Don't take this as a personal dig, it's just a thought on my part but: I don't understand with today's gas prices why so many of you still run premium gas in your Pathy's/QX4's.
I've been running 87 Octane regular gas for years with no loss of mileage or performance.
Every once in a while, just to see if there is a difference, I'll run a tank of mid-range (89 Octane), and it runs the same.
The only thing I can think of is that here in Canada, we don't put Ethanol in the regular gas.
Now, there are some stations (Independents) that carry 10% ethanol gas as an option, but most of the "normal" gas stations don't have it.
BTW, I was in the states 2 weeks ago and noticed all regular gas was 10% ethanol. Is it mandated?
Maybe that makes a difference in performance?? Thoughts?
As for what I did today: I gave it a thorough wash and vacuum, and started to wax it, but it got too hot.
I'll have to finish later on a cooler day.
Cheers.

Well Canada is alittle different then FL. I know when it's really hot here, 95+*, I notice a huge difference in performance. Let me explain.......
I was filling up with regular gas. On the really hot days it would feel like something was wrong with the transmission. I would have to push the gas down alot farther then normal to accelerate. Something didn't feel right. The only way I could explain it was the transmission felt like it was in a higher gear then it was, like I was trying to accelerate in 3rd gear when I knew I was in 2nd. I started remembering all the factors in the equation and realized it only happened when it was really hot outside.
I finally put 2 and 2 together.
I realized it was because I was running regular gas. With 87 you'll have alot more detonation on hot days. When the ECU detects detonation, through the knock sensor, it'll retard timing. Reduced timing will feel EXACTLY like what I was experiencing. A large lack of performance. You'll need more throttle to accelerate because of the reduced timing.
I started filling up with 93 and I've never felt the problem again.
During the winter when the temp never gets above 75-80 I can run 89 or 87 without a problem. But with increased outside air temps I always run 93 because of this.
