Goblin--Beautiful truck. It looks big enough to pull a Nissan Rogue out of quick sand.

Goblin, I cant blame you for trading in your Rogue. I am on my 3CVT and although I hear a ticking noise sometimes, so far so good. But if the CVT starts acting up again, I can almost say for sure it will be traded in.

Best mod is right! Plus, there's good news ... my husband has an '08 Tacoma, and he's still on his first transmission Besides, what's there to compare between the Rogue and the Tacoma? You were driving a lemon and now you're not. End of comparison. From where I sit, you win. Hands down.

Thank you for the vote of confidence but I'm not here to jack my own thread. This thread is about the transmission rattle and issues surrounding that. I posted that up as my discuss with Nissan had reached its peak to the point of trading my Rogue.

I continue to monitor this thread in hopes that Nissan comes through for its customers and admits the faults with the CVT and implements a new design there by standing by their product. Yeah its a sad dream but like my little girl says; Miracles do happen every day. LOL... What a crock! I crack myself up...

This drove me crazy as I started noticing this about 2-3 months after I bought my Rogue. I always seemed to notice it accelerating/de-accelerating at about 40 MPH.

Every time I brought it into Nissan they always said they are aware of the problem and are working on it. After 3 times I told them fix it or I'm calling Lemon Law..needless to say they installed a new transmission (car only had 15K miles) and 3 months later started all over again.

My 2008 Nissan Rogue had the same noises that you are hearing in your vehicle. Moreover, I was hearing these noises under the same conditions you have described. Ultimately I had to have the transmission on my vehicle replaced under warranty. After the transmission was replaced, the noises disappeared. Good luck.

Well I couldn't take it anymore and decided to follow in Goblins and Williammoses footsteps. Yesterday I traded the Rogue in on a Toyota FJ cruiser. I couldn't take anymore of Nissan's lies, excuses and B.S. trying to get my transmission fixed. So I went back to Toyota and Nissan will never see another dime from me.

Yes I lost some money on the Rogue and I'll take a hit at the gas pump but I finally have piece of mind and how can you put a price tag on that!

KCFM: Nevermind the Nissan Rogue--it's metal, plastic and rubber. The real culprit in all of this has been Nissan USA's shoddy treatment of its customers. In comparison Nissan Canada had been straight up from the start, which is why Canadian Rogue owners remain loyal to the product. I hope you enjoy your Toyota as much I am enjoying my Honda CRV. And lest we forget, Nissan has packaged up some nice features in the Nissan Rogue. Good luck to all.Regards,William MosesAlexandria VA

My 2008 Rogue, sorta makes a groaning, grumbling sound when going around 10 miles per hour. Took it into the dealership today and they are replacing the transmission. Something wrong with something from the factory. Thank God it is under warranty. The Dealership was great and I am walking away happy I chose a Nissan.

Even though most of us with a case of the 'rattles' struggled with Nissan to get new trannys, I think most of us have gotten good results.

When I look back on it, it was more of a minor annoyance than anything else.

Facts: the transmission never failed, other than the 'rattle' the car has run faultlessly for 25,000 miles during which we have averaged 27.9 mpg. The car has handled itself admirably in our occasional light snowstorms, even with the stock Dunlops on.

We are so overjoyed with our Rogue that we are now looking at a Versa to replace our gas guzzling 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Daytrippr, I am sure you will like the Versa, I bought a 2009 Versa HB SL with cvt and beside I own a 2008 Rogue AWD SL. The Versa cvt is very quiet compare to Rogue. I love both cars.

Don't get me wrong. Besides the transmission issue I think the Rogue is a good car and good value for the money. It combined good power with great fuel economy. Styling, features etc. all a great buy compared to it's competition. Thus the reason I purchased it to begin with.

Yes, my problem lies with Nissan and the way the treat their customers. Yes, had the treated us here in the U.S. the way they treat their Canadian customers I would probably have a different attitude about all this. But all the different stories/lies everyone one of us was told, the deceit etc. that's what burns me.

This was my first and will most definitely be my last Nissan. I also would not recommend a Nissan purchase to anyone I know due to the way Nissan treated many of us. Yes, I'm sure Nissan is not going to be hurt by my lack of business with them. But if they continue to treat their customers the way they do eventually, by word of mouth, it may.

Just wanted to say what a great forum this was though with an excellent moderator Philipa.

Good luck with all your Rogues.

I'm having my transmission looked at for the third time on Monday. This time at a different dealership. Hopefully the third time's a charm.

Well, good news!! The third time was a charm. They are having a new transmission sent over night and it will be replaced tomorrow. I don't have the time today to look back through this thread for the part number that I should look for when I pick it up. I have a '08 SL AWD. I am hoping they put a '09 in. They said it was new, but you never know. If anyone has AWD '09 transmission part number handy, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I also have this problem with my AWD rogue. At first I thought it is normal but after I followed this tread I start feeling worry and confused. Should I ask my dealer to fix this problem? How many folks have done this fix

Don't worried, or over analyze the situation. You've got a warranty, if you feel you've got a problem with your vehicle schedule a service appointment and let Nissan Service take care of the problem, nothing to worry about! My CVT was replaced almost 10,000 km ago and everthing has been absolutely perfect since then. Just don't let them brush you off or tell you that the noise is normal and you'll be fine, it's a no brainer.

Its incredible people would actually believe this. I'm sure Nissan realizes people buy more than one car over their lifetime, and if they intentional designed cars to fail, I'm guessing they'd be out of business pretty quick.

Are the noises actually supposed to stop? I don't have a transmission rattle (knock on wood), just normal operating ones.

