***UPDATE***

It is update time again and I have some good/bad news. The good news is that I pulled the gas tank, used the old gas to put a 1/4 tank in my camry.lol. The bad news is what I found after all was done and said.

So it isn't lookin good from the get go...
Image

The filler neck is done for. I also found that almost every clamp fitting on the brake lines and so on are rusted and broke...
Image

The gas line fittings are the best ones I had seen
Image

After I removed all of the gas lines, I lowered the front half of the drive shaft and pulled the heat shield off of the tank.
Image

I don't know if I had said anything before but I accidentally hit the 4 wires going to the fuel pump with my grinder(with wire brush) while I was removing seam sealer for stitch welding. Since the wires were already a little mangeled, I decided to cut them and then I pulled the fuel pump cover off and pulled the wire thru.

Once that was done, I dropped the gas tank.
Image

From there, I hit the leads to the fuel pump with my electric impact battery and shot the fuel into a gas can to transfer it to my camry...
Image

And that is when I took a peek at my underbody...Go figure...more rust
Image

Image

And how my garage was left last night. The pic doesn't include every rear multi link suspension part by my feet but i do have some room to move around...Thats always a plus.
Image

Image

And check out my How To remove a subframe page and give me some feedback...how-to-s14-subframe-removal-t513733.html

Yea, for sure. Send me some pics if you could.

Anyways, I cleaned some stuff up a little bit. I cleaned up the filler neck cover. This is before I cleaned all of it but part of it looks like its melted. I dont know if thats from gas spilling on it or what but oh well.
Image

And then I moved to the heat shield that sits between the fuel tank and the exhaust/drive shaft. I cleaned this entire side and then flipped it over and saw how much rust was actually on it so I will probally be buying a new one...
Image

After that, I removed my old tail lights.
Image

I also removed my third brake light on the trunk and found this critter.lol I dont know how this big a** thing got in there. There isn't really any big holes...
Image

I may be trying to put an L.E.D. strip in place of these^^^ bulbs to complete my tail lights. I just ordered my Dmax L.E.D. tail lights, front winkers and my over fenders.

And Nismo says..."What you lookin at FOOL???"

i made a thread on putting an led strip in there. i got it from a escelade, it was the 3rd brake light and it had the water clear led's. i also got one from a mid to late 90's (maybe early 2000's) volvo (s40?) that had superflux led's.. ill see if i can find the link..

and it took about 3 minutes to load this page. so if this doesnt bump to the next page then im going to be pissed. haha

Nice, thanks man and no big deal on the filler neck. I will just buy one from nissan. Thanks though.

Well I haven't really worked on the car since I took the fuel tank down. I am STILL waiting on my tubing and my new parts should be here tomorrow. I ended up havin a party at my place friday, went to my pops and started on the garage saturday, watched the blues game killin if saturday night and then back to my dads sunday to work on the garage.

Then Monday came around and I went up to gamestop and picked up my new game at 12.

I have to tell you, this game is great. The campaign is awesome and the multiplayer, while it will take a little time to get used to, is killer too. The 3d is even better. When ever I have a gun in my hand, it actually feels like I am holding a gun and when you look thru the ACOG, you can see the depth as if there is actually a tube with a crosshair in it. It's crazy and I can't wait for more games to start doing this.

I will try to get some better pics of them when I do a mock up on the car later on. The overfenders look pretty sturdy and better quality than the 30mm ones I had before so lets see how they look on the car. I just hope the body lines match up and everything looks like it belongs so we will see....

Ok, I threw the over fenders on to get a glimpse of the future and they look good. Good quality and excellent fitment. I can honestly say that I am very happy that I went with these over the origin. For the quality and price, they are unbeatable.

I lost my sd card so I took these with my phone. The pictures don't really do justice. You have to see these in person to realize how sick they look soooo....on with the pics

I bought these from Teknolust72. He is on here and Zilvia I believe. He is the one that I got my Origin kit from and the rest of the dmax lighting.

Yea, I think they look sick and as for the gas door, I will have to try something other than the one included. I may just extend the factory one out and make a fiberglass cover for it so the body lines math up but that is later on.

