Wellp plans seem to change every other day. A friend offered me one hell of a deal on a clean little miata so im going to go take a look at that tomorrow. If everything works out with that ill take the 240 down for a while and give it the desperate attention that it need's.

+ i really really like stanced miatas....

Anyways time for a small update!

jacked the car back up a little bit, being low is fun and all but i just have to much tire right now.

Image

Image

For all you dumb asses the above pictures should show that i installed my j30 not that i was doing anything unlawful in any way shape or form.

Anyways i also noticed my front rotors are dangerously close to my LCA's. the megan ball joint things kinda f*** me there i think. Could also be a stupid amount of low and some odd camber when that picture was taken.

Image

Image

Im not to worried about it but i thought it should be noted if anyone plans to run this setup with a larger rotor.

paint is a go for next month, depending on if i get the miata i might just pull the motor and transmission out before and tell them to take there time with it. The list of ideas is growing longer and longer but i really need a 2nd car before i can take the time to do the s*** right and actually have a nice finished project.

Update!

car has been sitting for a while with no new goodies to go on so i decided to at least get it about ready for paint. picked up a set of fenders about a month ago and never got around to putting them on so i tackled that task today.

Started to get the fender off and a friend calls saying his brand new 911 ( well at least new to him) was broken down at a gas station by the house, by the time i got there the tow truck was there but i did mange to snap a pic or 2.

Image

Image

Turns out the key fob snapped in half and set the alarm off while the car was off and the windows down. ( it was going for a solid 45 minutes)

The fit is 99% better and all the trim lines are on point now.

just waiting to get enough free time to pull the motor and send the leftovers off to paint. still haven't decided on a turbo setup but i have a intercooler, injectors, harness, and a few other goodies on the way. right now im leaning towards just putting some ARP headstuds in and slapping a t25 on but i really dont know yet.

Get rid of the Megan balljoints, they don't have longer shanks, so it actually doesn't correct your roll center.
Moog balljoints from Autozone or something are fairly cheap right?

If you have any questions on a KA-T setup, you know where to look. :)
If you can find a T28 for cheap, you should snag one.
You'll get bored of the T25 real quick, haha.

1. What are you running on to tune? Seems like most of the shops around here that i would trust tunning a KA are booked for the next 2-4 months so id like to get something i can play around with. i was thinking about Power FC so i don't have to swap out to something that can keep up with more power when i upgrade to a bigger turbo one day.

2. 550's and a huge front mount are way to much for a t25 im sure but what about a t-28 or gt28 equivalent? am i going to max a 28 out no problem with this setup or will i end up just trashing all the turbo crap one day and going bigger?

3. im sure this has come up 100000x times but do i need to weld up a downpipe and elbow for the turbo or is there somewhere that sells one for a baby turbo in a ka? i also plan to run a e-cutout right before the test pipe for when i want to play around ( plan to run stock exhaust for super coolnis) i feel like it wont last long with all the psi trying to push it open though?

power goals starting out are around 230-250 with just some arp headstuds, hg and a new clutch. At some point down the road i plan on going bigger im sure but that should be a fun starting point for boost.

For the tune, I'm running an EFI Specialist rom tune.
Power FCs are pretty sweet, do they work with KAs?

Yeah, 550s and a front mount is kinda overkill for a puny T25, I'd start with at least a T28.
I know that Chris28 made 260hp @ 8psi on his T28, so a T28 will exceed your starting power goals.

If you're going bottom mount, buy an SR turbo elbow and downpipe.
It should all bolt up, but the KA sits slightly higher than the SR so it might hit the floorpan like mine did, so you might need to get it modified a little.

I had a SAFC II. It sucked. Not sure if Apexi ever came out with a power FC program for the KA. I know my friend had one for his rb25 and it was ok til he built his own megasquirt.
550s are over kill for a T25/8. The duty cycle on SR 370s are good for the T25/8. If you get a 30R like i had get 550s as you'll max out the 370s or just dont go crazy lol.
Stock exhaust would be fine.. what do you thing the silvias/180s have on their turbo'd motor lol. And its not like your going to have a built motor tomorrow, go with the stocker with a cutout if you want.
To my knowledge no one makes a oem style KA manifold. Like Razi said get a SR turbo elbow and a manifold. If you ever decide to go the ebay route, weld over ALL the welds and you should be fine for a while. If not, look at a decent used one in the classifieds. I see them every once in a while everywhere.

Oh trust me i know all about wasting money.

A vq is defiantly still in the picture but not for a little while for a few reasons.

1. Time. I work 7-5 everyday but sunday. By my calculations it would take me wayy to long to get it done when i only have one day a week to work on it.

2. Recourses. To my knowledge there has only been a handfull of vqhr swaps ever done. This is partly due to cost but mostly for lack of information. The only way at this point is to pretty much take every harness in the car and replace it with the Z ( the de is a much much simpler swap, just buy a conversison harness and gas peddle and your good to go)

3. I love ka-t's. For half the price of a sr swap i can have a pretty fast ka and With the right tune they will walk on a sr all day.

4. I care a lot more about having a car that looks good and can go around a turn. After paint, wheels, new coils and all the interior is done with ill start getting all the vq stuff worked out. I just dont see the point in having loads of power in a s*** box.

Long time no update!

Really not to much going on right now, way to busy fixing other peoples s*** to think about mine.

Anyways sold the wheels off the s13 and picked up another miata to daily, this means its time to get the motor out of the coupe, rebuilt, turbo'd and sent off to paint.

Plan on starting that when i get back from the beach next week so defiantly stay tuned for bigger updates in the near future.

