this warranty info is confirmed... i looked into it waay back in the late 90's when this was only amarok.org, a nissan 240sx only messageboard/email system...

if blksrjdm works at a local dealer, he can confirm this easily as well...

ps to lumberjack, that recall was about the plastic red button; apparently this was a defective part to other imports as well ie suzuki

Yep, the plastic breaks off, falls into the buckle itself, and keeps the mechanism from latching. I actually had it happen on my S13, I just took the whole buckle off and shook it upside down until the piece fell out. They are replacing it anyway.

They are replacing the belt because it is fraying.

As for an update, they are still waiting for parts. Its not something anyone stocks, so a little wait is to be expected. If I haven't gotten a call from them by next Monday, I will be following up myself.

hmmm, maybe ill call first, take it in second, then take my car and wait for the parts.... the $15dollar Bell seatbelt from kragen is holding up pretty well on my lap for now, its the shoulder one i dont trust..... i say if lap belts were cutting edge tech in the 70s, they should be fine now.

i disconnected my relay so it would stay in the upright position, that may be considered a mod. also, the car was purchased with out th e factory lap belt... but they are 2 seperate pieces.... i guess ill have to take it to nissan soon to get the answer.

If you need specifics, I switched to gtr seats, then switched out the buckle because the stock s13 buckle stuck out like a foot. Hence, modified.

the modifiction of something is to completely change it out from its orignal form to a new one. just b/c it wasnt properly working and you did what you had to so it'd work its not a modification. ok so you modify it so it back to sotck?! great mod big buy!

Modify. To change in form or character; alter.

I modified my seatbelts. Nissan will no longer cover them under warranty because they are no longer stock. That is the point I made.I made no claim about a great mod. I am sharing useful information that others can use. You are being a douche bag. big buy.... What an idiot. I'm done with you.

I have the origional warranty manual that came with my 93.If i get time i'll post the page in a pdf format. The problem with the seatbelts is if it is intermittant ,like mine is,(only stop every once in a while) they(nissan) wont do much unless it is physically broken.I have had 2 different appointments made, and when i get there it works, or starts working before the appointment, and they won't do anything then, which i understand.

My seat belts are going to bad too. My local Nissan sucks though. I tried to order one part from them before and they said i had to order a bulk of 10. It was just little parts but I only needed 1 and the car only required 1. I then called a different dealer in the next town over and they said they could get the part for me. I told him what happened and he said they can't do that. It made me mad.

I spoke with Nissan yesterday afternoon. 3 of my 5 parts had arrived, and the other 2 are due to arrive tomorrow.

I made an appointment to drop the car off Tuesday morning.

I dropped the car off this morning.

The service writer said it may not get done till tomorrow, but I will know by 5pm this evening if it will be done tonight or not.

If they cannot get it done tonight, they offered my a free courtesy vehicle, so I can get to work in the morning.

I sent Nissan of America an email requesting documents concerning their seat belt warranty. When I receive them, I'll post a link. My lap belt is malfunctioning, and if I can get it fixed for free, more power to me

Thanks FlackBlackIan, and everyone else who posted good info on this.

That's awesome. Thanks for all of the information. My shoulder belt is fraying and I've noticed that the buckle doesn't always latch right, I have to play with it for a minute to get it to latch. From what I understand from this thread, there is an open recall for that?

I will be taking this information to Nissan for a replacement as soo as I have some free time.

No Jacki is correct the buckle is under recall. Everything else is part of the warranty.

I just got back from Nissan, I have some good news and some bad news.

They f**ked up somewhere during repairs or diagnosis. I originally brought it in for three reasons. The lap belt buckle was finicky (like Jacki's), the shoulder belt no longer retracted, and the seat belt light flashed all the time.

They said the seat belt light no longer flashes, and the lap belt will plug in again, but the shoulder belt wont retract. We are 2/3 of the way there.

When I initially dropped it off to be inspected I tried to tell them it probably needed the track and the motor, but they only replaced the motor. They are keeping it overnight to asses the situation, which is service writer code for we screwed up and its going to take a day or two to fix.

Normally this would be a problem, because the S13 is my daily driver, and the S14 is all torn down for work. They hooked me up with a free courtesy vehicle at no cost to me. For the next few days I will be rolling in style (not) behind the wheel of a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant.

I am no fan of the car, but its free so I can't complain.

I'm expecting a call from the service writer in the morning with an update, I will relay that message here.
