Yeah, I know that a bad turbine seal on the exhaust seal wouldn't cause fouled plugs, but what if my rings weren't seated, plus the seal in the turbo went bad? It's a brand new turbo although it is a cheap Chinese turbo.I just thought it should last till this summer.

Ok, i'll have a shot at it lol: When you rev it up does it immediatley puff out a cloud of blue smoke? Or does it have a continuous chugging of smoke? I think that if its puffing out the cloud then it's your rings because they can't really seal themselves with the extra throttle applied. I'm not sure tho, just thinkin'

Like eazye2000 said, pull off the hot pipe and see if there is oil residue in the turbine side, with the way it's smoking, the turbine should be leaking like siv if its the turbo seal. Also I don't think bad rings OR a bad seal would foul plugs out just a rich mixture right?

Yeah man. If it was a turbo seal, it would chug like a train with the smoke. But then again, when you rev it up, you make oil pressure, so maybe it could leak then?.. lol This thinking sucks..

It's just a few bolts man. Take a few pipes off and check the turbo. I'll brainstorm a little more and come back.

Are you sure you oil drain is good? Whats your setup as far as that goes? If your oil drain isnt 100 percent, oil could be backing up and being pushed through the seals and into the exhaust turbine.

Your turbo is definitely the cause of that smoke, thats oil smoke for sure. I had an XS power turbo that did the exact same thing that your turbo probably did. The KA has a hell of an oil pump, i see 60-70 psi under load. This is way to much for a crap turbo, apparently lol.

I bought a Garrett and after i burnt the oil out of my DP (lol) it stoped smoking.

Im sayen you K.Od your turbo seals though from the looks of it. Your engine is fine, you didnt blow anything.

well pewp! What is the easiest way to tell if the oil is coming through the cylinders or just the turbo?

Well.. A compression check will tell you if you have blown ringlands, and your car would run like crap.. Since your compression check is fine, and your car is running well, it narrows it down.

Your bottom end is fine, with those numbers there is no freaken way youv blown your ringlands. Your rings might be a little worn, thats why adding oil to the top of the cylinders got your compression back up. If your ring lands were cracked or broken, adding oil to the top of the piston would have done nothing.

Also, even if he were to check his hotpipe and there not be oil there, that doesnt prove that his seals havnt blown. It seems to me that the seal on the turbine side blows first with the cheap turbos.

Seriously though, whats your oil drain setup?

Thanks for the help/info.I guess I'll be getting another turbo.Lucky for me I know a guy whose family builds turbos. Mostly big truck stuff. When I was at his shop, it was nothing but wall to wall turbos. Garret, HKS, Turbonetics etc. But I need to find a way to size them, because they don't know them the same as we do, like t-25/t-28, or t-3/t-4. So I need to find out how to size them for our type of applications.Oil drain is 3/8" hose.

^I agree w/ 480sx but I'm not worried about your oil drain really, mine's a 3/8" heater hose and works fine it's the pressure from the oil feed and gravity is what will force the oil back in the pan. Unless you have some pretzel of an oil drain line.

This is probably a stupid question lol, but when you said you added oil on top of the piston, did you literally do that? Cuz this maybe why it's smoking and still trying to burn off the excess oil.

This is actually good news imo, a turbo is easier and faster to replace than it is to rebuild an engine..zippy you could actually just look into getting a used sr20 t-25, they are probably more reliable than a new chinese t25 anyway lol..

I'm checking on getting another turbo but I'm going to check with the company I bought the turbo from to get a replacment to sell. And I added only a small amount of oil to the cylinder maybe a tea spoon.

Yea, I dunno about the oil drain. Mine goes straight down, but angled towards the back of the car to go around the motor mount. Then, it goes forward to the pan hole. Then it takes a sharp *90 towards the passenger side to go into the oil pan. I've never had a problem with oil drainage, or smoke. And my car runs 12's.. Some people said that the G Forces going backwards wouldn't let my turbo drain 'forward' like it's set up to be. But (knocks on wood) no problems yet.Just some food for thought. Dunno if that helps, but that's my experience. My turbo is a GT2860RS .86 dual ball bearing turbo. Real Garrett.

