Well this is a fun update. I'm loving putting the motor back together. As I was with the KA I'm all about the details and since I'm an engineer at heart, anything that doesn't need to be there is gone.

So here we go again:Taped up the intake mani for paint. I used duplicolor's 1000 degree header paint in aluminum color. Prep for paint is carb cleaner or other grease cutters, steel wool, then 400 sand paper.

Spraying

Mounted the IC and the rest of the piping except the BOV because I still have to borrow WC's snapring pliers I should buy some lol. It's zipties at the moment until I bend the alluminum square rods.

Got a Q45 ignitor chip from the junkyard. 10 bucks per. Picked one up for WC also. We didn't know there were 2 on each Q45 but that makes sense: 2 times the cylinders. They're right on the valve covers and heavythrottle.com has a writeup if anyone's interested.Check the sexy aluminum heatsink!

Spraying the IACV

Use the spray can cap to tape up the TB inlet lol:Bonus points to ppl who guess whats missing on the TB.

Pic of the stock jdm plugs for referance/parts numbers. They looked great (only had 3 in it though) I re-gapped my KA24DE iridium plugs to .36 and installed.

When installing these, I used my KA ones because I had bought new o rings for the injectors including these. The whole O ring kit is interchangeable. Don't forget to apply permatex white lithium grease all around the o ring for a nice seal .

the lower mani is staying off but i put it on just to mark up things like the IC cold pipe and to see how it looks. I <3 it!

Beautiful

Till next time

Lol fixed.

Ya idaho, and the bottle says it's oil and rust resistant or something. should be ok without a clear coat.

Mrgreenman, Naw B, I removed those dumb TB cooling hose fittings. No Necessito since I'm bypassing that because all it does is warm up your intake charge which defeats the purpose of my heat resisting intake mani gasket.

Ok nightly update here lol. Today was a hose day. vaccum, cooling, wastegate u name it.Radiator is on obviously.Figured I can run an aftermarket catch can in the front so I hooked up some hoses.

usdm radiator ghetto rig style. With pignose thermo sensor which i'll be using for the fan relay.

fmic almost all on, waiting on the old BOV flange to dry and then i'll worm clamp it on tight so it doesn't fly out.

Sadly the BOV is going to have to be mounted upside down i think.

Pro mounting spot for the Q45 ignitor. Where the old cruise control bracket used to be

That's it, I helped WC this morning so i didn't get as much done.

Thanks moldy! I just research before I act. I didn't know much about them 2 months ago .

Update: battery box done, upper wiring harness in, IC piping finally all done, battery tray area cleaned/painted some new goodies for the radiator hoses. The wire tuck/hide is amazing. Sorry we had to work fast, me and mr.greeneyes because of time constraints tonight.

First few pics are kind of a write up on how to do the battery box. It takes awhile to measure where to put the first pin, but drill the first one from the area that'll be hardest to match up and then the rest from the top. I believe NHRA and SCCA require at least 3 bolts bolting the battery box and or battery down if not stock, so i did 3 12" bolts from home depot with lots of washers and nuts. The underside after drilling

Topside with loose installation.

Battery box down, mock the holes up for those bolts on the box itself before you drill holes and use it as a template. Make sure u don't forget to put the carpet on first because I forgot and have yet to fix it lol.

If you don't have a friend to hold a wrench wedge it up against the box as u tighten the bottom nut. Luckily my bro got home 5 mins later and helped me.

Buy a rod of alluminum from home depot, measure and cut. Install as pictured:

Wiring in! check it!

Injector wires? What injector wires... all wires were run right by the coolant line going from the thermostat to the back of the motor.

Rad hose got a stainless steel treat, IC piping done, u can see the hidden wiring here too:

Pic of how i mounted the intercooler. stealth and lightweight homemade alluminum brackets. I forgot to take a pic but I also found a good use for canadian twonies or 2 dollar coins... to clamp off the old bov flange as a second wall lol.

That is all, I'm just waiting on my pipingpro.com kit for the intake, my Powered by MAX catch tank, and the Apexi SAFC2 that will hopefully be wired up tomorrow to help run the N60 MAF.

tasty, tasty clean wiring... the flash of your camera makes things seem less hidden than they are...

but the two extra hours was worth it.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, im glad u like.

I'll be making my own spark plug cover in the future maybe a month or 2 from now. It will be made out of preferably plexiglass. If that won't hold up to the heat, then ABS plastic. I'll be dremeling some cool letters in it probably something like SR20 vertically to help w/ cooling. Sadly teh guys forgot to gimme my original spark plug cover or I would have it on .

Today I helped Mrgreeneyes start his coupe. We rust proofed the topside of the frame and nearly everything's painted. The whole car. The rust wasn't too bad, but the paint was dirty. I'll let him start a build thread so I won't go into detail, but I did snap some pics.

