u can still slide to the side and control it, ive done it in both my fc and the s13. if a wheel stops spins it doesnt mean it cant be turn

dude plenty of times when ive slid its not in a straight line. true traction is important, but there is no such thing as no traction. even when sliding there is traction (very little) look up mew (the coefficient of sliding friction). turns can be made based on the throttle. while sliding, giving gas causes the car to turn as well as braking techniques to weight shift
