how do you like the light up key ring? I want one for my s14 but idk if it will work.

thanks for the pics man, i appreciate it. I've been wanting to do a straight canister type exhaust like yours but I could never find anyone that has even done it or had any pics at least.

thanks, glad you like it. i'm pretty pleased with it. i havent messed with the lit king ring sicne i dont have a bulb for it yet. i'm gonna order a bunch of leds for the cluster and key ring and other stuff.

keegan stopped by the other night to wrap up the alarm and a few homeless wires. so now everything is pretty much good to go and i'm just wrapping everything up for good, except i ran out of e tape

heres the harness that goes from the ecu to the dash

i removed everything i didn't need and instead of cutting, depinned what wasnt being used

finished product

and just as a refernece for those just venturing into the world of wiring, if you're solder joints don't look like this you're doing it wrong

i'm picking up more tape and finishing it up, but i did nothing today

not a prob, this might be helpful to a couple people. the way keegan showed me does it perfect everytime. after you twist the wire ends together, hold the tip of the gun on the underside of the wire. after a little time ( the thicker the wire, the longer it takes) the soldering gun will heat the whole thing. hold your solder on top and the heat will pull it down through the wire, permitting the solder to penetrate inside between the strands and not just coat the outside. this gives the strongest bond and as a bonus you don't get a bulge from a blob of solder on the outside

when i first started i used to melt the flux wire and drip it on the wire and that didn't really hold anything and looked like crap.

i like to kind of hold the wire with my soldering gun and push down on the top of the wire with the flux. AFter a while the wire will get hot enough and the flux will begin to melt and look like it's getting sucked in the wire. That is a beautiful sight lol

i used heat shrink on a lot of the big stuff but its almost impossible and not worth it to do on every little thing

Bumnah's just being a jerk, you fine with tape lol.

That solder joint is too long, and probably not hot enough. Maybe it was my fail, probably attributed to my $15 solder iron.Great to know everything wiring wise is finally finished since you maybe didn't know how to finish it yourself or you would have done it weeks ago lol.

yeah the wiring is now taken care of with keegan's help. theres still one little plug that doesnt have a home but it's unimportant. everything else was traced down easily, the biggest thing was i had no idea on the alarm, and i didnt even want to attempt it since it was already half way done

heres a quick update before i run over to work on the car. as you can tell from the teaser pic, the ic piping is done. since my last couplers and clamps came in i was able to mock up and finish the lower section of the cold pipe. as you can see, its just a 90 degree bend that i trimmed and painted

and i gave the hot pipe side one last coat as well

i took another pic of a good solder joint just cuz i think the last pic is a little blurry

i wired up the last few wires on the pass side then started mounting things like the ecu. i unbolted it cuz i didnt like the harness coming in front of the dash bar, so i unbolted the dash bar and slipped the harness behind it

here you can see the harness behind the dash bar

redid the cluster subharness since i had it unwrapped

and heres more finished ic shots

i decided that the tt will live in the glove box this time so i extended the wiring for that

and everything on the driver side is getting mounted, or at least getting figured out where its going

heading over to work on it now and i hope to have all the wiring mounted and secured today

heres more of an update once again. the headlights are finally working like they should be, thanks to mge showing me up. i made a newb mistake and didn't bother to bolt down some of the grounds since they went to "unrelated" things, but of course it's all part of the same electrical system so nothing is really unrelated. after hooking up every single ground the headlights are working perfectly, and i'm pretty sure i know exactly which ground was the culprit. next up we took a look at the headlight subharness and this would explain why 2 of my 3 subharnesses adon't workso i went a picked up one of those plugs from advanced.

earlier in the day i picked up some stubby wrenches so i could tighten the nuts for the manifold. i then got the turbo back on and the rest of the hot pipe as well.

i also realized that i need a vac nipple coming off the intake pipe for the catch can. since my cs catch can comes with 2 diff sizes of nipples i decided to take one of the smaller ones and cut it and have it welded onto the intake pipe. then that will go to the other small nipple on the can and the other side will have the large nipple going to the vc. well i had this whole idea at like 4:45 and the local amish shop that does my machine work (i'm not set up to weld aluminum) closes at around 4:30 and 5. i got there just before 5 hoping that someone would still be there to give the project to and then i figured they could do it tomorrow. well they welded it for me while i waited for $5, gotta love the amish.

Really good update man. It's nice to see it finally rounding the final corner.

Too bad it took really long, but at least everything is as perfect as you can make it, so for that I commend you greatly. Miles ahead of your last shell.

i'm only a few minutes of work away from it firing up. just have to connect the last turbo line. well actually it'll probably be more then a few minutes, it's fought the whole way so far

its vht brand and it says flame proof on it, its a high heat dissipating ceramic paint. as for my car swimming with the fishes, sorry but its too close and i have confidence in the engine harness since all other wiring from the tuck has been flawless

i have more pics that i haven't uploaded yet but will soon but i'm working on a write up right now since i have nothing better to do then wait around at 5:30 in the morning
