I do as well, but the cost premium of non-ethanol fuel outweighs the MPG benefit from using it. I just stick with E10 91 or higher octane.

Here in Vancouver BC, Canada, only Shell's 91, 94 and Chevron's 94 have no Ethanol.

I just filled up with 94 at $5.87 USD a Gallon.

Today I put the engine undercover back up after it's been off for over a year. It's a pain to get the bolt holes lined up sometimes. I also filled the washer fluid, patted out the floor mats, and cleaned the passenger door panel, center console, and parking brake handle since they were looking grimy.

I've never had any real problem with the undercover. Start with the tab in the back, finger start the front bolts, finger start the rear bolts, make the hump on the sides is all the way home, finger start the side bolts, tighten everything (right angle drill helps speed things up). Done.

Pulled this from Petro-Canada site:
Ethanol-blended gasoline is a fuel that typically contains up to 10% ethanol in unleaded gasoline. We use ethanol in our gasoline where legislation requires its use and where conditions warrant. The Federal Government has regulated that motor gasoline sold in Canada after Sept. 1, 2010 must contain an annual pool average of 5% ethanol. Different provincial mandates also exist, some with higher ethanol pool requirements. Because of these mandates, most grades of Petro-Canada fuel may now contain up to 10% ethanol. This represents a change from the previous state, where premium fuel was ethanol-free at Petro-Canada. To find out if ethanol-blended gasoline is sold at a station look for the yellow labels in the pump area indicating that the fuel may contain a maximum of 10% ethanol.

And from Imperial site (Esso):
Ethanol-blended gasoline is currently available at participating Esso service stations in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Stations selling ethanol-blended gasoline have a label on the pump indicating the gasoline may contain up to 10 percent ethanol.

The stations I use (In Ottawa, Ontario) have no such sticker/labels, so I'm assuming I'm filling up with 0% ethanol gas.

You guys should check out http://www.pure-gas.org it lists ethanol free gas stations by region in Canada and the US. Aparently here in Halifax all grades of gas from Shell and Esso are ethanol free.

Don't take this as a personal dig, it's just a thought on my part but: I don't understand with today's gas prices why so many of you still run premium gas in your Pathy's/QX4's.
I've been running 87 Octane regular gas for years with no loss of mileage or performance.
Every once in a while, just to see if there is a difference, I'll run a tank of mid-range (89 Octane), and it runs the same.
The only thing I can think of is that here in Canada, we don't put Ethanol in the regular gas.
Now, there are some stations (Independents) that carry 10% ethanol gas as an option, but most of the "normal" gas stations don't have it.
BTW, I was in the states 2 weeks ago and noticed all regular gas was 10% ethanol. Is it mandated?
Maybe that makes a difference in performance?? Thoughts?

As for what I did today: I gave it a thorough wash and vacuum, and started to wax it, but it got too hot.
I'll have to finish later on a cooler day.

Cheers. :bigthumb:

Well Canada is alittle different then FL. I know when it's really hot here, 95+*, I notice a huge difference in performance. Let me explain.......

I was filling up with regular gas. On the really hot days it would feel like something was wrong with the transmission. I would have to push the gas down alot farther then normal to accelerate. Something didn't feel right. The only way I could explain it was the transmission felt like it was in a higher gear then it was, like I was trying to accelerate in 3rd gear when I knew I was in 2nd. I started remembering all the factors in the equation and realized it only happened when it was really hot outside.

I finally put 2 and 2 together.

I realized it was because I was running regular gas. With 87 you'll have alot more detonation on hot days. When the ECU detects detonation, through the knock sensor, it'll retard timing. Reduced timing will feel EXACTLY like what I was experiencing. A large lack of performance. You'll need more throttle to accelerate because of the reduced timing.
I started filling up with 93 and I've never felt the problem again.
During the winter when the temp never gets above 75-80 I can run 89 or 87 without a problem. But with increased outside air temps I always run 93 because of this.

Huh, I gotta try midgrade during our "winter" then.

A while back I changed the gas warning bulb to a red LED. Today I saw it come on:

For the cluster you need #74 led bulbs..,

From that it looks like he has 3 blue leds. 1 for tach/fuel 1 for temp/speedo, and 1 for the odo.

I used to have blue but it didnt match the interior colors so now i have 3 white leds, matches and looks better imo.

I used #74 cool white tri LED SMD bulbs from SuperBrightLEDs. One for each of the gauges and one for odometer.

Each warning bulb except for the SES has a normal #74 non-SMD LED bulb of the same color as the warning lamp, except the gas light and O/D off light. The gas light has a normal red LED which overpowers the white filter, and the O/D off spot has a single red SMD LED to overpower the amber filter.

Do note that 2003-2004 clusters have LEDs in most warning lights from the factory, and all R50s have an LED for the airbag warning lamp from the factory. 03-04 clusters have normal #74 incandescent bulbs for the turn indicators and the high beam indicator, so purchase accordingly. Since these years require so few bulbs, I would just get SMD LED single bulbs for these bulbs.

The SES light is not an LED in my case because there was current leakage which illuminated the LED slightly at night and it annoyed me.

I'm on my phone so excuse any brevity.

:rotfl I never do but I had a credit card that wants mine and i was like YOLO :chuckle:
No difference in performance or mpg. I believe its all mental because one day I considered filling up wit 91 but didn't and later that day I was like Wow this thing flies now.... :squint:

And I have no problem with ethanol Granted we lose mpg but its crazy IMHYAO to only put "pure" in.
I mixed Regular and E85 in our 1999 pathfinder for a year no problems. (RIPices)

I oughta hook up my generic scan tool and log timing with 93 octane and then a few tanks of 87 octane to see if it really makes a difference in timing.

See if you can measure the timing under consistent conditions -- a nice flat piece of freeway on cruise control, and a big long hill. Some temperature and wind.

The caliper on the passenger side was frozen, so whenever I drove the brakes on that side would drag. All I would hear were loud screeching and grinding noises while driving. I went and bought new calipers pads and rotors, got them all replaced today for $100. I then took my old calipers and sold them, and I got $74.90 for them. So, I paid $25.10 for a major brake job. If that isn't a win I don't know what is.

That's a great price!

Have you had a brake flush within the past two years? If not, I'd get a brake flush and do so every 2 years, along with re-lubing all front brake hardware where applicable (slide pins, etc).

Hey thanks Zach! It's a bit more "local" than I thought it would be, neat. I thought it would be down by you all (?SC), and that would be a bit of a hassle.

Rims? I'm not a big fan of that style, I like the 6 spoke ones that look like 3 crossing triangles myself.

If I were to buy it, and was able to swap out the rims (I have my winter tires mounted on the 3 triangle type)- yeah you could have dibs to BUY the OEM rims...

A whole bunch of ifs though...

On topic-I cleaned and vacuumed my Pathfinder & the Audi. Someone on here (I think) had suggested using the pads from "swiffer" dust vac/mop to get the dust off the vinyl/plastic. Works really well.
