My reasons:

9) My parents wanted me to get a Corolla or Civic (nothing wrong with them but let's be serious here) I didn't feel like driving a car that everyone else had. I needed something different.

10) It's teh awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I,ve only owned FWD cars and I promised myself that my next car would be RWD. I was originally going to get an AE86 cause it was so inexpensive but I couldn't find any in my area. So I kept searching and saw an S13 with a blown head gasket for $1100 online and picked it up. I fixed the HG but on my way to school it died, so it's currently waiting for a new motor.

Ive wanted one since I was 14 (now 24)

And I had the funds, and finally found one in perfect condition and things just lined up to where I could get it.

I dont drift, or race, or drag. I bought it because it's a solid all-around lightwieght sports car. And I can get out of my G and into my 240 and still love driving it. That, to me, speaks volumes for the car.

There fun little cheap cars, and with a little work ( to me ) the 180sx is still one of the best looking cars ever made. I sold all of my 240sx/180sx(s) at one point and bought a 2005 G35 coupe/ sports package/ 6 speed/ black on black, and all did was ckeck out 180sx(s). So I sold the G35 and bought back my 180sx and then picked up my 350z dirt cheap for the hell of it.

RWDlight weightcheapgreat aftermarket

And it's the Z32's little borther. Thats the car that made me a Nissan fan. My Dad bought a Stanza in 1990 (I was 10yrs old), and while he looked and haggled, I spent the entire time sitting in, looking around, and dreaming of the Z. When I got older and realized the 240's potential, I was hooked. But I still plan to own a Z someday, but not yet...

I looked at dozens of RWD cars (from BMW 3 series to Porsche 944 to Supra) and the 240sx was the best for the money IMO.

$1350. Its got damage everywhere, but its still a great drive, easily the best for the money.

Very simple, very clean. Great potential and reliable all around.

My neighbor has owned a s13 and when I was around 12 years old he took me for a spin... changed my perspective on cars, However I think my dad is pissed because he collects muscle cars. Both his sons have imports, I have a 240 and my brother has a WRX.

nah but for real I am about to get a 240sx because i wanted a light rwd japanese car that is a popular car for engine swaps.

I wanted a popular car for engine swaps because I love cars and want to learn as much as I can about them, so I figured if me and a friend got the same car, we can help eachother out doing the swap and we will learn a lot.

My friend just bought a kouki s14 and im about to go look at a juniper green s13 later today, hopefully I will come home with it.

I also wanted a cheaper car that I bought with my own money because I don't like driving around in my $30,000 my parents got me. Don't get me wrong, I'm very greatfull for the s2000 my parents got me and I love the car, but I need something with more torque and feel good about paying for the car myself.

When I was 17 and looking for my first car, I always wanted a 240sx but end up getting a honda del sol which wasn't that bad at that time, then later on got myself a 96 civic hatchback. Swap in a b18c then a drag3 kit and re did the whole exterior but end up selling everything (del sol, hatch) for a pick up and finally the car of my dreams at 22 age now, a 240sx because its still a car that I wanted.

Sold my hondas because they got broke into numbers of times and almost stolen twice.

I bought my silvia because everyone and their cat had a skyline. Also it was a cool color (stock midnight purple)

I had a free car all lined up for when i got my Civilian drivers license, but then i spotted it on a lemon lot, with the bodywork,,, and later found out about all the extra mods it came with

So, the day after i spotted it, i put down some cash (Y20000) on it and an MP3 player as colateral (teh ATMs only let you take out a limited amount per day)the next day i completed the driving course, paid the rest of the cash and drove it home (that was the first time i had driven alone in japan)

it was an 89 silvia Ks, looked like it may have started life automatic. it already had the headlight brackets cut for a frontmount, bost control, some kinda frankenstein t28 turbo on the internally stockish CA18

and anything that unbolts from the unibody frame got unbolted and brought back, and is now (almost all of it) on a donor USDM shell (project legal VIN swap... its not legal to take the vin tags off the shell, but it is legal to swap the shell)

and this is all basically a test fitting anyway. at some point in the future, i will be doing an 'Overhaulin' style rebuild again, glass out, subframes off, strip and repaint. strip and powdercoat the subframes, RHD coversion etc. energy suspension bushings, the works

(and teh RHD is because i liked driving RHD alot better. shifting with left hand == win, more room on dead pedal, and more room for turbo fun stuff without MBC and steering column)

what was teh question? why did i buy it? because it wasnt a skyline and dumb luck that i found one (i had only done small car stuff until then.... an exhaust and brakes on a 76 torino elite. 4 wheelin a76 bronco and isuzu trooper .... ... but now i think rebuilding engines is a fun hobby

CJ

edit> if it matters, i paid Y50000 for the 89 silvia with 95k KM (~$500 depending on exchange rate) and i paid $1400 for the rust-free 89 USDM with 93K miles coupe to rebuild onto. so altogether, ~$2000 for a US legal silvia

not quite-youve got your E86 and earlier corollas (a GTS can be as low as 2200 lbs stock, with 50/50)-all MR2s (mki aw11==win)-Miatas (1st and 3d gen are 50/50, 2nd gen not quite and the engine isnt as beefy)-FC and earlier RX7s are under 3k lbs (somebody check me on that one)

and all of them have documented engine swaps as well if you want a change

This was my last beast...
