Okay so unfortunatley I can't see my springs at enough to fit the camera in there to take a picture... If I can get it on a jack you can see the 2 1/2 inches of spring that is left.

2 1/2 inches left!?!? That is dangerous...I only have one coil on the fronts cut off and two in the rear I believe. And with some new mounts welded in place to make it safe. Rides better than a car on coilovers.

When put up in the air and the wheel gap widens the springs don't touch at all. I can sit there and spin them around and lift them up. It's that bad. When we put it down we have to make sure it's all lined up. Then for the next few days or so the slightest turn sounds like grinding in the wheel well and I'm sure you can guess why. I can't wait to get working again so I don't look like I'm trying to pretend im on dukes of hazard when I'm on the highway.

Everytime I drive, I'm ancipating the moment where my car just fishtails cause it bounces on a turn or something.

Moral of the story: Cut springs are a bad idea.

Stupid ex boyfriend.

Now the ride fcukin sucks (i getting thrown into the roof of my car with the slightest bump), and sliding around is just violent. But hey, everywhere I go people are in awe at how awesome my car is, until they get to know it at least. I can only think that he wanted me dead or something.

Heh. Trust me, I'd have the coilovers and proper suspension if I could afford it.

If you're broke and daring then sure i guess but be aware of how unsafe they are.

I love it how the op said he can "control his car" and he understands "suspension dynamics" yet yesterday he was asking for a wreiteup on cutting springs lol. Its like 7 nuts to take off and the use of a cut of wheel. lmfao

"Not all of us can afford nice coilovers." Just because you can't afford them right away, doesn't mean you go an cut your springs...it's called being patient.

"man i bet every one of you have seen an s13 w/ cut springs and went wow.. that looks good. but i bet if you found out that they were in fact cut, youd have some snide *** comment to make"It may look good, but it probably rides like ****.

I'm staying tuned for pics of your car wrapped around a pole.

It is just hard to believe sometimes. Most girls say they like cars, but when you talk about them, they just get mad. Just like my girl. Plus we get excited when we find girls like u.

OP - Im not gonna get all angry and stuff and smash your idea. Nor am I going to tell you not to cut your springs. But you did say that you wanted to drift with your car. I do drift, and a huge part about getting your car to slide is having a stiff suspension. Stock, or cut stock springs will still have alot of body roll. That will not only make it hard to start a drift, but to link them as well. So stiffer is better. just sayin....

cutting your springs wont kill you your right your shock isnt going explode! into fire! and your going to die a firey hell no

but you will wear out your shock quicker and what (will) happen you'll have a leaky or blown shock which causes the whole bouncy feeling , and that leads to poor handling and i mean really poor

i'm a newbie on this forum, but not a newbie to cars or mechanics. but i'm wondering why it's so dangerous to cut springs. depending on how much you chop off, of course could be dangerous, but that depends on the amount you chop off. can someone explain to me why its so bad. i'm not endorsing or agreeing with anyone wanting to do it, just wondering why it's so bad. i've got an 82 chevy longbed with cut springs (equaled a 2 inch drop) and shocks meant for a 2 inch drop. i've had the truck like that for 3-4 years. i bought it that way, and it rides fine (once i put the correct length shocks on). it's my parts truck, so i don't drift or anything like that in it. i take it to the scrap yard or to the parts store. never been a problem, but i got on nico since i got my 240, and started reading this thread and thinking wow, maybe i need to get some new springs. but i would still like to know why it's so bad other than the "your gonna kill somebody" or "it's just bad emmkay". sorry for the long post, just wondering why it's deadly to cut your springs. thanks in advance, matt

i just got my 240sx a month ago with cut tien's in front and tien's in back not cut. its seriously dangerous my passenger strut is blown, all the oil is around the wheel well, every time the car hits a bump or dip it sounds like its ready to break. from my own experience dont do it or suffer terrible ride quality (bounces like a low-rider) and loud bangs.!!!

why would u cut springs when u can just heat them on the outsides to further compress the springs? its most likely way safer to vertically shrink them than to just chop away and hoping that nothing bad will happen..if ur guna cut some springs to drift on..use ur stocks instead of ruing a perfectly good pair of lowering springs..i say all this with stock ride height..so someone hook it up with some cheap/non ebday lowering springs?? ;D
