1.8 SL w/CVT convenience pack and floormats. Magnetic gray/charcoal. Love the blue/black weave of the fabric. Love the inteligent key. Not happy with the mileage (25-26 mpg).

Bought it 7/19 from Jordan Nissan in Ames IA. I was there to buy a 1.8 S w/6MT and the truck rolled up with the SL on it. Once I drove the CVT, there was no comparison.

Bought my Versa about 10 days ago while in Las Vegas and love it so far. ... white 2007 SL, 6 spd MT with beige interior, convenience package, mats and flaps. All highway driving and so far 33.86 mpg is average. Defieintly beats my 2003 F350 which averages 16.8 mpg and my 1993 Nissan SEV6 pickup which averages 20 mpg. Love the Versa ... paid $15,372, with tags, fees and tax came out to $17,000 even.

I pick mine up Tuesday here in western NC, coming in from another dealer. I am a bit worried about the comments here on mileage. I'm replacing my 1996 Probe. It was listed as 27mpg hwy, and it's averaged about 35mpg over its 240,000 miles. I sure hope the Versa does as well!

here's the story:

I'm 20 years old and just got myself a great new job, but it's one that requires a hell of a lot of driving (sometimes up to 200 miles a day!) My 91 volvo can't handle that kind of strain, so after a bit of shopping around i settled on the versa.

Fast forward through time and here I am now, planning on signing the papers for the only versa I can find tomorrow evening. The problem is, I feel like I'm settling. Ideally I would love to get a basic SL, magnetic grey with CVT and beige interior. Unfortunately, I just can't find any of those cars around without having to wait for a few months (which I just can't do) What I'm settling with is a silver S with the power package and that's about it. Sure it's cheaper, but should I try and hold out? Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried the "radius" trick? Go to NissanUsa.com, and configure the car you're looking for, then input your zip code. if you don't find the car you're looking for, input the zip codes for about 40 miles north, east, south, and west, so you get a different set of dealers each time. This will allow you to check if there's something a little farther away that matches what you want.

Repeat until you either find the car you want, or you exceed the distance you'd be willing to drive to get a car.

Don't rely on a dealer to do this for you. They want to make sure you buy the car from THEM, and many dealers are not doing dealer trades on Versas because they're so popular right now. Ergo, your dealer will not tell you if there is one around, because you'd probably have to go to their rival dealer to buy it.

Edit: A quick search that I just did found 2 SL CVT's within 15 miles, one is a very close match to what you're looking for (Silver instead of Gray)

So yeah, spend some time on the Nissan site, and have a phone next to you.

Edit 2: Oh yeah, according to the Nissan website, you can't get a beige interior with Magnetic Gray.

Like what was said by Ever Victorious, go to Nissan's website and search for a car yourself. That is how I got mine and I got it from a dealer who had told another dealer I was working with that they didn't have any! When I got there, they had 3 Versas in stock!! The one exactly like I wanted was there and they held it for me for the couple of hours it took to get there. So yes, if you are like me, don't settle for just anything. Get the one you want so that you will be happy with it. It is especially important since you are going to be in it a lot. Good luck.

I didn't check in yet but I just got a Versa S at sticker price. This comes with floor mats and power package. I also ordered tint and fog lights at 255 apiece. Total comes down to $14,400, out the door, with license and taxes, is 15,753.75.

First full tank went for 26 mpg, but I drive at around 75 mph so there's room for MY improvement.

I didn't wait for an SL but I should have. Why:

1) Seating is much better with the woven cloth2) Cruise control not an option in S3) No magwheels4) No aux input5) No map light

But I'm OK with it. I have about $2k to spend, but no financing here, but with some good shopping (I got car for list, which sucks, but in retrospect I think the demand is high with the SLs, and low on the S's - so there should be room to haggle with the Versa S- especially the ones that comes with no power package- one's been sitting on the lot for 2 weeks at least), I should get plenty of bang for it: I'll add: leather wrap on steering, waterproof seat covers form Wet Okole, autodimming rearview mirrors (with maplight, compass, and outside temperature) from Gentex, and from Crutchfield I'll get a doubledin stereo such as the Clarion DFZ675MC.

