I guess since this will be my first oil change since owning the car, I should treat her right and pay that little extra for the Royal Purple.

Mobile 1 works great for me, but go with what you know and feel comfortable with.

I use turtle wax nano tech for my dash: It's a bit different than the pic, because I got it on special years ago (bought like 3 bottles lol) http://www.team.ie/images/T5595.jpgI'm sure the ICE brand works well too

I use Mobil 1 10w30 for winter, and royal purp 10w40 for summer or track use months. Both are great imo.

BTW nice find. Just wait you'll be looking for a 5spd before you know it, but props on keeping a classic car nice and oem. It'll be worth way more someday when this whole drift dangerously s*** catches up with people.

Do you recall if the nanotech is available at places like Kragen's, Autozone, etc? I'd opt for the 303 Aerospace, but the only place to buy it in store is some miles drive away from me. Yeah, the transmission swap is debatable, but if it were up to me and I had more knowledge, time, and money, I would want to buy a 240z and build that and just keep this car as a clean DD.

Well, i suggest you dont do a transmission swap, because youd have to cut holes in the floor and such. I think maybe you should just save up for a 5 speed, so you can have 2, a DD and a spare and/or 'fun' car lol

Good call. A 240z or 510 to beat the crap out of will be in my future.

you can get the spray at pepboys/autozone/advaced auto whatever you choose I'm sure it's there. It is shiny though so if you're into keepin the dash look more oem I'd opt for a Lexol brand vinyl protectant.http://www.autogeek.net/lexsprayvin.html

I don't really care as long as I never see a crack on the dash then I'm happy. I'll try out each of these and keep using a sunshade and just hope for the best. Thanks for your help.

I dont think you should beat a datsun up considering they're kind of 'collectors items' in a way.

Of course, it was just a bit of an exaggeration. I'm too sensitive to do such things to cars. To a certain extent.

Minor update. Apparently, we're changing the differential and/or transmission fluid tomorrow. I was searching through the forums then I realized that changing ATF and MTF fluids in this car are different, because I'm an idiot. Apparently, it's necessary to replace the transmission filter which does not exist in M/T, and that I have to remove the entire pan. And apparently there is no fill plug, only drain and so I only fill it up through the "charge pipe" or the dipstick hole. The more you know. Sound good so far? And I'm assuming changing the differential is the same.

Well, now that I figured that out, apparently there will still be transmission fluid in the torque converter. I don't really have any idea on how to deal with that, unless just dropping the pan suffices. Atleast now I'm starting to see how much auto trannys suck.

Yep, I suppose. Good luck with your endeavor. After doing more reading, it seems to get the fluid in the torque converter they all follow the similar step of: "disconnect the cooler line that is the return from the ATF cooler to the ATF and aim it into your measured container." I don't really know which line that is, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

'Transmission fluid not only allows the transmission to change gears, but also to prevent the transmission from overheating. In addition, the fluid acts as a lubricant to prolong the life of the transmission's internal components. As the fluid circulates through the transmission, it gradually increases in temperature. To cool the transmission fluid, the fluid is routed to the radiator at the front of the vehicle via two cooler lines. Whether the transmission is to be removed or the transmission cooler lines are to be replaced, the first step in either process is to remove the cooler lines.'

hope that helps...

It does, thanks. I now know that there are two lines but so far there is no specification as to which line to pull. Unless I'm supposed to pick and hope for the best.

Ugh, I feel so handicapped in knowledge. Chances are, I'll end up doing 4. He thought it was a great idea to take out the negative cable WHILE the engine was on to remove an annoying windshield wiper fluid indicator light in the cluster. So, that almost blew up my alternator.

Bump. We decided not to change the fluids. Today, I got a wisdom tooth pulled out (ouch) and those SE alloy rims... for $140. Not bad, but they need some TLC. Take a look.. Not that bad looking from afar. But the clear coat has come off and shows these ugly marks. This annoys me the most. Any ideas how to fix that?

So, before I put these wheels on I think I'm going to get some paint thinner and wet sand them and repaint them the Duplicolor wheel paint as shown here zerothread/254840

Though, I don't know if I should just repaint them with the similar silver and clear coat or try out that bronze..

one way is:1) You will want to sand all of your rim or rims with a 150 grit sand paper. (Be sure to get all corners)2) Spray with primer.3) Repeat steps one and two 4-5 times.4) Next, you will want to tape off your tire. 6) Spray with your choice of spray paint.7) Finish it off with clear coat.

oh and by the way, ouch @ the teeth part at least you got the rims though.. hope the teeth stop hurting soon..

Thanks, but it was only one tooth(for now). I timed it..it only took him three minutes minus the 2 injections of novocaine. I intend on taking those steps to restore the rims, but of course my dad thinks it will take too much time so he rather just put paint thinner on it to get rid of the clear coat and call it day. Obviously, I have a feeling something will go terribly wrong.

I know, so I'll deal with that. The father-son drama is irrelevant and unnecessary on this forum. Are you still going for the same S13?
