Hey if it's all done right before the post count reaches 1,000 on this thread, we'll buy him a tank of gas!

So far....so good. The finish is in the details.

Alot of gibberish but you Oregon Trailed this Plenum Job 4 me! I just get stuck on the hoses and getting everything right but I have the confidence! So what's next?

That's my job to be somewhat negative and neutral and PROTECT the FORUM from the likes of so many characters [who come and go] [and eventually get banned because they were not slapped down early] that HISTORY HAS SHOWN Destroy FORUMS and sites like this one.

Seen too many good useful educational sites fizzle into near nothingness from lack of rigorous enforcement.

I really don't understand ish you saying but you tryna insult me? Seriously I'm not a pro but ish got check out the techs here they all say your better off doing it alone. So before you come here saying this and that why not call all the Inifiniti techs around my area and tell me what they tell you.

Hey unknown007,

I enjoyed this thread and have been reading it seeing what would happen with you and your car. It makes me happy to see that you didn't let other people's negativity discourage you, especially being your age and living in Antioch. I mention that because I have family in Pittsburg CA and it's not exactly the easiest area for young people to do positive things with their time.

I guess what I'm saying is I think your thread added something good to this forum, and good job sir.

Back to the Plenum.Neck filler cap came off and coolant flew everywhere after a 10mile drive. Oh well I'll wait til this friday and start taking it apart.Had to go down there anyways to recheck my KS.It'll be a pain but fun. Will also lower my car this week most likely.

I'm having issues with the idling too.REAL BAD.Idles 1k+ and also when i tap the gas it drops quickly then comes back up. This is so weird.

Only 711 posts left to get it right!

Just keep plugging. Read the previous posts and the FSM as education is knowledge cheaply gained over experience.

May be able to adjust IAC for idle? You can probably re-use intake gaskets as they are doughnuts on upper and metal on lower. Your call, I would. I have a story for you about the coolant.

When I was your age I had a 70 Chevelle and was always in a rush and super eager to wrench, but by 17 I had PLENTY of working experience and should have known better... Anyway, I had to change a leaky heater hose and was in a stupid hurry so I yanked the hose while the enigine was hot. Needless to say I was drenched in hot coolant, which is only second in grossness to diff fluid. Slimy, grody. Ick. Haha. Just a little encouragement.

I've seen super good, experiened mechanics screw up huge on a bad day. One brake tech of 30+ years forgot to tighten lugs on 1 wheel and that wheel blasted off at 30mph on his test drive. One of the best suspension techs out there, very thorough. Just had a bad day man. Moral-s*** happens. I will make mistakes, everyone will. You'll be fine if you stay calm and keep your blood cool. Don't get in a rush. You've done it once so it's easy now.

Ha well reason why I'm waiting til friday is cause spring break starts next week.I'll have it done in two days.Coolant just got into one triangle that's it. The runners aren't gonna come off this time.Just gonna clean them check my KS why they aren't working and using a vacum to suck up all the coolant.Easy huh?Sounds like it?Is it we'll see. What sucks is I spent from 11am to 5pm cleaned the car very nice and clean including engine bay then this happens.Ah live and learn I suppose.I thought it was a hose that's why i was like Y*&$^$%^*^#(!!! but thank god it wasn't.Well will have pictures up soon.Coolant ended up burning off engine last night when I drove back at 2:30am and was very sleep but I kept checking the Temp gauge.

I've tried the IAC sometimes it makes the car fire up then the rev drops to 300RPM then back up to 1.5k-1kRPM.Any idea?My teacher blew into the IAC with the screw all the way in and air went through as if it was not screwed all the way in.Maybe the rubber seal that's worn out?

Also need a new neck filler cap a cheap used one is better then what I have right now anyone?free?

Went down stairs to see the difference between the Z32 Strut that I have and the Q.Turned on the car to turn the wheel and the car revved at 1500RPM.When you screw the IAC screw in it's suppose to drop the ilde.It did nothing.I smelt the coolant on the block which is the first triangle closest to the front bumper which is filled.Im started to double think of having the car anymore.I can't find a vaccuum leak, the IAC wont do anything, and the freaking ticking is annoying me too much.I just can't wait to get in there again clean it,recheck connections, and hopefully everything gets back to normal. My cousin's 07 Camry ticks to so I guess it's normal?

