I agree, it might not have been an ideal deal, but it looks like we pay more in LA and NY. From emdunds, the invoice would be 16.4k, and the "real world" price would be the actual MSRP of 17.1k. Paying invoice in my neighborhood would then mean paying 18k out the door. I am sure some dealers have good hold-backs or even incentive (although they claim not to on this particular car). The volume of sales of the dealership also makes a difference. But more importantly it's probably also a question of whether they can get money back from Nissan if they sell the predicted number of cars within a given period of time. The dealer I bought from might have been one of the few that did not sell its SL right away, and may have gone passed that period. In which case he has to sell over invoice to make some money. The way I look at it, I may have overpaid by 1000$ if invoice was a possibility, but I think invoice was a pretty hard sale to get around here. More power to the ones who do get it, or even go below. If you look at the 50 or so prices advertised on this forum, the location matters a lot, and it looks like S model do not get such attractive prices compared to the better deals on SL models. Also, I'm reassuring mysefl by thinking that most people read specialized forums are in the upper spectrum of "good" buyers, and the ones that feel compelled to post are even more likely to have had a good deal and feel good enough to post (brag? ) about it. It is, however, a very useful exercise for consumers, and I'll even refer to these posts if I ever haggle again over a versa in the future.
Perhaps a bit off topic: it seemed ridiculous to me that the 250$ ABS package was impossible to get on the CP version of the SL. Some people (dealers) even thought it was included in the CP. In canada it looks like they get ABS on every SL. So it can't be some weird factory incompatibility between, say, bluetooth and ABS technology. So, why is it so? And is there anyhope to have it installed after the fact ?( I know after market ABS are usually terrible, but if Nissan provided the option, maybe it could be done) Is it as simple as having an electronic controller "inserted" where it needs to be?
