Car: trying to decide on one...

Post

I had to send my laptop off for repairs, so I haven't been able to update with pics.

The car is done with everything, mechanically. Right now it's at a local performance shop getting checked out. I just wanted to make sure everything looked good before I started driving it because this was my first turbo build.

I'll try to get some pics up soon.

I was at the shop today to get some pigtails for my corner lights and to see if they had an anchor for a gas tank strap. I saw a car that looked very familiar, but I didn't get a chance to confirm that it is yours. BTW, those rims look great, and if your going with silver for the outside of the car like you did the engine bay, the car will be bad a**.

As for my project, I am waiting on an anchor for a gas tank strap(thought I had two, but turns out I only have one), and some SS hose since the hard line for the water feed won't fit, and neither will the oil return. The center housing on my 2560r isn't clocked like the regular s15 turbo. On the plus side, those are the only things left to do to get my car up and running. I'm undecided if I just wanna stick the engine in now or wait till I get those lines in.

Well I was told that you can't use SAFC with 740's and I'm not really lookin to make any more than 350 right now.
I thought it was that the SAFC can't do over 50% fuel adjustment. 50% of 370 is 185, so the SAFC maxes around 555. If the 50% fuel adjustment is true and you're ecu is tunned for 550s, cant you use SAFC to bump to 825 (if you really wanted to). (550 * .50 = 275 275 + 550 = 825)

yeah that makes sense. Idk, I want to rebuild the head before I put 740's on, that would include new cams, springs, valves, retainers, greddy im, etc. So if I get tired of this amount of power I'll send the injectors back to DW for the upgrade. thanks for the info.

hey fsu, how was the dash install? I have a small crack and access to a new dash - just wondering how easy it is to accomplish, especially without destroying the new dash...

and by the way, what kind of gauge cluster is that?

If you want, I can install your dash for you for a small fee. Its not hard at all when you been doing it so many times.

And FSU, do you have any pictures of the engine out ready to go into the engine bay on every angle?

Actually, I didn't install a new dash... I just meant I chose that cluster to cover up the crack. The cluster is an Autometer WRX STI pod. It doesn't fit perfectly to the contour of the dash, but it looks good enough for me.

Installing a new dash isn't hard. It just takes a while. Just don't lose and screws and don't forget to plug all the wiring back in and make sure the vents are lined up right. Oh yeah be careful not to crack teh defroter vents, they are pretty brittly from being in the sun and crack easy.

I have a couple. What do yuo need to see specifically? I have a ton of pics saved of other sr's.

Probably the most I need to see is a straight shot on the side where the turbo is and also on the other side. I have to re- clock my turbo compressor. Basically I have all the stock sr parts except for ps bracket, piping, and hoses - just to give you an idea of what Im working with. The more pictures the better it will help me get mine in the car. Thanks.

thanks, we'll see about the cams. I want to see how fast the car is going to be like this. Like I said before, this is my first turbo car. I'd prefer not saying what shop the car is at until I get it back. I'm getting really paranoid about my car getting stolen having posted all this up on here. At least I'm the only one who knows about all the theft prevention stuff done to the car...

Did they call and tell you that? Last night I loaned them my z32 maf to see if that was the problem.

Yeah Im with you on that FSU. I deleted all most post and pictures of my car a week ago. Even though I doubt someone can steal my car without getting caught, you can never be too safe.5

dude.......you are completely out of your league it seems.

1. That animation on your sig has nothing to do with nico, cars, or this forum.

2. Why must you be so quick to jump down his throat about asking an innocent question.

3. People like you make forums threads go sour. Please say what you mean and dont say it mean.

4. If you want to be a SIG PIG then become an admin and then well see whats up.

5. For now.......PISS OFF

cheers!

oops I forgot to put big after stupid. I kind of dont regret it now since you made fun of my sig. Its not like your smile has anything to do with nico. Gtfo and Get over yourself.

luv2spedup: You too. Do you need to talk to me so that I can talk to you? Lol gtfo too and get over yourself.

Lol checked out your little car domain. Nice list: is that suppose to be a check off list when people jack stuff from your car? Sigh. Kids this days.

Please stop jacking my thread. Take it somewhere else.

I'm not a moderator but sig rules are there for a reason, it would be nice if you would respect the NICO community and follow the rules:

Sig Rules

UPDATE:

I went to pick the car up yesterday, but it was still misfiring a little at higher rpm's under load, so hopefully they can figure it out be next weekend.

That sucks, I'm willing to bet that the bad maf fouled your plugs. I installed the engine in my car today, and the new flywheel bolts will be here tomorrow so hopefully I'll be finished this weekend.

Actually he changed the plugs, but I don't know if that was before or after he put your MAF on.

btw your maf is still there, I'll probably be back next weekend and I can get it for you, if not I can get someone to take it to your house or something. I'm getting a reman one but it takes like a week to get it.

Don't worry about it, the guys at the shop know we know each other. Today they let me go over to your car and look at the boost lines so I could make sure I got them right on my car (I did). I got the dodge omni flywheel bolts to replace the 3 necked ones. Well 4 actually since I have to keep the thing balanced, so I should have the car together tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help.

UPDATE:

The problem was the BOV. I ran the car with a R2D2 BOV and it ran way better. It's pretty fast. I'm ordering the 11psi spring from Tial, and hopefully that will clear up the stuttering issues.

I need softer mounts, anyone ever try these?

Greg said those mounts he made cost $56. I ordered them. $70 is worth the time it would take me to make those and the peace of mind knowing they should be reliable coming from a real manufacturer. I'll do a review when I install them.
