Car: trying to decide on one...

Post

Well I bought this car with the redtop already installed. It was missing the turbo, injectors, and a few other random things.

I thought about getting a stock turbo and injectors and just getting the car running and spending money on cosmetic things, but then I started doing some research and decided that a mostly stock redtop would be too boring for me.

CAME WITH CAR:- XSPower FMIC w/ piping- Apexi GT Spec Exhaust- Test Pipe- Blitz DTT DCII- Spec Stage 2 Clutch- Tial BOV- ARP Head Studs- Cometic Head Gasket- Blitz Down pipe - Electric Fan- Koyo Radiator- Trunk-mounted battery

PICTURES:

PARTS ORDERED:- GT2871R .64 A/R- Taka Lines- Deatsch Werks 555cc- Greddy o2 housing- AEM Tru Boost EBC- AEM UEGO Wideband- Nismo FPR- Enthalpy Tune- Circuit Sports Oil Catch Can- SS Coolant Overflow Tank- Greddy Intake- Z32 MAF

What I've recieved so far.

Hopefully the turbo will come in tomorrow and I can start installing everything.

so when you got it, it wasn't running at all huh? I suspect you might want to set more cash aside for "uh oh's" as someone stopping a project midway through would usually raise an eyebrow of suspicion.

you will be pissed you bought 555cc injectors after you get the thing tuned. Those injecotrs top out around 350 crank. I wish I had bought 740s but I have the 555s as well.

Well I was told that you can't use SAFC with 740's and I'm not really lookin to make any more than 350 right now. If I ever plan on making more than 350 I'm prob gonna pull the motor and do a complete overhaul with forged internals and some serious headwork. This is my first turbo car and it will have at least twice what my last car had so I'm that will be enough for now... lol

Okay well not much more to update. I was trying to get all my parts in by last frinday, but for some reason I didn't get my turbo and intake until today (even though I was told Friday by Enjuku and 240sxmotoring). Kind of screwed me over because I needed to get the car running over the weekend so I could take it to school (FSU). Now I had to steal my dad's BMW for the week until I can go back home this friday and get everything installed.

Here are some more pics:

Okay, I've been reading through some old posts about oxygen sensors and I still have a question...

What o2 sensor should I use with the Greddy o2 housing? It can either use the skinny or fat type, but will the voltage readings be different if I use an o2 sensor from a different car? I know there are universal o2 sensors so I don't really see why this would be a problem...

So... redtop? blacktop? 300zx? S14?

if you have a redtop ECU use skinny o2

if you have a blacktop ECU use fat o2

The type of O2 sensor you use depends on the ECU you have.

Okay I got my turbo and everything and I have a potential problem.

When I clock the turbo... Where should the compressor outlet be pointing? I know normally it would come out the side at an upward angle, but I'm not seeing a way to make that work with the wg actuator that came with the turbo...

Is there any problem with having the outlet point straight down? Or do I need to make a custom bracket for the WG actuator?

You can go down with it you just have to make new piping for it and cut a hold in the side of the fender well towards the front of the car.

I figured out how to get the turbo clocked right, I just had to flip the wastegate actuator bracket around and extend the rod.

I installed the turbo, lines, elbow, injectors, fpr, TruBoost, UEGO and some other stuff.

Quick question about vacuum lines: My Blitz TT has the ability to be used as a Boost gauge, but I have the AEM gauge/controller also. Is it a bad idea to T off that vacuum line twice and use both boost guages? Or should I just leave the vac line on the TT disconnected?

I hope to have it running by the end of the day, might have some wiring questions later about the Z32 MAF... my harness is pretty messy.

Thanks in advance.

Also, can anyone post a pic of your intake side of your motor (redtop)?

I want to see how you have your wiring and fuel lines routed. My fuel lines are all cut for some reason and I can't find it in the FSM.

I'd recommend not to put a T in the boost line. I see it as this, brake booster gets it's own vac source, boost gauge and controllers should also have their own sources... T-ing into the line might change the readings but, it's entirely up to you, it's your car afterall... I see no point to have 2 boost readings. That's like having an A/F and exhaust temp gauge. You know the exhaust temp gauge is going to be more accurate, so why have the flashing lights? Good luck with the build man, I'm currently purchasing parts for my S14 swap, I can't wait...

Some pics from last weekend. All I have left to work on is fabbing up a hotpipe and intake. Then I have to finish the wiring for the wideband and EBC and mount the guages.

I know I need to change the gasket on the lower oil pan.

BUMP... and Where does the the fuel line that come out of the top of the Fuel filter go to?

Right now I have it going to the back of the fuel rail, but that doesn't look right according to the pic that Gramentz posted.

His goes to a hard line towards the front of the engine... and my car does not have that line.

Please help.

Fill the koyo with fluid until it's full. Sorry, I can't recall exactly how much fluid it takes.

That line you're talking about that comes out of the fuel filter, where do you have that running to? I can't follow it past the pcv valve in the picture.

Relax man, you'll figure this out.

Where in N. Florida are you located?

It's going from the top of the fuel rail to the firewall side of the fuel rail.

Appreciate the help man.

I go to school at FSU in Tallahassee and I'm building the car in Destin.

*******UPDATE

I mounted my gauges and fixed my cracked dash. Two birds with one stone.

Not too big...

Close-up:

What?...

Beautiful clean cut...

Ohhhhhh...

Oh yeah, look at that windshield.

What other gauges should I get? I have boost and wb now... Oil Pressure? Oil Temp? Fuel Pressure?

Oh ok.... I see now. It kinda looked like it was going to that T that is connected to the valve cover at the top, but now I see that that piece was just in front of it. Ok thanks.

duh, I should have figured it was Tallahassee from your user name. I was asking because if you were closer, I could have helped you sort out the last bugs. I would get an elect. oil pressure gauge also.
