I have been slacking on this thread for too long. Time for an update. After the car was painted I applied for the ASD Mob and barely missed the cut, but lucky for me they decided to make the "ASD Mob Prospect" group and I got in. Since partnering up with ASD the car has been given a few changes, run a few events, broken a couple things, and had some nice new parts installed. Massive thanks to ASD Inc, Falken tires, Driveshaft Shop, Heatshiled Products, and Mechanix Wear.

At a TractionOptional event in mississippi my clutch started slipping and then my sr trans finally gave way. Wasn't too worried as I knew it was going to happen and already had a z32 trans and conversion kit ready to go...unfortunately it was at home.

At my next event, in Nashville, the z32 trans was running great and felt good......until the shift lever broke off from the trans..ugh. Found out the bolts we used were being pressured down causing tension to be created against the shifter bracket and thus leading to the shift lever breaking loose. After taking care of that problem the z32 trans has been great.

Drove up to Charlotte, NC for the ASD Mob meet and greet seminar and the SWD Anti-freeze event. It was amazing seeing the ASD/Falken cars in person being built up for the FD season. The guys at ASD are crazy smart. It was a lot of fun drifting at a new place where I didn't know anyone. The crowds there really get into the events screaming and cheering the drivers along all day.

Then this happened
Image

This is the end of the passenger side axle that shot out...honestly thought I broke the transmission. I then ordered the driveshaft shop rear axles. These things are stout as hell! Love em. If you are making more than 350whp you should go to driveshaftshop.com and pick up a set.

I then went back to Charlotte for another SWD event. This time it was the AM series competition, and my car was now donning the both the ASD vinyl and the new ASD ebrake kit for the event. The ASD full ebrake kit came with Wilwood 4 piston rear calipers, caliper bracket, ebrake handle and all the lines needed for the install. Being the first ebrake kit, ASD performed the install to make sure everything installed perfectly and the kit was ready for production. I had been running a PBM hydro setup, but the ASD kit is amazingly precise and much easier to use than the PBM. Honestly love it. I also got the chance to partner with Falken tires though the ASD Mob program. I have been running Falken tires for some time already so getting the chance to partner with Falken is amazing. Such awesome tires that grip so damn well, produce tons of smoke, and hold up very well to drifting. I am now running Falken RT615K fronts and FK452 rears.

Back to the event. I was doing pretty well all day and having a blast, then at the worst possible moment my oil relocation starts spitting oil. It was middle of a comp and I was about to run the final battle. We were pouring quarts of oil into the car after each run...and just my luck we end up running 3 one more times. I lost to Ben Lewallen and took 2nd place in the end, but luckily the motor survived. Later discovered that the oil filter relocation bracket had warped the oil filter causing just enough of a break in the seal to spit oil under pressure.

The next AM series event didnt go quite as well. The day started great as I laid down my fastest entry speeds for qualifying. Ended up qualifying second, but got taken out in my first battle. The guy I was running against ran a shallow line and I had a hard time following him. He was able to keep up with me running the big angle line pretty well as he ran shallow again. He went on to win the event. Oh well gotta learn to run a shallow line if I am following someone doing the same.

Now it was time to get a bit of work done to the car. The rear down bars needed to be changed to meet Formula Drift rules, the exhaust needed to be re-done as it sat way too far out from the rear bumper to pass FD rules, and I needed to put a kill switch on the car. I also went ahead and got new harnesses as my old ones were already more than 3 yrs old. The car was left with ASD for the fabrication work. They also decided to make a new driver side seat mount as my old one was a bit sub-par, and I finally got around to taking pics of the ASD ebrake kit.

Formula Drift ProAM @ Road Atlanta. Wow what an event. That course is more fun than I could have imagined..frustrating too. I have done track days there where its all about grip, but that gave me no help when it came to drifting the course. Getting comfortable on that first entry is pretty crazy. Gotta go all out then throw the crap out of the car to come around a 90 degree corner. Then back on it to get uphill to the horseshoe. Try to maneuver through the horseshoe to setup for the downhill section where you gotta have enough speed to make it to the next corner before tossing the car to make it back to the start line. The pros make it look so damn easy and its nothing but hard. I still had a blast tho. Right about qualifying time I got the hang of the entry (that was my 5th run of the day and qualifying was 7th and 8th....not much practice time to learn a fast and technical track). I didn't make Top 16 as the horseshoe kept stomping on me. In the end my qualifying runs placed me around 21st or 22nd out of 40+. Next year will be much better now that I have a good idea of how and where to place my car.

