Lolz.

I need to cover my antenna hole, too. :/

Note to self: DO NOT poke the rubber grommet... They will fall inside of the car.

safc 2 writeup

I used this manual tonight because I had some time to sit back and think about my idle and my safc2. Well I decided to redo the DECEL air settings because last night keegster and I went cruisin to the road where i crashed my old shell on just for reminiscent(s) sake. It was fun and I didnt' get too excite while taking the turns so it's all good. Car feels great, PBM is way more fun than the old susp. setup.

So anyway I was backfiring between shifts during these runs under boost so I had to redo my decel air settings because I really just half assed them before SO I re-did them and they were wayyy too high, like 6% and 15% lol. throttle point 1% NE1 (1000rpm) 2.2% and NE2 (2000rpm) 3.2%.

Car idles like a champ now I loves it. back down to 850 I wish i had figured this out sooner... think of all the gas i wasted idling at 1250 everywhere lol.

Just had to put this up hopefully it helps the Apexi SAFC2 guys! I'd like to get a wideband dyno chart just to set the fuel maps and tune it a bit more ya know? Knowledge is (horse)power.

EDIT: LOL, sorry Tom, forgot to mention, its good to see you are idling where you want it at, I know how much you were struggling to get it to the 850 range in the cold. Hmmmmm, Funny you mention the SAFCII and tuning, Keegan and I were chatting about that before you hung out with him. I may need one once I get this car running, btw you get my text about next saturday, you don't need to be there til after 11, gotta run Rocki out to philly to catch a train to MA, to pick up her supra.

Not much of an update cuz it's skewling and I have low income lol... But some insightful stuff for you rust belt folks:

First off I just wanted to post my new favorite towhook toy. Doug was right, and you should have seen the look on my face when joel and I found em at walmart! I've wanted one since I freakin put that modular sticker on the car back in may/june! Car was filthy in this pic.ROFL at my photoedit skills; I need a custom plate.

Ok so she was extremely dirty underneath because I hadn't gone to a car wash all fall that got the underbelly.. So before snow falls I took the rear tires off and jacked it up... and got EVERYTHING clean... Cinders and dirt and stupid horse poop were caked on the inner fenders.

Worst thing about lancaster pa is the poop piles every 300 feet, and the chewed up roads by the stupid horse shoes... Yes my alignment is ever so slight adjusted to compensate for those ruts. OH yeah, and it was prob around 42 degrees out.. my hands were stiff after 2 hrs of this meticulous s***e lol..

So I was lazy and busy this summer and didn't totally get around to prepping the frame for rust prevention... and because the frame is so nice still it would kill me not to do something.. so:I used tire wet shine by black magic to hopefully keep water and salt away from my metal for the coming months. I soaked the PBM coil threads in this stuff too... anywhere I could access. She's ready to go. Earlier this week I checked and it's still holding up strong and I drove through rain already. Did this mainly for the coils and the rocker areas but I also covered the fender roll area which traps dirt once you roll em. Called josh and Keegs for advice on what to use; took me forever to figure out if that was corrosive but I figured it wasn't. It was a petrolium solvent, not a distillate. I assume that means its oil based and because it's for TIRES, it won't harm rubber or undercoat. If it does, I'll be redoing it anyway.

It was clean and Cait's garage looks cool. You can see my shisty spray job that doesn't match in this pic. But hey, it's better than grey primer for now lul.

After 1.5days of clean car on lanc roads in the fall = dirty already. Probably also the proper fitting wheels fault, tire away from the body kicking up crap.

Not the prettiest paint by far yet but this car sure turns a lot of heads... My fav is when people look the other way to act like they aren't lookin hehe...

On a side note some douche in an a4 wanted to race me on the way back to Hbg... my car was loaded from thanksgiving luggage to take with me along with my bike and sk8board... and I was drinking a code red so I wasn't in the mood... when am I ever.. I don't like tickets or license revoking heh. Just made me mad inside because I had to let him get away and I know the blue space shuttle could have taken him down. Wheels a drop and window tint and a sideways straight brim hat, he's probably just like every dubber I know, no engine mods!

I still have to spray the front coils with the wheels off and oil them up for winter.

Sorry for the reading material, but maybe you're bored and need entertaining?

Joel, always up for some paint care tips. My car would love it haha..

Yeah josh but at least you have a garage 100% of the time. I have to be granted the garage hahah but it's not that hard to get it .

I wanted to add that I have to put my blue disco ball on there now because the cheapo tinsel string broke (that or some kid stole it lol). It's dark blue just like the car, this time keychain chain... haha towhook toys are sooo much fun... and badass? cuz no normal citizens do things like that..

Lol yeah. When the DMV gave me that plate I was like hah.. so I finally embraced the 'y' just for a good lul

Well it snowed...

And my beb takes fitment snow shots lol.

And we took a trip to Hburg to my Psu apartment because I left my wallet there for what would have been the weekend roadtrips w/ her are mad rad! haha

So it collected a lot of snow on the way because it's BOSS.

She got a close up of the pig boogers too. They would build up and fly at the windshield. Not lethal though.

And on sunday snow was still on my bumper so I took the sig picture when I parked opposing traffic (I never do it so I felt boss again breaking the law for 15 min) and took the pic. Yeah. I only went home to get Joel's rad hose/temp sensor. Mmmm that weekend was the best. Didn't go to the actual rents house til Sunday.