That should keep me happy with the S. I don't think I'd bother with upgrading it with cruise control.

BTW, I'm going to stretch that $2k. So if anyone wants to sell their stock SL stereo, and their stock SL mags, let me know. In the off-chance you want to sell your stock cruise control steering wheel, I may also find that hard to resist

Hi,I'd like to mention that Versa is still rare here in BC, CAN. I think i got the first one of the first shipment in late August. mine is a CVT 1.8 SL no tech pack. Cost me very close to $23,000 out the door. Is that too expensive? The car is so far so good. Im still on the first tank of gas which is at half reading at around 275 km. not sure if that is good. let me know if that is good/bad. I drive around city with the stop/go traffic. We have fiancing/leasing option but has to be at $18,000 you loan. I've purchased weather floor mats for my car. I'm about to wax it as i already see scratches on the back. i think is from nails scratching from lifting the back or from falling leaves/branches.

It does sound a bit high, but the rarity of the car in your area would explain that. It's not so high that I'd feel bad about the purchase.

I posted above about mine coming in on Tuesday. On Monday I got a call that the car had been "sold out from under them", but they could get me a similar one but with the charcoal interior and added floor mats and wheel locks. So that's what I got, and it came in Wednesday. (White/SL/CVT)

I'm happy with it so far, and it was at 235 miles when the gas gauge showed 1/2 a tank. Of course, my daughter says I "drive like a grandpa" so I haven't been pushing it. The strangest thing is watching the speedometer go up and the tachometer come down at the same time!

We bought our Nissan Versa Tuesday. I'd been reading this message board for over a week while we tried to decide.

It's a Magnetic Gray, CVT, base. We would have loved to have had the blue tooth and the sunroof, but I have a feeling these cars are only going to go up in price once people find out how great they are.

Effort,

Ironically, I wanted the Silver, but "settled" for the Magnetic Gray. I also wanted Blue Tooth, and ABS brakes, but there aren't any out there. We'd have to special order it, which of course would increase the price. If we were going to do that, we figured we'd just buy the Civic.

The Pontiac salesman told us that the "smoker's package" in new cars costs extra now. We had a great deal on a Vibe going, and turned it down to buy the Versa.

Most new car buyers don't smoke, but we all have cell phones, so they only make the cell phone port.

Owned my Versa about 3 weeks now. Bought SL 6 sp in silver with tech package for the list price (15.9k)

All in all, I'm thrilled to have the new car but I'm not happy overall with its shortcomings. I don't like the noise from the engine or shifter. The stereo is inadequate (not loud enough) and I don't see an $$ easy way to improve it since I'm set on using the bluetooth functionality. Would rather have had antilocks but that was not available. But my top two gripes are the lower than expected fuel economy and the choppy rear suspension. I don't mind the city mileage but so far on two mostly interstate trips I've averaged under 30 MPG. I don't feel that manual transmission sport appeal is an adequate tradeoff for the engine noise and poor mileage. Finally, the rear suspension has a hard time staying seated on the road, which I find most common on bumpy entrance ramps. It's otherise a solid car but the suspension leads to loud thumps in the cabin.

It's a love hate relationship. I love the interior, the exterior, the seats and of course the space. I was sold on the pricetag.

Given a second chance I would have purchased a Fit or a more expensive car and swallowed the cost for more confident road manners and a quieter ride.

That's it, I'm stuffing the next person that complains about the head unit into a Kia and making them suffer through THAT crappy stereo.

Seriously... not loud enough? My stock SL head unit can give me a freaking migrane if I turn it up past oh, 22.