Only things I got done were fixing a ground for the coil packs i remembered that I forgot to do, then putting the O2 bung in b/c it arrived! Made sure all plugs were hooked up and I did this really sweet vacuum line hide for the BOV line. I'll take lots of pics tomorrow of the setup. Greeneyes gave me 0Guage wire for a flywheel today and we picked up the SAFC2 wiring but he's busy on the coupe for a few days so we might not have time for my wiring till tues or later.

Good question WC. I was planning on it being there anyway because that's where the original bung was. Only reason I mounted it here is because it hides vac lines and there's a small spacer that was supposed to be used where that goes so the IC piping lines up, so I just substituted that spacer for the flange spacer. Allowing 2 less silicon connectors.

Update: I'm having a problem with how the coldpipe fits now. Maybe I bolted the intercooler in too far away from it but I'll have to readjust them both to get em to fit nicely agian.

Bumper has to be slightly modified to fit the IC:

Pics of the sweet vaccume line hiding job for the BOV: Thru the framerail (existing holes) and hugging the lower rad hose going behind the lower intake plenum FTW.

0Guage wire for the battery, and there's a big fat ground terminal on there too Hell yeah thanks Keegan! I have cams 4 joo.

The little adapter guy that I opted to put the BOV flange pipe in his place:

I have school 2morrow but I hope I can get some stuff done today.

Yeah Idaho, I'm not about to half *** stuff and then end up doing it over again because I didn't think it through the first time.

This update is what I got done today:DIY: making a good ground for your relocated battery. Use a grinding wheel and grind the area down.

Use connector protector between the metal surfaces and bolt 'er down!Shorter wire = less voltage drop which in turn is more power.

Picked these up from keegan's coupe shell. He had 2 pairs and I originally had laytex sealer over these holes. Thank god that nasty looking stuff is gone!

Strut bar on, and I layed the lower harness inside. I think this is the only thing we're not going to mess with at the moment since I would rather drive this car to school than my cavalier. (I drive an hour both ways so it sux in the cav)

Front bumper is on! It was a bit tricky but it's all in except the fender liner on the passenger side Yessss!

IC shot: I'm trying to brainstorm something to paint on there.

Just a few of the many things I take out when I work on my car. I couldn't justify using these anymore because the piggy lip was shot around them, and the straight ones were for under the bumper support. Good old bolts work just fine by themselves for that IMO. Weight savings off the very front end FTW lol

Mounted the radiator fan. I'm out of money so this will have to do until spring. I should be fine w/ the winter here. Try to hide zipties if you have to use them lol.

Woops I had 1 more pic and I zoned out and posted.

Just an underside shot of the fitment. BOV might have to take a beating from roadkill. I think there's plenty of room for me to c*** it toward the turn signal light. there's room inside the bumper there. Zipties again ftw to escort the air to the radiator. I think it all fits great.

Edit and yea, I'm going to replace that bumper extension on the fender. It fits like crap b/c it's beat. I have one lined up.I don't have school on thursdays which is nice, so I might be able to start the motor thursday and hopefully adjust the timing and test drive!

yea you might want to reposition your BOV.

and how did you winde up mounting the intercooler. i saw a pic with out the bumpper but couldnt really tell fro mthe angle

you should have used black Zip ties for the fan. they wouldnt have stood out as much

Ya I don't have black zipties atm.

I fixed the bov location: just rotated it upwards.

I mounted the IC with 2 things on the bottom going to the radiator support. you can see one of them from the top of the car here.

After seeing that you had new inserts Idaho, mine were beginning to rust so I used rust eater and sanded then masked n sprayed. Hopefully they'll stay nice now.

I got the other fender liner in. My piping pro kit still hasn't arrived.

Well it's not a real update because all I did was clean up under the car and double check the fender liners because I went fast on them. Missed 2 screws lol wow.

Just some pics of stuff I've done or had done that I think u guys should think about doing if you're into it.

In the past, I did the hood prop mod and also removed the weatherstripping there. I recommend you fill in the holes with something. I used black silicon rtv with some painters tape to hold it back for a nice look. These are chuki vent covers BTW (my car's a 90) because only chukis came with bugscreen inserts in the vents to help less dirt fly in.

The hinges on the hood. the spacers were all 1 piece from the plumbing/hardware section of the local amish owned hardware store lol. a nice plastic piece maybe 1/2 inch thick. painted and pro installed.

This mod was invented (as far as I've seen) by mrgreeneyes. He hooked me up with the cutouts and wiring wasn't really that hard. ipod input and the usb drive inside teh console ftw. I think WC also has this setup cuz greeneyes hooks us up lol.

tis all till 2morrow