***UPDATE***

I began to strip out the front fender wells. I used my aircraft remover on the undercoating and it worked pretty well over most of it. The pics are kind of s*** but it brought it down to bare metal pretty fast and made it extremely easy to scrape off for the most part.

I still need to do the underside and the rear wheel wells. Other than that, I mocked up a template for my main hoop. I will be keeping full interior but I will be cutting the rear lower pieces a little to keep the cage closer to the side.

Hey man that shop thats up near you, Adrenaline I think it is, can they fab intercooler piping? This is the one part of my turbo project I haven't really mapped out yet. I don't have the means to do any decent fabrication at my place and I don't want to buy one of those stupid cookie cutter universal kits on ebay. thanks man.

Yea, Adrenaline can do the fabrication of intercooler piping. I would also try going to any local fabrication or radiator shops. They can weld aluminum also. If you are on Driftstl.com than I would send Omar a message and ask him if he can do it. He is the local guy who builds cages and piping for alot of the stl people.

I picked up my tubing last night. After I got it home, I cleaned off one end and closed it up with duck tape. I then leaned the 12' tube up against my deck and filled it with water. After filling it with water, I began scooping water soaked sand into a funnel going down the tube. After it was about half way full, I started smacking it with a hammer to get the air bubbles out. I then continued to fill/smack until the sand would no longer budge. After that, I dried off the top and taped it off with ducktape.

I cleaned my garage up a bit and picked up my tools so I have a place to work on this cage. I will begin bending it tonight and then I will see how everything goes. My computer crashed so I can't upload pics right now but I will when I get a chance.

Well I have my computer back so here is a few pics.

This is the undercoating scraped off my front right wheel well...still isn't all of it

And here is the tubing I am using on my cage. It is 1.75"x .095 wall diameter.

Hey I don't know for sure but I most likely have that filler tube and heat shield you are looking for... I have an s14 parts car that i haven't messed with anything on the rear yet. How much of a pain in the a** is it to get out? I live in Springfield, MO so maybe I could save you some money on it.

Well Adrenaline quoted me $350-$450 to fab the piping  Don't suppose that new bender you've got would do 2.5" OD aluminum would it...

For sure. It wasn't too bad. Just take the plastic shield off and see if it is rusted at all if you get a chance. From there I think its only a couple bolts and some hose clamps.
SX APPEAL wrote:Well Adrenaline quoted me $350-$450 to fab the piping  Don't suppose that new bender you've got would do 2.5" OD aluminum would it...
That is what I figured. They can get pretty high in the price range. I don't think that I could bend the tubing with the crush bender. I would be afraid it would either kink or crack the aluminum since it is so thin. Make a name on Driftstl.com/forums if you don't have one already and look up Omar. He does good work and is usually pretty decent in the price range.

***UPDATE***

Well I got some work in on the main hoop last night after work. I have to say...it looks pretty good to me. No wall failure, the tube didn't flatten at all and it didn't kink. Great investment for me since I have absolutely 0000 dollars in to the cage so far. Because the tubing took so long to get here, my fabricator got it for free from the company. They just wrote it off as damaged goods and here I am with a 21ft section of 1.75"x.095". Lucky me.

And this is where it got crazy.lol. The tube was to long and was hitting the ground so I needed some more height...so this is what happens when your a master rigger with crap lying around.lol

And the finished product. Not too bad for my first one ever made.

Good news...The main hoop fits in the car and looks pretty good. It is a tight squeze but I guess thats good. The bad news is that while I was trying to get the main hoop in myself...I broke my windshiel :(

I guess I will be removing all of the windows now and try to get a little further with the cage and under body work.

yea, thanks. I wish I had an update but I have managed to loose the second sd card so I went to walmart and bought one so I should have some pics coming up pretty soon.

I am trying to decide if I want to go with a full cage including the main hoop or if I want to go with a more daily driver friendly cage and just do a couple door bars or something. Give me your inputs and help my figure things out.lol

If you go with a full cage and its not certified then it wont do you much good when it comes to entering events. It would pretty much just be for looks and obviously safety in case you roll. Just food for thought.

Love the thread man keep up the good work. Mine is pretty much at the point you are at. Are you going to replace all the bushings while you have it torn down?
