You bet! Someday fairly soon, I indeed plan to do so! I moved here in 1989 from New England and expect to move back to the East Coast within the next few years.

The high sales and income taxes, earthquakes, socialist Senators, useless politicians running the State, plastic people, lousy highways (including new ones ... like 87 in the Bay Area that was so poorly built that it had bone-jarring bumps the day it opened), etc., etc., etc., will be left behind for sure.

And, I will not regret it in the least.

I enjoyed the time I spent in San Diego and I still want to drive up the coast with my family packed into some sort of convertible...like an old Eldo or something. Then I'd leave the state shortly there after

CARB sucks...CARB alone and the BS bureaucracy that surrounds it is enough to make the entire state suck a**.

I have no problems with hippies, tree huggers or the Libbie's telling me how to live. Just so long as they stay in CA

Every state has something that sucks about it. Defending something you love is admirable Especially when you're wrong

The problems I described are the same in the Los Angeles and San Diego and other areas too (although some of the more rural areas probably don't have the plastic people problem) ...

But, you can't get away from the politics anywhere in the state.

I don't remember the last time I've felt an earthquake to be honest. MAYBE I felt a tremor last year. And the only potholes I've encountered were the ones up in the Ventura Oxnard area.

Every state has "useless" and "socialist" politicians. The freeways really are AMAZING here actually. You can get anywhere via the freeways, since there are A BUNCH of highways that you can use to get where you want to go.

The only problem here is that there are TOO MANY PEOPLE in this state. Like I said before, I hope this recession makes people end up leaving in the millions and just vacation here so the rest of us can enjoy the "glitter of gold" that the Golden State has to offer.

I hope you know we're just clownin' you on the state.

But I gotta disagree STRONGLY on the freeway thing...

The 10 from about Rancho to LA is a washboard. The 405 is RIDDLED with potholes in places, and the 5 south of Anaheim is a mess as well.

Seriously, in aplace with weather as beautiful as CA has, there's no excuse for highways to be in disrepair.

I visited Vista recently, it was gorgeous.

Come out to AZ and drive the US60, the loop 101, 202, the 10 or the 17... We're using the reconstituted rubber and it's AMAZING. Quiet, smooth, grippy... DPS hates it because traffic routinely runs 80-90mph on AVERAGE.

LOL. Yeah, when I call you guys out on vacationing here, all of a sudden you were " just clownin'".

I visit my brother in Ontario a few times a month. I take the ten and I've never seen/hit a pothole on the ten.

On the 405 and 5, I think you may be exaggerating the quantity of potholes. Have you ever used the 2? the 110? the 101? the 10 all the way to santa monica? 0 potholes that I've encountered on those freeways.

Although, the 60 freeway is something else. It gets pretty bumpy on that freeway. But its to be expected on there since its frequently used by truckers.

Still, you can't refute that, despite the poor condition of the freeways that you claim, the freeways were built to take you ANYWHERE in the state. Its not like other states where there are only a few options, the freeways here are ubiquitous.

Guess we should look into moving to the utopia that is Cali. Why, where I live there is no sunlight year round, there is snow on the ground year round, temps never get higher than -10, all roads are gravel or we just jump in our pickups or General Lee replica's and drive the dirt ones, women are all fat/ugly cows and the only events we have are KKK/anti-abortion/anti-****/anti-black/anti-mexican rally's or monster truck events, Otherwise we sit around and clean our guns while taking time out to read and preach the bible to everyone.

Man, it's rough here. You are just so lucky to have the privilege of living in the beacon of socialist democracy. Can you send me a picture of your wild unicorns cuz I have never seen one.

I vacation everywhere.

The kids dig Sea World and the beach. Thank God the beach is free, because I don't like dumping money into the Dispos-All of the American economy.

Seriously, though - You'd think the freeways would be better.

I like the quantity of multidirectional freeways, which makes me wonder why, when we do an event in SoCal, everyone whines that it's "too far" from them. Seems to be a SoCal thing, because when we do an event anywhere else, people drive from wherever to be there....

Yeah, I'd concede that there are freeways that need the attention of the DOT more than others. Especially the ones up north.

I've been trying to plan a trip, actually, and CA is involved.

Bex and I want to ship the Roadster to the Bay area (or even further north)... Fly out and drive it down the coast to SD and then home.

Wanting to hit Solvang, Carmel, etc and really take our time seeing the coastline. What better way to do it than in a classic droptop Datsun?

For the price of shipping and the tickets, wouldn't it be nicer and cheaper to drop down to Highway 8 from where you are, cruise to San Diego and go up the coast? Up north you could make your decision as to the route back (Highway 1, 101, or 5) and take the 10 east back home.

Possibly.

But coming back down to the 10 doesn't appeal to me much...

In a sailboat.

But there's a skillset involved with that that most people don't have, and that goes double for you desert dwelling bedouins.

Not all parts of cali even require ANY smog tests, and we have some of the easiest laws of any state for home built and highly modified vehichles (I don't mean just highly modified engines)

Sounds like it sucks quite a bit where you live huh? Where I grew up it never got any colder then 60 or warmer then 80, we had snow boarding an hour away, hiking 10 minutes away, rural cities with large farms 10 minutes away, lakes about 2 hours away, as much city nightlife as you could ever want an hour away, many many amazing beaches and islands, low crime rates and high average income. Were right next to some of the countries largest industrial centers for all the manufacturing/machining/ect you could ever need. We have a thriving car community with one of the largest use parts markets in the country multiple famous race tracks and some of the finest women in the country.

Hey but at least you can punch your cat out right?

People leaving over the past few years? f*** yeah, because they can't afford it and almost for NO other reason. Real estate here is not cheap BECAUSE so many people want to live here, and because we have to money to pay what people from the smaller states can't. I have known plenty of people who have spent some good time living here, then had to go... All of them wished they didn't have to but money said different.

Seriously Matt, grow the f*** up. Your so desperate to hate something you have no experience with its pathetic.

You b**** an moan about something you don't have to have anything to deal with. Tired of your state picking up our laws? I am sorry your state will not listen to you and feels the need to follow our direction. Not our fault, if your that pissed off about what your state chooses to do your more then welcome to find one that doesn't follow our lead.

Well, I am an old man and living in California, so I think I can fault "my" current state for its problems. When I someday do leave for better parts of the country, I will still comment on its own problems, but not because of other local government issues!

Don't worry, with the new Obama health care system it will only be a few years before they send me to counseling in preparation to die as I will no longer be wanted in society as the bills will be too much.
