Post

Well I never really posted my hatch here so I decided to make a thread. My name is Thomas and I'm a senior. I saved up for 2 months working at Safeway, aka Slaveway, and bought my very first car.

Here is what it looked like when I first bought it.

It already came with some eBay front and rear strut bars, a RS*R exmag exhaust, and some KYB struts.

My uncle has a body shop so I kinda got the hook up; a resto and paint job.

Bought myself a chuki bumper. Wasn't really a fan of the piggy.

This was the semi final product. The paint is Ultra Red, btw.

Since then I haven't done much mostly because my job had cut my hours from 20+ to 4-8 a week. I was only getting about $20 dollar paychecks (weekly).

But what I got done:

-Replace alternator & battery-Replace clutch with an exedy oem replacement kit-tints-headunit lol

and thats about it

My plan for the summer was to buy a dohc ka and boost it but turns out the KA I bought was a POS, so I decided to scrap those plans.

As you can see above, I almost had everything I needed to run the dohc stock for a bit. When I tested the engine for compression and leaks, I got some pretty bad results.

Now that I work at Sears, my plan now for the car is to go SR. I would have rebuilt the KA but I don't have the skills or funds to do it. lol

So far, with the help of "FlohtingPoint", I got the KA out. It was my first engine removal ever and without his help, I wouldn't have accomplished s***.

Right now I have saved up about half of what I need to get myself a SR from Elite JDM in Philly. I should have the rest of the money in about 3 weeks.

I will keep updated and I wont disappear like others. haha

Here are some pics of the car before I removed the KA.

I bought some bumper grills but apparently I have nowhere to screw them on my bumper.

All comments, good or bad, are welcome. NICO has taught me A LOT about 240's and they are just so much fun.

Sorry for all the text, but hey, at least its legible.

that's just on the body, not on the trim piece (you can sort of see it in the later pics where it's black) . but yeah i don't like those trim pieces being painted the same color of the car. imo should have went with a black roof too while you were at it but it still looks good with the fresh red.

great start so far

I feel the same way. I was in FL when my dad picked up the car and when I saw a picture I was like "wtf. isn't it supposed to be black?" lol. I did want a two tone but I guess my uncle was being stingy with the paint. lol But now I'm completely used to it and I guess it grew on me.

Ah I see, I bought mine in VA from the original owner. I remember I was going to buy a hatch with a S14 SR already swapped in it for I think it was $2500. The guy needed quick cash for school, and said he was going to hold for me over the weekend. Called him up Sunday evening and told me he sold it to someone else.

I'm actually glad that I bought this one instead now that I think about it. Now, I can rock a "Built not bought" sticker. lmao

Nice choice.

There has been a lot of talk about VQ swaps... Maybe that's a choice if you don't go SR.

Solid ride 'bro. I totally agree on changing the piggy to the chuki. In fact my '90 model was originally a piggy and I hated it. I was gonna change to a chuki bumper up until I decided to get the gp sports body kit. But yeah man all in all I like what you're doing to your ride. Keep it up!

Compared to a boosted KA, yeah, you'll hate the SR. Nissan didn't bring the SR here for a reason

nissan didn't use the sr not because it sucks but because it was needed for the way they were marketing the 240. and you can't compare a stock engine to a modified one

Thanks. Hm I've heard of VQ swaps but have really looked into it. Is it expensive?

thats exactly what I was thinking

I'm pretty sure KA-T is a lot more fun to drive than SR but the SR isn't a bad engine either. In the spring I plan to get a GT28R if I go SR, so that should be fun.

I was only joking Actually, the SR wasn't brought to america because of smog and all that other s*** But thats all beside the point. The SR is still a suck-a** motor, KA FOR LIFE

Yeah I have pics, but there not too pretty. I'll post them as soon as my sister gives me back my camera. I'm in the middle of finishing my ka-t setup so I'll post pics of that also. I might be up and running this week too much last night, haha