Well I'm tossing the suspension on regardless,I may not have another time to do it since I'm graduating. This sucks.I need a job but no one hires me.Maybe it's saying to graduate first then get a job. Im so bummed well will keep you guys posted starting monday.

Let me ask you this...was your car "better off/run better" before the plenum clean? What did you gain from this plenum clean? Did you do it so you could be part of the "elite" who have done this? From what I've read, you have more issues now than you did before the clean. Not being rude, I just really want to know because I know for sure that I'm not touching my plenum after reading this thread.

I can't speak for the 99 Q but it's easy to misinterpret this as a really rough job. It's really not a big deal, it's just frustrating especially for those who are first timers or in a rush. Don't let yourself be scared off. As long as you take your time and have people to call when you're stuck you'll be ok. Many pro-Qers here to help if you can weed through the occasional disparaging remark or sarcastic comment.

True, very true but I know that is something that I can't/won't do on my car because I don't have the time to. My car runs great at almost 200k so I don't won't to take the plenum off to clean and have more issues coming afterwards. After reading Andy's post awhile back, he said that the didn't notice anything different after the cleaning.

I was wondering in the OP'ster situation; did the car drive great before he decided to do this or did he read one too many of Maxnix posts and he decided to jump and do this job???

If you read the begining I jumped on this to save 1k from labor. My coolant hose blew up.Look back at the pics.I did notice somewhat a difference. It ran harder and faster. Here let me break it down from when I had it until now.

(before)The car use to run fine, everything worked, idling was perfect,no misfire/back firing, ticking was faint or maybe I never paid attention. One day I crank the car on and thats when the car went,"vrooommmmmbubububbuubababammmm POP bubbubu POP."I revved it and it went away.Oh yeah my spark plugs were also changed and my valve cover gasket was redone, but the first pop was before I touched the engine. Then I found out I had 2 injectors out and my KS did work until the coolant hose burst. Then all the sudden I had the idling problem.I never found out what it was I adjusted the IAC and it did nothing, cleaned the MAF sensor with Mike and the connector,Nothing.Going up a steep hill at high RPMs was good until I came to a stop one day and I thought it was my Tension rod or something.Drove around thinking it was that all morning until I just went to school.Found out info on the lifter and I figured it was that.

(after)As I did the plenum job I cleaned everything and the car ran fine.I also had to custom make a hose since I accidentally cut one.The IAC was still tweaking out.The idle was way too high so I'm gonna replace that soon.It sounded like I had a vaccuum leak but til now I can't find it.My radiator cracked after and I replaced it which is better. My neck filler cap flew off, dunno how,but if anybody out there has an extra neck filler cap it'd be great if I can have it or buy it off you cause I got the wrong one.In conclusion to this date I have coolant on my block due to the cap comping undone.I'm gonna go down there this friday since I have spring break and check everything little thing. Will get back to you then.

By the way I wasn't in no hurry but in the end I had to be since my parents started nagging. Well I dunno if it made any sense but yes I did feel a difference and also noticed that some problems I tried fixing needed replacing not tweaking. My opinion is it'd happen to any car so we're not the only ones.I also finally realized the ticking sound which is loud and need to find that out.Well once again I'll keep you posted as always.

NightRider just make sure you have people's numbers that you know can help you out.If they dunno much about it atleast then can search it up as you work and guide you.Trust me someone will help I had to bug Wes a couple times too and I bug Paul a lot.I also call Mike for help sometimes, hopefully we can work on my car or have a meet and all Norcal Nico members help me.

I just need Jesda number to bug him too.

-Berner (Sho )

p.s.NightRider don't be scared,it's a car and no matter what you do wrong,as long as it's not something that kills the engine, you'll be fine.

Use my pics and this thread for help.I think you'll be fine.
