I also got some new toys and a nice little treat.

Went to Harbor Freight and got a new welding mask. It's an auto-darkening mask so that means no more lifting my mask inbetween every weld and its solar powered(i think most are) so that means no dead batteries. This was 39.99 and it works great.
Image

I also got a 110lb Sand Blaster for 103 after my 20% off coupon(just google harbor freight coupons). I also got the 2 year warranty so it came out to be a little less than what it started at with the warranty. The box was 3ft by 1.5ft. just the right size to fit in the back seat of my g/f's cobalt 2dr.lol
Image

A full tank will run for about 1 hour to 1hr and 20 I believe with continuous use. It came with a large funnel to put the different media in it easier, a canvas mask(kinda janky lol) and the gun is a deadmans blaster...this means that if you drop the gun, it will automatically close.
Image

I also treated my girl and I to a nice Japanese Grill dinner from a local place called Shoguns...50 bucks gets you two plates like, one soda, one water and a chef with all kinds of tricks.lol. Great food though. Nothing like payday...
Image

And one more thing...can you use any sand in a sand blaster? The media for sand blaster is like 20 to 30 for 50 lbs but home depot has a 50 lb bag of childrens sand box play sand for 3.28 so I would rather buy that if ya catch my drift.lol. Any help would be appreciated

Childresn playsand is an extremely fine silicate based media. Is there a grade on the 50 dollar s***. If so just compare to the playsand, or just eyeball it, if the 50 dollar stuff looks as fine as the playsand then id say yea.

Yea, the expensive stuff is like 80 grit i believe but I talked to my pops and I think I might try a pool store because they have really fine sand for the bottom layer of the pool to sit on.

Yeah both are silicate based media. i beiieve pool filter sand is a tad bit more coarse, i if i remember correctly. I keep reef fish tanks, and went through this comparison a few years back between playsand, and pool filter media, used for the bottom layer of subtrate to help propigate the nitrifying ionization process.

I see...well the only other drawback of using sand is silicosis which is a respiratory disease from inhaling dust from sand and called silica dust. They say it takes long exposure to it and if you are working in high exposure areas to wear a respirator so I think I will get my 3m painting respirator and use that and my janky canvas mask. I think I should be safe. I guess I will be off to the pool store tonight.

What are you wanting to remove?? The main Dash harness is kind of a pain in the a**. The engine harness is a little easier.

The dash will have bolts on the sides and top for sure. I can remember where all of them are but be careful while taking out the top ones. They are under the defroster grill and this piece is super brittle. I have to buy a new one because mine shattered. It has littl plastic clips that just snap in but they are a b**** to get out so take your time. I rushed it and now its in 4 pieces.lol.

The dash harness will be easy to remove IF you have takin out your a/c and heater stuff...if not(like me), it is a little more difficult. In the picture below, you can see the dash harness draped in front...the white clips on it are tucked behind the a/c and heater components so unless you have those out, you will struggle. I recommend having a tool like my push pin puller. It looks like a screw driver but the end is bent like a pry bar and is shaped like a fork.

Image

If you are trying to pull the engine harness, you can remove the far right box(blower motor maybe, idk what it is called) and then the hole in the firewall is right behind that, like showin in this picture.

i wouldn't worry about that. you'd have to work with sand, day in and day out, for years, for it to be an actual concern.

Yea, thats what I figured so I went to home depot and picked up 3 50lb bags of play sand. it is really fine but its all wet because it was sitting outside so I have to wait to use it. You can't beat 150lbs of sand for 10 dollars compared to 50lbs of abrasive blasting media for 40 bucks.lol. Home depot and Harbor Freight ftw

I went to use the sand blaster last night and the sand has not dried enough. It didn't seem wet but when I tried to run it, it kept clogging the tip up...this is no good.lol. I am gonna put a couple fans on the sand today when I get back from work and see what I can make happen.lol.

I am also putting my turbo for sale in the classifieds, it is a Greddy TD05H-18G.

Yea. No problem. I finished up the stitch welding in the cab. Now I need to finish up the trunk. I will have some pics up later on today. I also cleaned up my garage so I can function a little easier.

The new welding mask makes life so much easier also. I don't have to lift my mask in between each tack weld :)

Well, I finished up the stitch welding everywhere except for part of the trunk. I have a few rust spots I need to take care of first. I did manage to spread the sand across my floor and put a fan on it to dry it out. That worked pretty well.

I found some parts that I may be buying with my next check...
The first is a Wilwood brake/clutch pedal setup. Does anyone have any experience with these? Can I remove my brake booster if I go this route?
Image

I also found a powdercoating system from eastwood for pretty cheap.

And here are some pics of my 96 civic that I just found. It was a fun car to drive and with my 2 step, I could blow 4 ft. flames.lol

Yea, I had mine hooked up to that toggle in the pic because I removed the clutch switch for my remote start. I would rev the engine, flip the switch, hold the gas pedal down and once the revs met the 2 step ignition point, it would ignite the unburnt fuel. I'm sure it wasn't good for it but it was funny as hell to see people jump walkin down the street. It sounds like a gun shot.lol

Thanks for the props DuckyD

Thanks man...I'm impressed with my fab skills too.lol. Just proves that you don't know what you can do until you do it. I sold my turbo so I have some more funds and I picked up some new side skirts for 100 off a local guy.

Can anyone say Greddy Gracer sides???
Image

They are already painted the same color and fit great. I saw the guys car that they came off and it makes me rethink if I want to paint my car another color. His s14 was sick and immaculate. It literaly looked like a monster. Imagine if nissan made a production s14 with a version select kit and some monster chrome work wheels, thats what this guys car would look like. I wish I would have taken a pic but my gf had my phone

Sorry for not have much of an update. I was on a float trip and have spent all of my money over the last couple months on my all inclusive vacation to mexico.

I am gonna work on the beast tonight.lol. I need to finish the stitch welding in the trunk and will also be re-wiring the electrical in the trunk also.

I still need to get the undercoating off but that will have to wait for me to get the motor out. Hopefully I can borrow a picker from someone pretty soon here so I can get this thing really movin. I will try and take some pics tonight so you guys can get a feel for where its at. Also, does anyone have rear valances? I am wondering how well they fit and look because I may get a set.

I am also looking at getting some LED tail lights so if you have any of those, feel free to post some pics and so on

***UPDATE***

I worked on the trunk some more tonight and I just have a little strip left and then im done with the stitch welding...until I get to the firewall and engine bay that is.

This is an inside pic of the passenger side

And here is some rust that I need to get rid of...it's not too bad but its still rust
Image

I think I am going to teach my g/f how to fiberglass tonight. I have to cut the sides of my rear bumper off and fiberglass them back on. They are all jacked up so each side needs to come in about 4 or 5 inches if not more. I will get some more pics of that when I start on it.