Image

Image

The miata is a 91 with 180xxx on the clock. Clean title, d2 coils, racing beat intake and exhaust, konig 15x8 wheels and some other little odds and ends.

Ill be posting it up for sell as soon as the s13s done if anyone is interested.

So, I assume the 3.5 swap is not going to happen as you are still trying to get everything done first?

Yeah vq has been on hold for a pretty good while now. I can never really make up my mind anyways.

Anyways small update! I keep finding all kinds of little goodies that the guy had no idea about. Ita been raining for the past 3 days so i havent had to to look at everything but im starting to like it more and more.

The sr started to smoke pretty bad at idle so im going to look into that when i get some free time, seems to pull hard and boost okay and dosnt overheat so im not 100% on what to look for. Would it still spool fine and pull hard if the turbo seals are going out?

Update time again!

Ordered some coilovers last night to replace the megans with. I ended up going with the fortune auto 500's with swift springs, I'm pretty sure it takes longer to get but should be worth the wait. They go stupid low and still ride better then 90% of other coilovers you can get!

Also picked up a rear bumper and got my clusters.

im stuck between the super cool "jdm" or the hud, both are super clean but i just cant decide i have a perfect uncracked hud dash but the one in the hatch is also perfect.

Image

Image

Im stuck on wheels or paint right now. On one hand i should probably just paint the damn thing and call it a day but you really cant have fresh paint and ugly spray painted stock wheels.... right? I also kindof want to do all the fender work to make the wheels fit before i paint it. That way i dont have to worry about f*** up fresh paint.

with the new rear bumper it really is ready to go into the body shop and get some paint put on but i really should get a new front bumper first. the one on there has a mean little crack and is starting to dry out around the lights.

Image

Image

Image

Almost forgot about the new hatch!

finlay got a couple days off to started pulling the motors so we set to it. Didn't start off to hot, was in a parking lot on I40 for at least an hour trying to get both cars together, Had to make 3 other stops on the way but finally set to work around 7:30.

Started with getting the Ka out of the coupe. I knew this was going to be easy and simple to start with right of that bat. I put it in not to long ago and everything was pretty much new. pulled the dash, motor, transmission, drive shaft and exhaust in about an hour.

Image

Image

Image

now on to the fun part of the night! The Sr put up a pretty good fight. The drive side motor mount was stripped on both the top and the bottom, finally got the top one off and the sr out. I also had to pull all the heat and AC stuff from behind the dash to put in the coupe and the battery relocation stuff. after what seemed to take all night we finaly pushed both cars out and set off to get food and a few tools before we threw the sr back in.

Image

Image

Image

Got The coupe pushed back in and started throwing all the Ac and heat stuff back under the dash and set the sr in the coupe before we called it a night (i guess it was morning by this point)

Image

Image

Got a Pretty good bit done Sunday night for only having a couple hours to work on the car's. We ended up getting started around 4:30 and left around 8 with the coupe, got almost everything done on the hatch also. just need to put the dash back in and top off all the fluids. I didnt really have time to take pics but i got a couple.

Finlay got around to getting the hatch done and out of my hands! first car im not upset or pissed off about for getting rid of. Its going to a friend who has a sick little 20v 86 and he just plans to drive the s*** out of the hatch as a daily.

Image

( probably not the last you will see of that car. im sure he will do it up big.)

anyways! back to the fun stuff.

Got my lines in for the turbo. The water line had a crack in it and had a very fast temporary fix rigged up to get it going so i could get to work. Let me just say this is not a fun job to do with everything in the car.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Not good!

Image

The motor needs to come back out soon anyways. i wanted to get it painted before i put the motor back in but that just wasn't a option at the time. its also always a good idea to check the clutch while the motors out! its not feeling so hot anymore but hey i need to put the new front cover on and a few other things i picked up anyways so its probably easier to just pull it all back out.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Most of its up f/s right now but if i end up pulling the motor before it sells ill probably just pick up springs and run them.

Small update?

Got the water temp gauge hooked up and got around to welding in the bung for my wideband. also starting to try to clean the bay up a little more. it was pretty damn clean when i had the KA in there and it just looks like s*** now.

Image

Also picked up a roof rack for no apparent reason. just thought it might look good after the cars painted and has wheels on it. Plus i always seem to need more room to haul stuff around so why the hell not!

Image

some how both fenders and bumpers have been completely destroyed fitment wise along with the hood and lights. ill probably just let the painter deal with all that stuff, i really dont have the patience for that stuff.

I got wheels. More wheels!

Image

Image

Also started working on putting some gauges in my dash. I have wanted to do this for a while and never got around to it so here we go!

this is my first time doing anything like this so we will have to see how it turns out when its done.

Image

still need to pick up some foam and figure out what to cover it with but i think its a pretty good start.

Had a exciting day!

finally got around to parting out the hatch. we ended up making this a 2 day thing as nobody felt like dealing with it Friday night.

Image

On to Saturday morning!

Image

(dont know what my gauges dont like pictures but they both work :gotme )

Image

Image

Image

Had a friend stop by as his front end had been f*** by a deer a few nights before.

Image

Image

Next step is pulling the motor so the guy can come pick up the shell and then figure out how to sell all this stuff. had people stopping by all day digging through the piles and pulling out random bits for pawnstars cheep prices. i guess the little stuff adds up right?

Pulling the sr out next weekend and sending the coupe off to get some body work and then maybe paint? im still deciding on the final color but i think it will come down to a last minute decision. :ohno:

Edit!

Also got tires for the rims. needs a little work before i can put them on for good. (car is stuck on the jack in the pics :squint: )