Ok, here's a picture for reference. Dunno if it helps, but here it is anyways, so Oh, and this was when I slapped the turbo on the car before rebuilding it. That's why it's kinda nastay...

that last pic of the oil drain is very low... you want it as close to the top edge of the oil pan as possible.

heres how mine is:

My oil drain is high up on the pan, right under the lip of the pan, and as far back as I could get it and still be in the deepest part of the pan. But I will check it to be sure, but I'm like 99% sure it's the seal in the turbo. I called the company I got the turbo from and they will warranty it.

Wow EZ you have a wild drain.. The only reason that thing hasnt given you problems is because youv got a BB turbo with a restrictor. I cant believe that works. If you havnt had any problems yet and you'v had a few track runs you should be fine but still.. Better stick with a BB turbo or your gona have problems!

Zip, thats awesome that they are going to warranty it, i thought it was a chinese turbo? If you run the same brand of turbo i would say you should run a .63 restrictor just to make sure that doesnt happen again. You can pick one up from McMaster for like 10 bucks shipped.

i don't think so, think about the oil feed pressure forcing the oil through to the pan. I'd say there's no way the oil can back up to the turbo especially when there is gravity helping the oil flow down.

well zippy, I hope you cash out on a replacement turbo and I hope that a different turbo will solve it

I had a .63 restrictor and took it out. Apparently that was wrong.lolI hope to get a better turbo to run and sell the replacement on the bay. But if I have to run the cheapie, then I will definitely run the oil restrictor.I would like to get a t-28 to run at stock boost until I build the engine this summer.

I think the company is going to give me some BS about the warranty, there is a form to be filled out, and I think it will have something on there about "Must be installed by a professional in order to honor warranty."But we will see.

Find someone at a local shop that will forge a reciept for you and cover for you if they try to call and follow up about a pro installing it...

other than that just say your a pro and they should trust you

usualy if you ***** enough with any warranty it will get resolved...

the squeeky wheel gets the greese!!!

You know, I never thought anyone else would say that. I've always thought that to myself. And now that you mention it, I will say something to back us both up. And I will start taking pictures from here on out.I change oil, and tires at the gas station here on Hanscom AFB in my spare time. I've seen almost every production passenger car out there with a turbo on it. And I can honestly say, that some of them should be smoking like a friggin' freight train if they went by the 'drain must be at the top of the pan' method. One right now off the top of my head, is a VW Passat with the 1.8T. That oil drain is almost to the bottom of the pan. Tell me German engineers don't know what they're doing.. lol

Ok, I'm done ranting. I've wanted to get that out for some time. If someone wants to argue about it, I'll take more pictures of my car, and more of the cars I see every day. Then we can start a new thread about it.

Whoa, easy, eazy!lolI'm sure my drain is fine, it's high and tight with a definite gravitational direction.I've been trying to log on all day, but I swapped lap tops and forgot my password. Still no word from the company about the turbo. It's only a 90 day warranty and it's expired on the 14th or 15th, so I caught that in time.I'm gonna give them a day or two to respond but after that I am going to post every drop of info I have on them here so all of nico can see what kind of company they are. It would be a shame too, because they had some good deals on a lot of stuff. I bought a kit that had the turbo, manifold, down pipe, HKS ssbov, and a godspeed intercooler. I'm really satisfied with everything except the turbo. All the stuff in the kit minus the turbo was pretty much worth what I paid for the kit.

yeah that's bs, i would forge a reciept if I had to because it would just be the "right" thing to do..plain and simple, the turbo f*cked up before 90 days...and I agree with eazy 100% on the oil drains, something to add: the engine is always syphining oil from the bottom of the pan so the oil level will ALWAYS be relatively the same. In other words, its not gonna fill up or "clog" that oil drain hose. <rant numero 3 lol

There is absolutely no pressure on the oil drain guys, the only thing getting the oil out of your turbo is gravity. Oil just oozes out of the turbo, try running your turbo without a drain line and you'll see what im sayen.

Well the fact that the pressure to the feed side was way too much for the seals, says that it's only gravity.I'll find a way to get through whatever hoops they want me to jump through.I just hope they don't give me too much crap. What size is a ct-26 turbo and what is it off of? Anybody know?I hope I don't buy another ebay turbo, but when I time travel, I can't be held responsible for my actions.

Its a Toyota turbo. Came on the mr2's supra's and celica's. I doubt its going to be any bigger than the nisan t2's that you can get. And the flanges are probably funky.
