many reasons to change your oil after a short time, when a freshly and properly assembled motor is ready for first start up almost every moving part will be covered in assembly lube, which the lube breaks down the composition of the oil when they mix, also in those first crucial miles of running/driving, all and any loose metal shavings from the build stuck in places in the casting and jackets come loose, and make it back to your pan and filter, also the break-in process shaves and smooths your rings and bearing, releasing more tiny metal debris. reading many motor building books, and talking with the couple machinist's i know, i've been highly reccomended to change the oil after first start-up to operating temp, and another change after aprox., 300 miles, and then 1000 miles, and then whatever you feel comfortable with after that. thats all up to the driving conditions you are exposed to and create with all that HP and TQ. hope this sheds some light on the oil change theroy.
