Out of curiosity, how much do you pay for an oil change at the dealer?

Yeah, I was skeptical about the "massive" differences some others claimed. I did come across someone stating that the addition might be a potential safety hazard in a collision, as it might affect how the engine moves in a crash, but can't find that post on NPORA at the moment.

I use Mobil1 full synthetic and factory filter. Full price for oil/filter change, plus all the other checks like tire pressures, etc., comes to about $85.00 CDN.
Most other places charge closer to the $100.00 mark, plus the dealer doesn't hassle me with the constant sales pitches for transmission flushes, engine flushes, new wipers, coolant flushes, blah, blah, blah, that all those other quick lube places harass me with.
As for the safety hazard in a collision thing, duly noted. I don't plan my changes/modifications around what might or might not happen in a crash. I like to think it won't happen (I'm indestructible don't you know...lol).
So far so good.
Note: I also finished taking out the orange inserts on the front/side corner lights, so now both corners are clear.
I love the look, both in daytime and at night.
Cheers folks.

What is your typical oil change interval?

Here in the US, a similar oil change (5qt M1 5W-30 + Nissan OEM oil filter) can be purchased for $27 + $8-ish (way overpriced for a filter with mediocre construction IMO), and the dealer will perform an oil change for $30ish if you supply the oil/filter. So, $65 USD, which equals approximately $63 CDN at the time of this writing.

Your oil prices are quite a bit lower than ours. I travel in the U.S. a lot, and can get a quart of M1 at Wal-Mart for a lot less than what I pay here. I don't really understand why there is such a difference, given that the CDN-U.S. dollar is about the same.
Ditto for car prices. We pay a lot more for the same vehicles than you do. What peeves us off even more is that we pay thousands more for a car that's built in Canada.
It's cheaper to buy a Canadian made car in the U.S.. Go figure.
I change my oil every 6-7K Kms.

Finally had a free weekend to replace my steering transfer gear that I noticed leaking grease a few months ago. It wasn't too bad... I spent most of the time removing and installing plastic things so I can get to the gear. I'm always paranoid for the first few drives after doing suspension, brake, or steering work... I hate it.

Only snag is that I installed a bolt backwards (the one below, covered in grease). It's an issue because it's a lag bolt with vertical grooves in the lag... as soon as it got hard to turn, I freaked out because I thought I cross-threaded it. :ohno: I realized it was the lag digging into the threads; flipped the bolt around and it went in fine. The end of the bolt protrudes, I might pop a nut on just to be safe.

Yesterday, I went to run an errand and test out the steering, and at highway speed I was holding the wheel at a 15 degree angle to drive straight. I went back and confirmed all the marks I can find line up right when the wheels are straight, and they were.

Today I went back in and purposely mis-aligned the steering column, and took a quick test drive. Looks like it's off by just 3 degrees or so. Slightly noticeable, but not nearly as bad as it was before. Might tweak it again later today after the rad cools down. This is my first time playing with steering, so something was bound to be off a bit.

So I'm driving home yesterday, and about a block away from my house, I see steam coming from the engine, and then notice the temp gauge is at max. So I turn the AC off, barely make it home, and open the hood: turns out the upper radiator hose somehow cracked and sprayed everything with coolant.

Image

Had to borrow my gf's car to go to Pep Boys and get a new hose ($12.99), and a gallon of coolant ($12.99).
And that is what I did yesterday.

Programmed the Homelink transceiver, and fixed my power antenna. Now it goes all the way up and down, and I get my radio stations in clearly.

Now off to clean my gas cap area in hopes of getting rid of a pesky CEL.

Removed the white plastic air intake garbage behind fender liner. Hoping for a few more MPG's. Also reset my driver side window limit switch and got the airbag light to stay out.

This is my first non VW since 2001 and while at first the gas mileage was a big turnoff, Im really starting to enjoy this truck.

If you really want a writeup or something I can do that. I had a set of 4 lights on my roof awhile back and they were not that sturdy. Mounting them where they are now, they dont shake at all. Im not a fan of those bullbars, they just look bad to me.

You will like the opening clip to this...thats the day I broke my front axles

I would say so. I'm about to change mine and they've lasted about 18 months.

How are you guys wearing down pads so fast?

I just changed out my pads (Not due to wear, but due to warped rotors,-I changed pads for good measure) and they had over half of the material remaining.

The old pads came with the truck when I bought it in May of 2010 (2.5 years ago).

I drive about 15,000kms/year and live in an area with tons of hills.

You guys must be doing some crazy things...

Yeah, I changed pads and rotors and regreased wheel bearings in late February and the old pads and rotors still had some decent usable life on them... I think they were previously installed by Firestone at around 70k miles and I changed them at 131k miles. Of course, my mom was driving it until 109k so that might explain why it lasted so long. Florida ain't got no hills, either.

Cleaned and re-oiled the K&N air filter. I can never get it as clean as I want. But it's never caused me any problems. Definetely saved me a few bucks over the years.

Had a new windshield installed this morning.
About a month ago it got hit by a rock that flew up from a dump truck while I was on the freeway.
Started as a chip, and quickly spread into three directions like a spiders' legs.
The longest crack was about 18" long, and growing.
Had to pay for it myself 'cause my deductible is higher than the cost of the new windshield.
It's nice and clear though, compared to the old one, so that's good.

I average about 450+ miles a week. I put ceramic on this time. then again my freind has a 2010 escape he got new and we drive the same route and he is on his original pads... he has 45,000 on the car now haha
