Yep, just picked 3 rolls up from Lowe's today and am pretty happy with it. The smell really isn't that noticable yet. Though i wonder if i would even notice it over the gas, exhaust, and every other wierd smell that pipes into my car on a daily basis. Someone farts in front of a 240 you smell it throught the vents.

It sticks pretty well and I def. noticed a big improvement over not having it at all. I did the back seat area and the doors, and didn't get super crazy. I can't wait until I can do the trunk and some of the floor board esp near the firewall.

Oh, and side note on temp of a car vs roof. I've melted soles on a roof in the summer, never in a car. Though all the stuff on a roof lays flat.... Unlike my doors.

I used the Lowes stuff in an old civic i had, and i live in missouri. In the summer, this stuff got kinda nasty, and when i removed it it left some nasty brownness. i did use a heat gun when removing, but not when applying, maybe thats why? idk but when it was hot out, it wouldn't stick to my trunk lid at all, or and thing vertical or horizontal but upside down.

Just finished deadening the rear deck, strut area, and behind the seats. I am very pleased, the interior is very noticeably quieter and the stereo sounds better. It took me about 10 hours to use up 3 rolls of the stuff I got at Lowe's. With a heat gun it was pretty good to work with. $14 a roll, bargin...

I know this sounds redneck as hell but when I first bought my 95 4Runner road noise in it was ridiculous. So I pulls the trim pieces and carpet out and did the same thing with the peel-stick stuff. I also took it a step further with that spray expanding foam stuff. I emptied like 2 cans into each pillar and all the spaces that were hollow behind the deading mats. Made a huge difference, plus I bet the b**** will float now

Ive always wanted to try that quick roof stuff ever since i saw that youtube video with the bug restoring guy last year

But right now my transmission is out of the car, and i have no exhaust or driveshaft underneath

this gives me the perfect opportunity to coat the bottom of my car!

I want to do it to prevent rust and also for some minor sound deadening. What would you guys say is the best stuff to use?

also where can you get this PEEL and seal roof flashing stuff? home depot?

and would it be as effective to just put this over the stock sound deadening that comes stock with our cars? or should i take that out?

The first page says lowe's and some people have found similar things at home depot. Every sound deadening thread I've found shows that you remove the old stuff first. They usually even recommend that you use dry ice to remove it. For someone with over 1000 posts, you don't seem like you've read much.

There is some oem sound deadener on some of the panels, I did not even try to remove it. Only the carpet padding material i took up then put back after the new stff went in... I went over the hard stuff that was there, sort of doubled up on it. It worked just fine. Mine was from Lowes, used a heat gun to warm it as I stuck it down. I did as much as I could all behind the seats, shock towers, deck, spare tire well. Over 8 hours I spent on it. Nice upgrade, noticeable difference. Some day I want to the floors panels under the seats and the doors.

So basically theres no need to remove the origional sound deadening? It would make sense to remove it since your replacing it anyways, thats just extra weight to have both

Also as far as rubberized undercoating, what other uses does it have besides preventing rust and deadening sound?

Does it weigh a lot?

And lastly, when you guys do it, do you go all out under the car with degreaser and a sponge to clean the bottom, or can you get away with just pressure washing it?

I plan on thoroughly cleaning it beforehand. If your really worried about weight then sound deadening might not be for you. I have absolutely no concern about weight so I dont care to overlap. Im just worried about the quality of my ride. I have actually finally got it to the point were there are no rattles or vibrations inside my car.... If your trying to build a track car then there is no need. If I had to guess one roll weighs a little under 5lbs. Might take 5-6 rolls to do the entire car...

Im not worried about weight, i just want to make sure its minimal weight that im adding and i wont be adding additional 25lbs to the car just by doing the rubberized undercoating

As far as the weight of the factory sound deadening and the peel-n-seal, ill probably just get rid of the oem sound deadening (in certain areas) since its being replaced with better stuff anyways

Im building my s13 to be a daily, so im not trying to make it as light as possible, but it will see track time (auto x, drifting, and eventually road course), and i also dont want to turn my car into a boat. However at the same time, ride quality is important to me, and i want a nice cabin without a bunch of squeaks and rattles on most older cars

All in all, if the total weight of the sound deadening together with the rubberized undercoating comes out to be no more than 50 lbs, then id say its worth it, considering s13s are light to begin with, not to mention mine is a base model

Nice find man, thanks for posting this. I used to do maintenance and used this stuff all the time, but I guess I never figured to use it like that. Now that I know, I am gonna use my old boss' Home Depot discount, lol.

Yeah I just did this with the peel in seal stuff pictured on the first page I think it was? Drive and s14 and it took me about a roll and a half for the trunk, and a roll and a half for the doors and the driver's door was sorta half assed cause I ran out. So I suggest getting 5 because I would've used 4 and thats without overlapping at all and without doing underneath the carpet. The doors sound a lot more solid when I close them so that a +. I replaced my speakers at the same time I did this so not really sure if it makes them sound better but I'll go with it does so I feel better lol.

I bet that sounds amazing but god! I couldn't handle that everyday. The key is to fill the pockets down on the sides of the trunk with pillow stuffing or fiberglass insulation. If you dont the exhaust tones will still reverb through the fender...

Awesome! Glad to see that I can help some people. I will be updating this thread as well as my build thread( zerothread?id=470305 ) as I continue to do the floor, and firewall. As well as with the undercoating process. I am kind of skeptical of the gains with the undercoating but it need to be done either way. I was lucky enough to find a rust free body/chassis and I need to keep it that way.

Let me know how that undercoating goes

If i find rust on the bottom of my car (i wouldnt be suprised, the spare tire well already had a few tiny holes from rusting through), would i have to cut and re weld new metal? Or would i be able to just spray right over it. If its not rusted all the way through, ill try to grind it down and get rid of as much as possible, but so long as its not going all the way through, i should be fine spraying over, correct?

Why not just replace it? I know several people that would do it for supplies and a 12 pack.

If not make sure you use rust treatment paint before anything.
