Says the guy who wants to cut his springs...

I agree, though. There's been a ton of bickering on here lately.

Thanks.

Yeah I could go lower... but it has way more downsides than it's worth to be aesthetically slick. I wouldn't be able to get into my garage, would have to retune the suspension, wouldn't have room for travel, etc.

The front lip I have is sitting on a shelf in my garage. Don't want to mess up the front bumper by snagging it on something.

I have cut springs but it was done before i knew what it ment. My ex was begging me to lower the car and being that I'm new to it all, his suggestion was the "safe" and cheap way to make the car look good. Little did I know all it was-was for looks. Now the ride fcukin sucks (i getting thrown into the roof of my car with the slightest bump), and sliding around is just violent. But hey, everywhere I go people are in awe at how awesome my car is, until they get to know it at least. I can only think that he wanted me dead or something.

Heh. Trust me, I'd have the coilovers and proper suspension if I could afford it.

If you're broke and daring then sure i guess but be aware of how unsafe they are.

****ty suspension usually isn't the issue if the driver drives like a human being. Crappy brakes is usually what will do you in.

Dude OP i think you made a large number of people mad with your lack of safe ideas. Think about the lil 15 year old who stumbled onto this thread and got a bright idea to cut his springs and NOW IS GOING TO GO DRIFT THE ROADS BECAUSE OF YOU GIVING SUCH BAD IDEAS!

It could happen.....

Oh ya and lil jimmy dies, also takes 2 more people with him. And their pet dog... and an innocent animal on the side of the road just trying to gather food for its family but is now not going to return home with the food because lil jimmy wanted to drift like the big boys and his cut springs did not cut it at 35 MPH around the exit ramp..... Yep all because of you!

Yeah, that's reading a little too far into i think. It's been stated it's a bad idea. And nowhere was there anything saying a pro of any kind. Just bad bad bad.

Just buy a set of lowering springs. I got a set of Eibach Pro-kits used for $145 shipped to Hawaii, about $95 unshipped price. Bought the front springs on eBay about 6 months ago, bought the rear set from a board member and got them yesterday. If you can find similar pricing you won't spend much over $100 with shipping.

Forget the driving safety reasons, don't cut the springs because its going to be a pain in the *** and dangerous to remove later. As it is the front springs don't have many coils and have a lot of preload. Even using 4 spring compressors and moving them around my Uncle couldn't compress it enough. We ended up having to use the wall compressor at a VW shop across the street from his garage. If you remove even one coil, that leaves the space between two coils, about 4 inches, to compress the spring. There will still be a huge about of preload left when you remove the hat and you'll probably hurt yourself.

The rears aren't as bad because they have more coils, but he is still going to borrow a table machine from a friend for tomorrow. Leave the stock springs alone and buy real lowering springs.

IBTL. This thread is worthless. If you get into an accident with cut springs and your insurance company finds out you will not be covered, and whoever you hit/ hits you, regardless of whether it is your fault or not will have a case against you. If this doesn't convince you not to cut your springs nothing will.

when i first changed my suspension i just bought $50 dropzone lowering springs and shipping to hawaii was like and extra $40 and even though they are not that quality they are still better then cutting stocks and just getting the springs off was a pain in the a$$ to say the least so just please don't cut them i mean look at the overall comments 9/10 people who have some car experience to say the least are all against it. If it were anything else in the world that this many people were against like if you asked "should i buy this kind of drink" and 9/10 people said no and the other 1 person said maybe chances are you wouldn't do it so just please just run stock spring for that 2 week period while you save your $100 and buy some drop spring off ebay. This is not a post hating on you for wanting cut springs this is just one fellow 240 owner talking to another

lol, what i dont get is how the op is too poor for cheap springs, but if his car gets totaled its no biggie cuz its his "beater fun wagon". i'd imagine a wrecked car woudl be more costly then springs

i do want to see pictures...if you need i'm going to be getting the stock s13 suspension from a friend for free. I was gonna clean them up and put some lowering springs on em (cuz i cant afford coilovers yet), but i could just drop the springs on my suspension now. Let me know.

the springs on my car were cut when i bought it, and driving for a 2 months like this just make me wonder who would want this ****. unsafe and all that stuff aside, your will hate it....bad......i do. almost cant stand driving period because of it. you look dumb, feel dumb its just not a good feeling. sure when its sitting in the parking lot it looks cool so low, but then you get in and make it lower. got a friend? even lower. believe me or not, ive scraped on a flat road before....more that once. save the time, money, and headache and just dont do it for your own sake
