We are quickly approaching 35K miles on our 08 AWD SL Rogue

We consistently get 27-28 mpg. Great car! (great new CVT!)

Well when I first recieved my vehicle. I had 13-15 MPG on the onboard computer with the first couple of tanks. I reset the onboard computer for the MPG computation so I can start anew. Now I have been getting 22.8 MPG in city. My highest was 24.2 MPG but 22.8 - 23 MPG has been my norm lately. I have around 2800 miles presently on my odometer.

Please note I go by the on-board computer even though accuracy is questionable from what I read.

Not to worry. Give it some time, it will get better as others have reported. I'll admit I was worried when I first got my 2009 FWD. I experienced the same disappointing results as you when it was new. After 5 fill ups my best result was only 19MPG. However I've since had my first oil change and my Rogue now has 3800 miles on it. We just returned from a highway trip (with the A/C on for about half the trip) and I calculated 25.5 MPG (the dash computer registered 27.1) This is my best MPG yet Per my gas log the MPG in my Rogue has been slowly creeping up (about two tenths of a mile per gallon) with each fill up.

NOTE: I also switched from dino oil to synthetic (Mobil 1) which has been reported to improve fuel economy due to lower friction in the engine.

I would consider that mileage a little on the low side, but others have reported those numbers too. I along with many others have found that the CVT mileage is ENTIRELY dependent on how you drive. Any weight to the accelerator and the engine rev's up relatively high and does not fall down for some time, but with an extremely light foot, the vehicle is capable of some great mileage.

Some more data from my last 6 tanks - 100% highway - Odo between 35,000km-40,000km

Mean - 26.4 MPG (9.04 L/100km)Max - 30.4 MPG (7.79 L/100km)Min - 22.9 MPG (10.34 L/100km)

All in the US, so Winter gas probably not a factor. My experience really highlights how dramatically mileage drops off when the engine is revving at >2500 RPM (23MPG) when travelling at 110km/h or faster vs. at around 2000 RPM (30 MPG) when cruising at 90-100km/h.

For those with low mileage, I find A/C, tire pressure, rate of acceleration, winter gas, can all contribute about 10% plus/minus to your mileage. So if you optimize each of these, you can potentially improve mileage by 40-50%.

Another factor that can affect gas mileage is if the fuel contains ethanol. I heard that ethanol makes your exhaust cleaner but it also makes your mileage suffer.also some gas stations have bad/tampered pump so it actually dispenses less fuel than what you are paying.

Not bad mileage Rogue-rogue. Unfortunately it won't improve much till spring as we are now using winter gas formulations, idling more, etc. By then you will have a few more km, the engine break-in will be complete and you should easily get mid 9's or better.

Yeah, nothing kills good mileage faster than -30 degrees Celcius, but at least we aren't getting the -58 (with windchill) like Edmonton.

I'm not sure about that...

My last fill up...16.1L/100km.

I didn't use my remote starter, I didn't do some "drift" and I run the engine really smooth all the time, specially when the motor is cold.

koolyce,

Winter really effect fuel mileage. Fuels are formulated differently during winter months and it is quite common to see a drop in fuel economy even if your driving does not change.

As for my latest fuel economy test:

9.4l/100km or 25mpg - 40% city, 60% highway

This is down from my summertime mileage of 8.0 l/100km or 29.3 mpg.

So glad I read this. I was starting to get a little upset that my averages for my first two tanks were around the 19mpg range. Between reading about the break in period and watching how I drive as the Rogue's warming up... I'm already just shy of 24 mpg on this tank

You are all pretty lucky because I stay always aroun 14L/100km right now in the winter. Even when I drive slowly, gently, highway, my consumption is still high.

Linds,

That's great news, I'm always glad to hear that our forum was able to help somebody out, and maybe the environment and air quality benefited a little bit too because you're now driving more efficiently.

Koolyce, like Philip said, you'll get much better mileage once spring arrives, my mileage plumments in the cold Alberta winter too, and I really dislike how the Rogue sounds and drives when it's really cold so I have a tendancy to warm it up more than I've done with any other vehicle. Also, the Rogue seems very slow to warm up when driving so if I don't pre-warm it I end up driving almost the entire way to work with the engine rattling and the CVT geared too low so I avoid this by warming it up a few extra minutes before leaving. Not the best advice, I know, but it's what I do and my point being I don't get very good mileage in winter either!

I'm still getting 14-16L/100km. I don't use remote starter and I didn't let the car running on standby more than 30 sec...

I hope it will change next summer... my consumption is like a V6.

I think the digital mpg is set on the conservative side. Most of my mileage is highway and, after about 38,000 miles, I have calculated 27.4 mpg while my digital readout says 26.2 mpg. (FWD SL)

I'm more than a bit disappointed so far. I picked up my Rogue just after New Year and am getting the fuel efficiency of my former 2002 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl. I have been refilling shortly after the low fuel light comes on. I don't know if we in Vancouver use winter grade gasoline, but so far I am unimpressed.

rolade01: I also live in Vancouver, I find that some station cheats you by having pumps that give out less fuel than what you paid for. from experimenting I find that pump # 6 (marked as for suv and trucks) at my local superstore gas bar gives the most accurate gas dispensing so I always get my gas at the same pump every time.

Hey Rogue-rogue - which Superstore Gas Bar do you use? I live near UBC so the closest one to me is the one on Marine Drive. I sometimes shop there or at the one in Richmond. I've been watching your posts and it was making me think there must be something wrong with my Rogue. I want to experiment before I take any action with my dealer. Thanks in advance.

Well I wonder how many people are havig the less than stellar fuel efficiency that I am. I will be taking this up with my local service department to find out what it could be.

Here's a useful link to calculate your fuel consumption: http://calculator-converter.co...r.php

Are you saying you have only put 3 tanks of fuel in your Rogue so far? There have been reports (myself included) that it can take at least 5000km or more before the fuel economy will settle down. There are several reasons for this:

1) Engine break-in: A new engine has fairly high friction and it can take +5000km for break-in to complete.2) ECU self learning: The engine can take several thousand km to fine tune the air/fuel ratio.3) Winter fuel: Typically I see a 1-2 l/100km decrease in fuel economy during winter. This is partly due to the effects of cold weather (long periods of idling, longer warm-up times), and additives in the fuel to promote cold weather starting.

By all means, take it into the dealer and have them look at it.

Finally, what type of driving do you do? Is it mostly short trips less than 15 min? Lots of stop and go traffic? Both of these will severely impact fuel economy.

I have actually the same kind of mileage as you. Even if I drive slowly, carefuly, etc...I can't go under 12L/100km.

I will wait for summer and see if I get better milage. I hope so.

I usually do short trips between 5 to 20 kms. 90% of my driving is in the city - stop and go if you will. Surprisingly traffic in Vancouver now is not really bad even with the Olympics in my area, but of course traffic lights are abundant. I do run out to the suburbs every weekend and get some good highway time though.

I'll follow up this post after talking to my service department rep.
