I will be checkin' in on this write up and I'll be checkin' with you and how that turbo is treatin' you after you get it running.

$375 is a great price, no doubt. =)

In case anyone cares, my couplers are now officially in the garage.

But it's too dark/cold to go out and install the new IC piping, and my chip burner is a piece of **** and won't behave.

WOW, KATwo40sx, I am so impressed with everything that you're doing! I am planning on turboing my SOHC in the fall as a senior research/design project and I'm looking for good ideas and everything. I am wanting to custom fab most of the stuff b/c it will be cheaper. But I might also consider taking some good deals where I can get them, if only I found a similar manifold for the SOHC's that I could modify! And $375 for a t3/t40e is pretty amazing, my other thought on a new turbo would be with ams's one but that's like $300 more! And for the purpose that this initial setup is for, I'm not necessarily needing ams's turbo (but it would be nice if I could fit it in my budget)

Anyway, great write-up and I look forward to hearing the progress and seeing pictures and possibly even videos!

^^^ LOL Hell no! I've been outside laying in water under the car welding, cutting firewood in the rain...no more for me today.

Good news...just ordered a new chip burner from Ebay. LOL Hooray for $40 burners that work twice!

Should be here in about 2-3 days.

Arrow - Thanks for the compliments. The best advice I can give you is to plan, plan, plan, and then once you have it all down perfect, plan some more.

Then, get ready to throw wrenches when the plans don't work.

It's ok. I don't know how to 'chip' or 'tune' my own ECU let alone an eManage or AEM EMS. We can be noobs together man, I'll make us some 'Noobie" club cards.

I would love for someone to help me with the parts to get together to learn how to 'chip' or 'burn' my ECU. It's the smart-azz remarks that get us nowhere and not learning anything. No offense, daconkiftador, but it would be great if we could all help each other without flaming.

And KATwo40, if you feel like it, could you share what parts you use/need to chip and burn an ECU? I'm assuming you have a KA24DE, but if not, I would still like to learn what you use. I've searched all over the place and all I hear about is Willem burners but I have no idea what part numbers we need to buy the right one. And what number is on the chip we need.. I don't mind if noone wants to share their information, I understand it's rather difficult to do everything and people are a bit 'greedy'(can't think of a better word right now, sry) when it comes to their tunes and whatnot. I'm just asking what burner, and what chip we need to buy. And what software we need to start recalibrating the ECU.

....ok, I'm done.

if you're interested in learning more about tuning your own ECU, I'd suggest searching the forum. There is a lot of great info out there and IIRC hybridka.com has some good info on there too. I know that it's a lot of information and can be confusing, I've been sifting through it for over a year now - just seeing what others have done and what is required of it. Looking at new software that comes out and much more. I still don't know what route I'm going to take, but knowledge is power! And learning what your budget is going to be is also quite a key factor in it all...

And KAwo40sx, I plan on doing just that: plan, plan, plan, then plan some more... and of course throw some things or scrap many pieces of pipe as I try to fab up stuff myself... But one good thing is that I'm going to have access to a CNC mill and lathe so hopefully I can get some use out of them in fabricating flanges and other misc. stuff!

yeah.. i've been browsing around the hybridka.com site for awhile now, but havent learned much of anything..i know what is required to burn chips and all, but the i probably need FIRST-hand experience before i can do anything with ECU chipping.

I'm in the same boat myself. And YES YES YES I've searched this forum, I've searched MANY forums. hybridka.com and forum.bikirom.com . I know there aren't 'chips' persay for the KA24DE ECU, just a daughterboard you can plug chips into. I'm looking for real-time tuning, so the chipped daughterboard wont be an option I don't think. Unless I get an emulator. But the mega bikirom looks like what I'm gonna be using if they get the MAP crap figured out. Just trying to see if there are anymore people that would wanna help/share tuning theories. We can start another thread, or keep this one up towards the top while KATwo40 gets his project updated.

Hey, I've not had a chance to talk to you on AIM yet, but if that burner isn't gonna be needed, let me know. If you can talk me into making me think I can use it, I'll buy it from you.. lol

Yeah... I think he's just trying to get the thing up and going, especially since the turbo has a 1yr warranty.

No no no, not XSPower...they SUCK. It's TurboXS....very very different. It's a unit with Garrett internals.

I wouldn't put one of the XSPower units on my car. They blow apart and stuff (housings separate).

Also, car's runnin' great. I adjusted the injector latency and got rid of a little idle chug issue I had and it's fantastic. Turbo doesn't make any strange noises.

I'm finishing the dump tube and intake plumbing, then gotta head out for some 15-16psi tuning with the new maptrace system I got. Hopefully, I'll have it up to around 18psi by Saturday...at the strip.

I'm GLAD I was wrong. lol

I was wondering why someone with your experience/knowledge would be using a "XSPower" turbo, especially after all the horrow stories/proof

I think I'm just gonna pack it away and see how this burner does for a while. Even thought I got it to finally work, the red LED that indicates "programming" doesn't even turn on anymore. I smell a major failure in the future.

The good news: You can buy one on Ebay for about $30 and it comes with the cables, software and a chip puller (needed for the PLCC style chips).