I have a bad habit of neglecting this thread. Sorry.

Updates:
Road Atlanta ProAM was crazy fun. I had a really hard time with the horseshoe section. Part of it was my driving, and part of it was my car. Can't wait to go back and run even harder. One of the next ProAM events was at Charlotte Motor Speedway where XDC was held a few months prior. Was really happy to be able to watch incar videos from that event as I had never driven at CMS before and heard that the entry can be a bit hairy and the rest of the course isn't much better. Well they were right. Charging into the first corner in 4th gear and then tossing the car with a guardrail at your back is a bit unnerving, then trying to hold angle and run a course where both the nose and rear of the car are inches away from dirt is both scary and tons of fun. The massive drain grates I could live without tho. I hit one on the first corner and that spun my car and I ended up smacking the rear into a styrofoam barrier. Luckily the damage wasn't too bad. Was great having ASD there to help keep me focused and to help better setup my suspension for the track. The changes we did after the wreck made a big difference.
Image

So I removed the rear bumper, taped the trunk down and went back out to qualify. After qualifying I was up against Jeremy Lowe and his fire breathing FC. Good lord that thing is fast and he is a very capable driver (good luck to him in his 2012 FormulaDrift season). On my lead run he was right behind me the entire time. On my chase run I could barely keep up. So I got knocked out just in time for the sky to let loose a fury of rain.

Other than that there was an event at Zmax dragway, a handful of Turner Field events, and a fun team tandem comp. It was myself and two good friends against three of our good friends. That was some great times. We took first place.

Then in November the car went up on jackstands and started getting dismantled. Plans were to change out the BC cams to some JUN auto cams, get an entirely new custom wiring harness, make some bash bars and basically give the whole car a fresh change. Well monkeywrenches come in all shapes and sizes. I know because at almost every turn I got to see a new one. My motor had a few stripped threads, part of the oil squirter over the exhaust cam had broken off and found it's way into my oil pan, even after repairing the driver front corner damage the front end is still a bit off (oh well its a drifter what can ya do). I also found out I somehow ended up with an R33 GTR clutchpack diff inside a 98+ JDM kouki 180sx dif housing. I learned this after buying a new diff to fit the 180sx housing. The output shafts on the r33 clutchpack are slightly different than the 180sx and since I wanted to continue using my DSS axles I had to take the output shaft to a machine shop so they will work properly. There have been a few other changes made, but mostly small things. I now have a window net on the driver side as I like running with my windows down and I think the window net will go quite well with the new look of the car. The aero and wheels are getting changed up as well as the paint scheme.....well only about half the car is getting new paint.

I am also very stoked to have had my ASD Mob status upgraded from Prospect to full member for the 2012 season. I worked hard with the car and my driving over the 2011 season and it's always nice to have those things get noticed by your partners. Hoping to debut the car and it's partners very soon. Will post up pics as soon as the car is ready and running. Hopefully even some vids from it's first event (hoping for March24th turner event, but will see if everything comes together in time).

2013.....motor went boom. 6yrs of nothing but abuse. Sad to see it go, but it held on and never let me down till that day. Found it be caused by oil starvation in the head.

New motor with built bottom end. Transferred everything worth a crap over to the new motor. Now making 400whp/370tq @21psi on 110 leaded VP

4th time this has happened. Ignore what Greddy says and just stick with the s13 pulley. S14 allows the valve shaft to get over torqued which puts tons of stress on the first screw. Eventually it breaks. Its now been a year+ since I have had a throttle body break on me. Just had to make a bracket to properly align the throttle cable with the s13 pulley on the Greddy intake mani.

Thanks PapaSmurf! Nice pics. I guess running the same chassis (well 3 different s13s but mostly the same) for 6yrs has its benefits. I feel like I finally have the car setup to fit my driving style and the current power and grip levels
