NICO will be the only Nissan sponsor there. We will have an easy-up with a banner and our cars on display. Come by and introduce yourself, it'd be great to meet you. We are planning on taking the '63 pickup, the '67 wagon, and the '67.5 Roadster.

OK, I said there were going to be no more updates for awhile, but I had to post this. Bear with me, it will eventually pertain to the 240.
My other car is(was) a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i. Black, 2 seater go-fast-get-me-a-ticket-and-numbers car, a present to myself upon my return from Iraq.
This car has been cursed. It's been towed 3 times, plates stolen, neighbor blew my clutch for me, etc etc....
Last weekend, someone *cough cough ex cough cough* broke into my garage. This was the result.

She is totalled. The came by, took down a report, and told me straight up there would be no investigation and they would not catch anyone. I was kind of hoping for some CSI type stuff, with fingerprints, pubic hair, and lasers, but no. All he said was that there was a lot of hate involved in this, and I need to think about who I pissed off. Ironically, they even used my own jack and tools to attempt to make off with my rims.
Here's the silver lining:
I owed $7400 on her.
Geico paid me her value, $13200.
BMW is now paid for.
Credit card that was run up is now paid off.
Motorcycle is now paid off.
I only have 3400 left on the Nissan.
I'm just a few months away from being debt free.
I know this was done in an attempt to screw me over, but I feel like I should sent the ex a thank you card.
I now have disposable income for Nismo automotive awesomeness!
HURRAY HOOYAH AND OTHER EXCLAMATIONS OF ENTHUSIASM!

In other news, I and a helper sanded the 240 in preparation for a Rustoleum paint job.

Good times were had by all. 12 weeks to WASHINGTON! And a double deep garage with every tool known to man, also known as my parents garage.

Ok, I'm done for now. Paint pics up as soon as they are available.

Wow being a military man myself, I feel the need to be scared of my girl friend!

I hope you've got a garage to park your car in...

And best of luck with life sailor.

HAHAHAHA!
240sxjoe92: THAT is not the ex. That's the new girl. That's her S-10. Shortly after meeting her, I was playing with her dog, next to her truck, commenting on her well used toolbag in the truckbed, while she quoted lord of the rings and asked if she could help with my car. I think I met ex-wife number 2!
Bobby: 570sx is on the way. I sourced a 2004 LS1 with 62k in WA for about $900 from a friend. My evil plan is coming together....
Lezoso: Don't be scared, be prepared. CYOA before you walk down that aisle, that's all you gotta do. And I'm kind of at the extreme end of the spectrum, not everyone gets it as bad as I did. You might have yourself a keeper!

Hey man.
As we talked before you know I'm Navy, and I'm engaged.
I've known my Fiance for 11 years now.
We probably won't wed till I'm almost out. She has school in Texas and its the 2nd best in the nation for her degree.
I love her dearly and I love my car, I can see exactly what you have been through.
I'm not going to preach to you but I will say this, He has a plan for you and, He already has absolute justice planned.
You're going to be more than fine. Have you talked to JAG?

Don't know how it makes you feel but I'm praying for you.

Hang in there "SHIPPIE!!!"
and um, don't you f***ing dare take this out on yourself.

Your liver didn't do anything to you, and I don't want to hear a damned ORM brief talking about you.
Take care of yourself... and your beast awaiting glorious rebirth.

-John

I got tired of my faded black rattlecan primer paint job, and finally did something about it. She was already sanded, and just needed a deep clean.
So I did that. And then this happened.

Did some more paint today, focused on smaller area projects.
I found some duplicolor metalcast paint and figured I'd try it out on my valve cover.
Image

Image
started with some of this. It bubbled like mad going on. Coat heavily and leave it on for about 30 minutes. DO NOT GET IT ON EXPOSED SKIN, EVEN JUST A SPECK!!! CHEMICAL BURNS SUCK BIG FAT HAIRY UNPLEASANT THINGS! On the upside, it washes off easily with water, and the burns aren't severe if you get to it quickly.

Image
With great care, long sleeves, gloves, and a face shield, using a dremel or other rotary tool with a plastic brush will strip everything to bare metal. I'm not sure, but the texture of the metal makes me believe that the valve cover is sand cast. The same dremel with a couple wire wheels will polish it down to a nice finish.

Image
Getting there!

Image
It's a slow process. I recommend having music or a conversational partner to help pass the time.

Image
A package of steel wool will also be handy. Pep boys sells them in packs of three levels of courseness. It's painfully slow, but when your dremel starts to get too hot to handle, it helps keep progress going.

Image
A sanding wheel attached to a power drill will also help clean up the larger areas in a hurry. You can tell the difference between the polished and unpolished areas.

Image
Partway done! This is the first coat of ground coat. It really clears up any surface imperfections, kind of like automotive Clearasil.

Image
So pretty! But not done yet!

Image
This is 4 coats of the color coat. Each coat is dry to the touch in 30 seconds, and about 10 minutes between coats. The light started to fail outside by this point, so I brought it inside and put it in the one place my cats can't get to it. I must say, it really does shine. I'm rather impressed.

Image
If I had a better camera, I could probably show you the luster in the color. I have to say, I'm rather proud of how it turned out. More pics once it's reinstalled!

It's all good. Just make sure you drag your a** down next year. The paint looks good so far, great job on the valve cover.

Wow....just spoted this thread a few hours ago. Spent the last hour and a half or so reading the entire thing..the hell u went thru man... glad that b**** got what she deserved! an more importantly, glad you made off like a bank robber! Score 1 for the good guys! This is honestly the best thread i have ever read. Ive read hundreds...SR Builds, RB builds/swaps, full racecar fabrication... and THIS is the best one. Your just like most people who buy these cars (especialy me when i first baught my S14). its the first (and only) car ive ever owned, and i got it when i was 16 (20 now). I was broke as hell so all i could afford was to do the little things to spice things up a bit, your thread brings back some good memories of kickin it in my garage after school, listening to led zepplin and Lynyrd Skynyrd (i lie in a redneck town, its the only thing on the radio lol). good times man good times... i LOVE that so far there has been 0% flaming on this thread. possibly a Nico first.. Love the bit about your lady friend the day of your divorce ;) haha. Well strait to the point... i live in North Idaho, about an hour away from Spokane WA. I do some custom fabrication work from time to time; do ALOT of custom fiberglass speaker boxes, as all sorts of other mods from fiberglass to carbon fiber to custom turbo systems...you ever need ANY work done; drop me a pm and I'll be sure to make room in my work schedule for you. Labor absolutly free of charge. I would be less "glad" and more honored to do work for you man, your a good guy whos walked thru hell with his head held high.

And as of this moment.....right about....NOW. Just cracked open a fresh brew; just for this thread. Cheers too you my friend...

HA! I don't plan to!
I'll drop a line when I'm back in the Great NW. I'd love an excuse for a roadtrip east, especially one that's car-improvement related! Let me know what your favorite beer is, and I'll make sure you're well stocked.
Once you're 21, of course.... hehehe

We could definitly do some glassin tho ;) as well as just about anything els. mabe do some ghetto garage paint work or somethin lol idk man whatever you need. As far as fiberglass goes, any and all projects realy..kind of a useful skill to know.