Is this your first new car or do you actually have something to compare to? Because honestly you don't seem to pay attention to the price of the overall package

Every review and test drive I've seen, read, or heard puts the Versa above the Fit for road manners, not the other way around. The Versa is almost universally lauded as well poised and confident.

If the rear suspension is causing noises in the cabin, there may be something wrong that needs to be repaired. This is the first complaint I've seen of suspension noise, so I would guess it's probably not a model-wide thing, but something wrong with your particular Versa. That means it can be fixed. Talk to your dealer about it and see what they say.

It's not noise (like clatter) it's just noise due to the fact that the entire rear of the car is jarred off the road. I literrally lose traction whenever i hit a significant bump off an exit ramp. Mind you I'm not going slow.

This is my first new car and I'm comparing it to an older Camry I used to have. I guess I'm used to the coddled feeling of much heavier car with fully indpendent suspension, albeit one with a simlar wheelbase.

I really want to like my Versa, and I'm sure it's probably the best value on the road if size is factored it. I'm just disappointed overall because it feels so restrictive.

- I need to shift up to quiet the engine but I run out of room at about 65 in 6th gear.- The gas mileage on the interstate makes me hesitate to take the freeway sometimes.- I can feel the larger potholes in my back and the whole cabin shudders.- The stereo is OK but it does not produce base comparable to 6x9s over a rear trunk-enclosure and I don't know how to improve it. I'm stuck with the head and can't afford the factory sub and don't want an enclosure in my hatch.

I find myself staring at 2007 Camry owners with envy knowing that they don't suffer any of these problems. Perhaps once one hits a certain age, one should only buy super-refined family sedans.

God I love that interior though!

OK, most of the highways near me are torn up and patched pretty badly right now, and my suspension does NOT do what you described. Take it in and get it fixed, there's got to be something wrong.

I agree my car handles very badly on the exit ramp where there is a crack/patch in the road. The reason this happens is the rear end is a "solid" one, Your camry was I am sure an independent rear suspension. I am also having a little withdrawl symptoms from my Audi A4.

Post

Hi all,

Just had the opportunity to buy a versa sl cvt in magnetic gray. It has the guards, mats and convenience package. It has therefore a 17125$ MSRP from nissan. We managed to bring down the sticker price to 17200$ After sales taxes, license/registration and title, it added up to 19000$ out the door. I was wondering if we got a good deal: I see so many people on this website reporting 17500$ "out the door" for similar configurations. Am I missing something or are people reporting their price before sales tax and miscellaneous official fees?

thanks for letting me know,

e.

PS: it was very hard to get by a SL in the entire LA basin

I got the exact same equipment, only mine was white. My "out the door" price was $17,200. Just to clarify, that was tax, tags, title and all other associated fees. It appears you got took but being in California, who knows. I am confused about one thing. You state that the sticker was $17125 but you got them DOWN to $17,200, please explain that math! They evidently added a bunch of dealer crap to the MSRP. Our tax rate out here in NC is cheaper so I can't tell you what exactly you should have paid, but it sounds too high to me. But, you have it now, just enjoy it and forget about it.

The white one was available for 200$ below MSRP before taxes and fees. My math is fine: I stated that this equipment carries a Nissan MSRP of 17125$ The MSRP is obviously from NIssan, not the dealer. The sticker price was above MSRP as is often the case for such cars, in fact up to 3000$ above MSRP at some dealerships in the area (!!!), 2000$ at others, but I went 100 miles around my spot (roughly 15 dealers). Getting it for 17200$ was in essence, getting it for MSRP (75$ above). Of course that has to be before taxes and fees which add up to about 10%. I cannot believe people convince dealers to let them go for MSRP out the door: in our case leaving out the door for MSRP would mean having dropped the sticker price from 19000 to 15500!! I want to believe it, but I seriously doubt that many people manage to leave with a sticker price of 15500 on a car whose MSRP is 17125. In fact, 15500 would almost certainly have to be below invoice. Correct me if I'm wrong.

e.
