I learned by trying stuff and making things work with nothing when I was a kid. Reusing intake gaskets on chevy v-8's. Using permetex gasket sealer on carbs. My buddy used indian head gasket sealer on everything. We even found all the roller bearings except for 2 when we dropped the driveshaft in his duster. It was a pain finding all the u-joint roller bearings on brick streets. There is something to be learned from everybodyTrumpkin wrote:You know, I love my Q. Oh well, I guess now that folks can actually afford one this is what we get.

Well i don't like giving up but if it sounds that hard maybe make me mad and annoyed but let me enjoy that part.Q45tech wrote:Removing any part is the easy part! Restoring things to oem working condition is another matter.
For years from 1997 thru 2004 we used to get a lot of Q's with the trunks full of engine parts..............where the mechanic just gave up in the middle of the job.
Perhaps, but that doesn't change the fact that they are very sophisticated engines compared to OHV V8 and lawnmower engines, where one should be learning.mxr662 wrote: Old Q45's seem in the price range for learning
Lawnmower engines are where you should be learning.Like i said we are all different and learn different.I suggest stop posting useless posts that tell people what they cant or can do or what they'll end up doing. You messed up on yours your fault if you haven't congrats.I've noticed not one topic of yours are about repairing your own car.Hmmmmm......maxnix wrote:Perhaps, but that doesn't change the fact that they are very sophisticated engines compared to OHV V8 and lawnmower engines, where one should be learning.
The price makes them available to the great unwashed masses, unfortunately.
Mike,paul,Q451990 are the only ones guiding and supporting while BLACKonBLACK is following me like a shadow well uploading pics as i type.Trumpkin wrote:Hey, my hats off to you for trying, excuse me for being mean. Is that a gaping hole in the hose between the left and right bank? If so, it would be a wonder if it hasn't run hot at some point... wow.unknown007 wrote:
edit:This car looks like it's been ran hott before no?
That's alot of hoses. If i had the money i'd do it but just replacing the ones needed for now.I know it's best to do now so i don't go down there again but i dunno. Thanks for the link.maxnix wrote:There are a ton of previous posts on parts and techniques on servicing the under plenum area for those who care to do their best.

Well i'll see how much the pricing is and call joe.If it fits my budget which i have very tight then i'll get them. Will check everything and update pics saturday morning.I was gonna take them to school to put the plenum and runners in the parts washer. Then maybe bead blast it?Q451990 wrote:

My next step would be to go to Wal Mart and buy a case or two of brake parts cleaner to clean up the plenum, runners (stuff them with paper towels before cleaning to keep from filling them with cleaner), throttle body, etc. I think I went through 20-25 cans...
Then it's time to call Joe for every hose under there. Might want to check your knock sensors for cracking, and replace it's harness. I would bet a cold one that it's showing corrosion, especially after sitting in coolant for that long.
