Thanks fellas. ash16847, I mentioned that I will get the SE alloy wheels and..that's it. I just think aftermarket wheels looks pretty stupid if I don't drop the car.

Very true. But for now, I need to concentrate my money on an alarm/installation(Since I didn't quite realize how expensive it could be for labor). The alloys will hold me for a long time, or atleast I hope so.

true, true... the RMS13 im lookin into has aftermarket rims but they're kinda ugly.. purple '89 with purple tint in the back. black rims, stage 1 clutch, short ram intake, and ugly aftermarket interior. with 137,195 miles.. for $2,000... not many s13's around here and this one is an hour away. But yea, good luck with your stockers.

Do you mean RPS13? I don't know man, I wouldn't touch any car with a stick that has that ugly Walmart slap on tint. I'd take the pain and suffering and keep waiting for that special one.

Well a vlsd is technically "stock", you can even get one from a hicus 240.

Why do you want to down grade? Is it a V6?

No, RMS13. its a KA, not an SR. R is R-body, as in the fastback (hatch)and M stands for KAP stands for SRand even if it did have cheap tint, i could remove it easily lol.

Oh and by the way, you can search for rims on craigslist under 'auto parts' if you didnt know that. you can find some really good deals on them...

Edit: and im not downgrading. JDM > USDM. and its an 89 LX mustang with a 2.3l 4 cylinder. color metallic medium shadow blue 1 of 2,090 out of a total of 209,769 mustangs made that year.

Wow, nice find. A 240sx that old with only 50k miles on it is getting very rare nowadays. Mine had about 300k on it when I bought it, but I replaced the poopy sohc engine with a KA24DE with only about 160k miles on it. I can appreciate your desire to keep it looking stock but there are a number of mods you can perform without compromising the factory look. This is known as sleeper style. Like that vlsd(viscous limited slip differential) mentioned earlier, that is installed under your car in the rear axle so nobody would know it was there and your car would run stabler under lower traction conditions. A stiffer suspension would improve handling and not be really noticeable as long as you didn't lower your car too much. Also, they make quiet exhausts. As far as that automatic transmission goes, I understand your apprehension about leaving that way as it isn't a terribly easy job to replace it with manual but it can be done with information you can find on this very forum. Anyways, just a couple suggestions brotato. Good luck with your car.

Ah ok, didn't know that fact. I'm going to definitely consider a vlsd, but not right now. For some reason, my dad want's to replace the open diff and transmission fluid right now..before a supposed 60k maintenance, which I still can't find information about, lol. And Ash, the only after market rims I'd ever consider is the LGMT Nismos or Volks..which aren't exactly the cheapest, nor can I find them used. I don't really want Rotas or Sportmax.

As in TE37's? if you mean that your favorite rims are the NISMO's or the TE37's, you have a good sense of rim choices, my favorites as well XD

Thanks Brandmeister. I have dreamt about coilovers before but it will be very noticeable with my old man and that would be bad. I'm generally sticking with Nismo S-Tune or a Koni Yellow and spring combination when the stock suspension blows. I'm pretty happy the way it handles right now anyways. The other thing is, he won't allow me to drive a stick yet for whatever reason. As much as it sucks, I feel obligated to obey since he did this huge favor for me. I need to take baby steps anyways.. I'm just trying my best to not overly molest this car.

Yeah ash, I think the 5-6 spoke rims look best on these cars imo.

Yes, they say they're overused. they're wrong, they look nice on a lot of cars, thats all. i see you like the NISMO parts, I'd go NISMO as well. lol

I guess I'm a Nismo fanboy, or I'm just clinging to it's most likely overpriced parts because that's my only leighway to doing anything to this car when I want to. It's probably more so the latter.

Haha yeah, you have to do what your pops wants since he bought you the car. As far as the transmission fluid goes, I couldn't tell you how to replace it from experience. However, http://www.240edge.com/manuals/s13-ka24de.html this is a link to factory service manual in pdf format I think? In any case it will tell you how to perform any kind of maintenance you can think of on your car including the transmission fluid.

just because you like them doesn't mean you gotta say 'fanboy.' it gets annoying when everyone calls me a JDM fanboy all the time... but yea NISMO parts are actually really good and they're like FOR the cars, so it makes sense, honestly.

Yeah, I was reading through the FSM and they say no specifics about 60k major maintenance..no mention of anything like timing chain or water pump. Play it by ear I guess?

I'd say yes, and:-check and refill all fluids-brake check-tire check (replace/pump up/rotate/etc.)-overall check of all components visually and mechanically (without disassembling anything)-since your in CA, check the A/C-check the transmission-and watch for blown head gaskets, and beware of low coolant or white 'milky' oil. s13's are known a lot for blown head gaskets.

Well, I think your dad means 60k is just general time to do maintenance for all cars. Although I think your father is thinking of timing BELTS specifically. Timing belts should be replaced after 60k miles, but our cars have timing chains and last for much much longer. The information on the timing chain is under the EM(engine mechanical) section of the manual.

Yes brand, i completely forgot about the belts. But K3, also i suggest checking under the car to make sure theres no oil dripping out of the oil pan or anything, because you never can be too sure.

I checked, everything is nice and clean. I couldn't find any damaging rust on the underbody either. Then again, I have not jacked up the car yet so I can't say that for sure. Most of the annoyances regarding the condition are just cosmetic, like tree sap.

Ok, sounds good, but i highly suggest checking at least once a month, just to be safe. By the sounds of it, you love this car, as i would too. Also, i suggest washing it for the tree sap, which is obvious

Yep, I have a claybar around here somewhere and hopefully that will rid of it. Also, I'm going to post up a picture of what the previous owner put in the second DIN. It's some sort of old school Kenwood radio scanner or something. My first post shows it a little bit. I'm just wondering how would I use this thing?

Oh yeah! One more thing. I'd advise you only use synthetic oil. Its more expensive but totally worth it. Lasts a lot longer than normal oil and just works better. You can save a bunch of money if you change the oil yourself, which is pretty easy if you have a simple car jack.

Oh yes, what brand said, i highly suggest Royal Purple. they make the best synthetic oil out there IMO. DO NOT use Valvoline or whatever, as that usually leaks out somehow.

Oil, I'm going to use Mobil 1, Castrol, or Royal Purple 5w-30 synthetic. Diff fluid will be Mobil 1 75w-90, transmission fluid will be Amsoil ATF, and I'll get a K&N drop in air filter. When I do my brakes or bleed them, I'm going to get power slot rotors, Hawk HPS pads, and Super Blue fluid. They feel good right now, so I guess if I have the time and money and I'm bored enough, then I'll tackle that.

good choices, i see you've done some research, but once again i highly suggest the royal purple. Ive seen a demonstration as I've talked to a rep in my automotive class at my school last year, and it prevents wear, and is definitely a really great lubricant.