Sneaky ninja edit, me doin power over drifts on the oval. I did this to avoid hitting cars near the camera man, and partially cuz I fail? haha not bad for my 2nd or 3rd run drifting ever though. I spun out at the end and prob went into the grass but josh spared everyone from seeing it LOL.

Big thanks to a zilvi... member WhiteGLX came up from MD to meet me about halfway for mah new old part! I guess you could call this my car's xmas gift. He informed me it's a JDM koyo which is apparently different/better than the usdm KoyoRAD company? I had no idea but I chose a nicely used Koyo over a new Mishimoto because the price was right and it came with OE hoses/ OE cap.He also said he ran into coolant problems through the head gasket running a greddy cap... so he suggested not to run an aftermarket cap because it will not relieve pressure and breathe. I'm not sure what to do but I'll run the cap he included until I decide otherwise. It already cools a lot better than oem, why increase the pressure Ugh back to the white board hah..

Pimp the mexi-native american cargo blanket yo lol.

I'll clean it up before installing. Install pics in a few days Already have new Prestone coolant and distilled waterz.I'm going to feel so much better about my setup during track days now. Less worried about heat and possible overheating. Happeh boyyy

Damn, you guys in PA are having all the fun lol

Thats a great track you have out there, best I can come up with is a round about at the end of a tech. park road. It's a bit sketchy.... might as well wait til MA builds something suitable for drifting.

hmmm this is the first ive heard of aftermarket caps causing problems. i'd imagine a company like greddy woudl know how to make a rad cap seeing as the makes raiators as well, nonetheless, looks good. big improvement over the crossover hose

Alright it's pretty clear why more pressure in your radiator (higher bar rad caps) isn't worth it.Source: lol... this company sells the high pressure caps but isn't afraid to tell you why you don't need one! http://www.absoluteradiator.com/Radcap.htm Best line:"Engine modifications have increased the HP of the engine - creating more HP means creating more heat. We recommend increasing the heat dissipation capabilities of your cooling system to match the increase in heat generation. The best way to do this is install an All-Aluminum High Performance radiator, increasing the radiator cap pressure will not help dissipate additional heat. We recommend that you only use a cap with the pressure rating that your car was designed for."

Seeing as the OE hoses and gaskets are only designed for oe pressures, I won't be needing an expensive cap unless I want to overheat my engine and not know it... If you're increasing pressure to help stop your coolant from boiling over, you've already destroyed your engine if you boil over so there's no point.

The link is pretty long but it's worth the read guys. I'm not against running higher pressure in the cooling system, but it's not necessary so why do it.

Bumnah, i'm still going to use the dohc single electric fan wired up how I have it. It works great and only comes on when the temp sensor kicks it on.Wired by Mrgreeneyes of course.

Yah jeff it'll be less chances to fail with less hose clamps lol.

im running a 16psi cap (300zxTT equiv) on my mishimoto with new OEM hoses/clamps/waterpump.

how the genius f***ed up a head gasket via coolant pressure is beyond me. s***ty headgasket if you asked me.

anyways, run what you would like sir.

my KA has always defied death somehow so IDK. lol

carry on

i agree that it had to be something else besides a rad cap that caused a blown hg, and like me and tom were discussing last night, a larger rad has more volume, so if anything an aftermarket rad cap on it should balance out

Keegan, I ran a 300zx cap for a long time with no problems, so I'd have no problem running one again, in fact that's my ideal setup. Idk which one the cap i have now is but I will find out. 300zx cap is only 1.1bar or 16psi like you said. More than oem, but not overkill <3. 1.3bar is 19 psi... I still have oe heater core and hoses so yeah, I'd just like to stay away from that.As for the volume Jeff, we are right as far as more volume in the system but the 1.3 caps will still allow it to eventually build to be that high so idk if volume matters as much, still good to keep in mind.

You guys were prob right about the head gasket thing. I didn't ask him but maybe he didnt install correctly or maybe he used a cometic HG.

So yeah, long story short I still want a 300zx cap, but no more. Probably because I have had no negative experience with running one on stock coolant setup.

Well, I'm going to update for Tom, since I am the one who has the pictures. Well Tom started out started by washing the radiator down with some purple magic. LOL, he also flushed out the rad, and used some radiator flush stuff, which with the first pour, a huge glob of junk rolled into the rad, looked like a giant loogie.

So here's what Tom's setup looked like pre install, KA rad, with the home depot special crossover pipe. So Lame.....

So, Tom, his g/f and I started by removing the KA rad out. He had Cait remove the upper bolts, and I kinda just stood there and watched. So Tom drained the rad, and lots of junk came out. So after we removed the rad, we layed it beside the Koyo for a comparison....huge different for those who wanna know....

So, Tom took the rubber holders off the bottom of the KA rad, and put them on the bottom of the Koyo. This is so you nubs that have never installed one, know how to put it in place.

So, we ran into a snag with his catch can, it didnt fit so well beside the rad, so I took the turbo piping clamps and spun them around so that the catch can could fit snugly beside the rad. This thing fits sooo well, even better then mine. Also, Tom had me pull the CX racing sticker off the rad cap from his KA rad, and he found that its a 1.1 bar cap, so its like a Z32's, so he's happy. He really didnt get to test it out, other then letting the car idle for a little while. I'm sure I missed something, but Tom will definately fill this in the missing details. Here is what the final job brought, clean, subtle setup.
