hahaha yeah seriously, i'd have no problem ripping your s14 apart. mostly because it isnt mine so i dont care if it runs

it'll def fire up though, nothing has been messed with that would cause it not to work

looks good dude i still gotta get out to see this... are you going to be working on it monday or tuesday morning?

i work in the afternoons but no class cuz of break

stupid noob question, do u have to pull the gas tank to pull the subframe?

im lookin to clean it up this winter along with the wheel wells and take care of some rust but id rather not pull the tank if i dont have to, but i guess i might as well if im gonna be repainting everything....

everythings looking good jeff. so when is the eta for this car to be on the road? hopefully by next spring/summer because it will probably be the last time i'll be in PA with my car.

oh yea, took my car back to the track today. finally pulled off a 1.9 60' and i hit a 12.7 @ 109 mph on my street tires. i'm pretty sure there is at least a 12.5 run left in the car, but this will probably be my last time at the track for this year. by next year, i'll probably have the t28 in so i guess i'll never know, haha.

I'm going to do my domelight today, then the other 3 markers then the taillights. Let me know, man. Here is the stock marker.

Here is my LED marker (which isn't bright at all, its only 6000mcd. I ordered 20000mcd LEDs and I'm getting them today.)

OEM front compared to LED rear.

^ damn, looking good. i'll have to check it out in person.

little update-

well i got a little more work done. i had to meet with my college adviser so that took a little time. i picked up new diff plugsand painted them along with the rest of the hardwareas well as my vlsd diff cover

i then got into the fun that is disassembling to diffs and putting the vlsd gearing into the other housing. heres the set up i had before i started ripping things apartafter i had everything apart, i brought over my other diff and took that apart as well. i installed new output shaft seals and put in the gearing with the shims in the proper locations.

^ with the new gearing in. i took the wire wheel to the output shafts and removed the rust before painting them.i knocked the output shafts back in and everything went together surprisingly quickly. for now i just bolted on the old diff cover that way i can pressure wash and paint the diff housing without getting water in the housing or paint on the new cover. this morning i picked up the new diff cover gasket and royal purple 75w90. i would have cleaned up the housing today and painted it but i had a work meeting this morning and i have to work in a few hours, so i didnt think it was worth it to try and make progress in the 2 free hours i have today. i hope to have more free time coming up so i can make some huge updates.

i did however get the tension rods finished up. heres the new bushings compared to the oldfirst one donei just used the bench vise and squeezed the bushings in, actually my brother did while i was doing who knows what heres both of them finished and ready to be installedi work all day monday, so i wont be able to update again til tuesday at the earliest.

here for your enjoyment is a random pic of my factory service manual, just to make you all jealous i got it for $20 hopefully this'll hold you off til i get a more in depth update

i got off work a few hours early yesterday, so i made a little progress.i got the wife to pressure wash, clean and sand down the rear diffmeanwhile, i took all the hardware that holds on the rear diff cover and wire wheeled it cleanand heres the finished result

i did the same thing with the bolts that hold the rear calipers to the knuckleand of course everything got sprayed blacknext we moved the rear subframe closer to the garage so the air ratchet can reach to remove teh rear arms. it was a pita to move.it started to slide off Vbut we got it under controlhere it is ready to be worked on

i have off the whole day today and im about to head over to get some work done. kinda random but this came for me yesterdayit an s14 speed sensor

good man, im glad it got to you finally

little update-i want soo badly to be done with the rear sub frame, but i cant bring myself to cut corners on it so its slow going. especially wire wheeling everything down to metal like i did with the tension rods.

basically i started off by removing all the control arms and bars from the rear sub frameas you can see theres some minor surface rust to it, but its in really good shape for the most parti still havent disassembled the hubs and rear lower control arms

next i removed and labeled all the hardware so i could clean it up and paint it and still know what goes wherei then took the rear diff that had been cleaned up and sprayed it with a rust inhibiting primerwhile i was getting some of that stuff done, the arms where at a local metal shop (the same one i used for the tension rods) getting the bushings pressed outafter wire wheeling it all, everything ended up looking pretty much like this i then hung each arm and starting coating everything in my go to color, you guessed it semi gloss black.i still have one more arm to clean up and paint but the other 3 just need to dry.

after drying all night i started painting the diff in light coats til it was fully coveredat this point my camera died. i'll update more and finish the sub frame next time. i did start making some progress on removing the sub frame bushing through use of fire and hole saw. you'll just have to wait for the pics

This build thread reminds me of a comic book...

Everything has a picture, and then each picture has it's own narriration.

hahaha if anyone on here would do a comic book build thread you know it'd be me

and greeneyes yeah im excited to see how clean it'll be, you can take a look at teh other cars rear subframe but when i checked it out it was pretty bad. do you think it'd be worth it to drop the front subframe as well? im probably gonig to do that next

edit- i almost forgot, they charged $25 to remove the tension rod bushings and the 4 rear arms. i still need to do the rear lower control arms and the hub knuckles

Sorry to hear about your 240's mishap... But it's awesome to see how your type-X conversion's taking shape! I'm in the process of converting my '90 240sx fastback to a type-X. The only gripe I have about the conversion is having to buy each type-X item piece by piece; Front, side, rear, tail lights, interior and so on. Judging by your type-X build pics it's ALL well worth it!

Thanks for the inspiration... good luck on your project(s)!

thanks for teh props nostalGic_RPS13, im glad your enjoying it. and yeah its def worth the trouble to gather all the pieces.

keegan, sounds good let me know what day your free. im def down to work on another car for a change. mines pissing me off a little. nothing serious but the bushing install makes me want to punch a baby

heres a little update you asked for joshgot my diff completely finished up, the housing was given its final coat of semi gloss black and the diff cover was installed with new felpro gasket and then filled with royal purple gear oil. imo it looks really good with alum colored cover and black hardware

i started installing the bushings for the rear as well but they didnt want to go in at all and they were really pissing me off so i gave it a break to tackle something else. this is the only bushing i got in after hours of trying

i got frustrated with the rear sub frame bushings as well. i spent about an hour getting 1 rubber bushing out and thats not including the metal ring that needs to come out too. so i got tired of that too and dropped it off at a machine shop for them to see if they can push em out. heres pics of the progress i made with it thoughand hear im trying to burn the rest of the rubber out, it didnt really do the job though

next, i moved onto the rear wheel wells. i found theres a spot that commonly rusts the seam out and leaves a gap. i got out all thee loose debris and filed everything out and caulked it shut, heres the caulking and before pics of teh wheel wellheres the scrubbed down and sanded pics of the pass side

heres the pass side semi cleaned up, still needs some work though

heres 2 coats on the pass side, pretty much done

and some bonus pics of my new "cat"

i left for teh night with the sohc temp sensor soaking in evaporust. im heading over right now so we'll see how it looks after soaking all night

very small update since i had to work today.i went over and the evaporust worked very nicely especially considering the pipe was very rusted. i removed the sensor to let both parts soak apart from each other and threw in some hardware as well to see how it'll work.i didnt have enough time to get into any big or involved projects so i worked on the interior a little. its tedious but worth it to tape over the glass o the visors and lenses on the map light. i wanted everything sprayed and matching nicely so i taped off and cut the exact out line with a knifeand now everything's matchinglike i said minor update indeed, i'll try to get more done but the rest of this week im worknig a good bit so i cant promise anything
