features we'd like for the new feature. Print it out. Send them to one location. Put the letters in a box and send it to Nissan CEO.

Hopefully he'll hear a word about it and look into the design teams to give a few extra features than just a "4 Banger Turbo RWD" The reason S13 was so popular was because it had more options and design than any S chassis that followed, except for the 5-lug wheels.

Because if the new 4 Banger RWD coupe doesn't have these features, Hyundai Coupe and Honda CR-Z will eat it alive.

Dude, maybe you didnt notice, but the S13 sales in America werent that great. They only sold just over 200,000 of them. I also don't understand your ridiculousness about the infiniti interior. If that was the case Nissan would market it as an Infinity and mark it up for more profit. Profit is sorta important to Nissan.

Soravia, Stick to Computers. Your Car Model/Marketing ideas are like Cheech and Chong's "Nice dreams".. because I have no clue what your smoking.

Nissan has R&D teams for this kind of thing, and realistically don't you think they notice the shoot up of our cars popularity and resale? they know about it trust me and They'll make something, just be patient. or start photochoping pictures and making models to show Nissan HQ your ideas are serious.

sorry, Nissan has people who's job is to perform market analysis and they are pretty accurate when it comes to determining what will make money and what won't. If these ludicrous ideas for an s16 could make money, they would of already gone down that path.

although, i would not be surprised if in a few years we see a Nissan that is styled similar to an old (70s) Z car or the 350z being offered in a 2+2.

and you do realize that in 98 they only sold 2178 240sx in the united states right? they would be stupid to bring that back.

Not to mention great interior, and outer design, better warranty and craftmanship, better aero, better balance, etc. More power doesn't make better car or faster car. I've been told about it by people who drove the Twin-Turbo Ford GT. It had power but not controlled and hard to use.

But for people who only cares about 0-60 and not really packing $80K for GT-R, the cheaper S16 will win over Ford Mustang Bullitt or Corvett.

This is how the OPTIONS can make S16 everyone favorite. They can have options they want without paying for other things they can't afford. It'll never be a Porche Turbo or a BMW M3, but in some aspects it'll be able to keep up with them.
The idea of a twin turbo gt is not to be controllable its just to be fun, fast, and uncontrollable. Any car with that amount of power is not going to be easy to control.