The 'noise' started a year ago.... at about 9000 miles (15,000km). It never grew louder, or changed how frequently it occured. The rattle is barely noticeable. Unless it gets very loud, or Nissan releases a tech bulletin regarding a potential issue, I am not going to get my CVT replaced.

No you don't have a problem, and clearly this doesn't fit in this thread, you don't have any grinding or rattling noises, so you're hijacking this thread.

This has been discussed in detail under another thread (see a list of all topics in the glossary, this should always be the first place to look)

zerothread/295532

Basically all Rogues have this vibration due to the early selection of a high gear ratio combined with the QR25 engine, read full details at the above thread.

I got my Rogue back today after having the transmission replaced. They did put in a '09 transmission. It drives great, seems more responsive then before. It's so nice to not have that rattle anymore...and I hope I never have to deal with it again.

I am getting my transmission replaced on my 08' SL AWD should be done on Tuesday. Just wanted to send a thanks for these forums as they are very helpful to discuss problems. I will send an update on the process and if I have an problems with the dealer. But so far everyone has been top notch. I have 16,200 miles on mine before I needed to take it in. I heard the noise faintly (slight rattle) at about 15,500miles.

I had exact same prob over a year ago. Put in a new transmission. Noise returned. Took back in, Field Techs said it was a known issue, and no repair was authorized. Followed up every 8 weeks. Finally, dealership service mad extra calls for me and Nissan NOW (as of about 30 days ago) has a new transmission. Nissan agreed to replace. On order now. I'll try to remember to revisit here and update, but I'm confident this will take care of it. BTW, my situation has been getting worse over time, but car is still drivable.

I have been hearing the rattling noise for a while, and I had no idea what it was. Today, when I took my 08 rogue to the dealership, I mentioned to them about the noise. Half hour later, they came back and said that it was the transmission and needs to be replaced. They are going replace new transmission tomorrow.

I asked them why would this happen to a new car? They mentioned that Nissan was aware of the problem, and they have seen few rogues before that needed the replacement. They also mentioned that Nissan fixed the problem with 09 model. Hopefully this works.

My wife and I are looking to replace her '02 CRV that has given us GREAT service but really like the 09 Rogue SL AWD better than the new CRVs. I am aware of CVTs having replaced belts on a Honda Helix scooter. The belt had to be replaced ever 12k miles so I started doing research on Nissan's CVT to see what kind of service requirements there were when I ran across this site. Read many pages of this thread but haven't seen any posts of owners of '09 Rogues having the noise issue...or any other problems that I can find regarding CVTs on '09 models. The problems with the '08s and the response of US dealerships have caused me concerns regarding the purchase of an '09 AWD Rogue. Seems as though the fix for those getting the problem corrected is the installation of an '09 CVT. Has this problem been corrected for '09 and has anyone put enough miles on the '09 CVT to confirm that the problem is gone??? Thanks.

Love cars. Love Hondas-Acuras.Just traded in a 2008 Honda Element EX AWD for a Rogue SL/AWD with all packages.First Nissan but I already have many concerns with the transmission. My Rogue SL/AWD/Tech package is a 2008 model.I have the problem and I'll take it to a GO Nissan in the Denver area. Let see how they handle it.I would not put up with the hassle, I had enough from Fords in the past.I got a brand new 2007 CRV(first production from Japan) and had the rear end problem, tire pressure monitor replaced twice. All those problems with only 800 miles so, I traded the worse piece of crap Honda made for a new 08' Element.

I love the Rogue(the wife's vehicle) and all the technology but I am already thinking about a diff vehicle and Nissan doesn't handle it in a proper way.I love the Acura RDX but with all the toys(Nav) it is very expensive and I will only drive the vehicle only on the weekends. The wife doesn't care about the Turbo in the RDX but I do

Anyhow I read all the post on this thread and I seen how frustraded Goblin got. I really understand it, I've been there (Honda CRV) and Honda Corp at the very end gave me a 7year-100K miles bumper to bumper warranty.Too late, I just traded a year later.I need a SUV for the wife(Snow/rain) but I am seriously looking at a 09' Fit Sport(not an SUV) Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Venza or even a Subaru tribecca.Anyhow, I'll wait till Monday. If Nissan fix it, I'll keep it.I already added an extended range Remote start and a really cool backup sensors.

I'll keep you post.Great website, lots of info. Thanks guys.

My 2008 Rogue SL FWD just made 14,000 miles and after my last service I've noticed a whirring or whining noise coming from the driver's side front wheel area. The noise increases in pitch as I drive faster and is not really noticable when below 15mph. Any ideas to what this could be?

P.S. I haven't detected any vibration either.

Tire noise?

Hey everyone -

I'm an owner of a 2008 Altima, 3.5SE V6 Sedan w/ CVT. Purchased in Apr 2009 and now has 4600 miles on it. This car has a type RE0F09B CVT, which isn't even the same CVT as Rogue CVT (RE0F10A).

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I too am getting the low-speed rattle/whine that has been described in this thread. Looks like JATCO needs to do some more work on their Quality Control.

I've taken the car to the dealer twice and finally got them to admit there's a rattle coming from the car. Unfortunately they said that the noise is "normal", which I was willing to entertain as plausible until I started reading this thread.

I've notified Nissan about the problem and will try to work with the dealership for another week or so. If they can't deliver then it's arbitration/lemon law! (If you consider transmission failure a life-threatening event, then I'm already in lemon-law territory!)

(In CA, a "reasonable" number of repair attempts before the lemon law kicks in is 2 for life-threatening defects, and 4 for other. Also if the car is out of service for more than 30 days combined over all defects, the lemon law kicks in.)

1125Altima3.5, Sorry to hear your Altima is giving you problems, but there is a lot of experience and wisdom to draw from in this thread to help you get through it.
