thank you! grassroots is where all the fun is.

got a new toy to play with in the car. powered by max hydro brake. been wanting one for awhile now and figured it was time. got it installed last night and tried it out a few times. its not grabbing as much as i want it to yet, but hopefully after another brake bleed party it will be locking the rears with the slightest touch. right now i have to yank it pretty hard to get it to bite.

bad part is now i have to figure out where to mount my old headunit from version2 so i can finally have music again. gotta have music for drift events and speakers loud enough to hear it thru a helmet

so i have pretty much either killed the turbo or blown a ring. every time i lifted throttle the exhaust would let out a nice massive cloud of white smoke. going to get a compression test to see which of the two it is......god i hope it isnt both.

first part of the day went great. then the smokey exhaust began. i wasnt really losing any power and the idle was pretty stable, but for some reason the exhaust was pluming smoke everytime i lifted. once i know whats wrong i will feel better. then just fix it and be done. if its the turbo i am in a debate with going with another 2871r or a 20g..........or just say f*%k it and go top mount with a gt something. doubt i would go full race due to price......although i really wish i could.

once i know what i broke i will post up. pretty sure its the turbo. bought it from a friend after he had already run it strong for 3 seasons and i have put about 3 seasons on it as well. so even if its not the turbo, i need to go ahead and replace it.

That blows man, Definately sounds like the turbo will need a rebuild or just junk it and get a new one. White smoke is usually from when the turbo is getting ready to blow.. Good luck with everything man.

Can't watch the vid is your photobucket locked or something? But from the white smoke defiantely blown turbo im prety sure that is the problem . It is probably best to just check over your engine like compression and whatnot and then rule out the turbo situation. And the turbo probably has some blown seals.

think my photof***et is locked. oops. atleast the still frame says it all.

compression came back good. 160 across the board. so it is the turbo saying its dying. looking into options now. need to get it up and running within two weeks so i can make it to the EliteSummerNationals comp in spartanburg on august 8th. plus i got some BC 264 cams ready to go in. already installed BC springs and retainers earlier this year. was hoping to pick up some bigger injectors, but now with the turbo needing replacement, my 550cc sards will have to do for a bit.

Awsome car man, really loved watching the progression on the build

Question; I am also located in the southeast. Besides SouthEastDrift.com, can you point me toward any other resources for finding events?

SouthEastDrift is best bet for the area. streetwise has events in north carolina, MB has events in myrtle beach south carolina. theres a new promoter about to start throwing events in nashville, tn. that pretty much sums up the ga and surrounding areas events.

SED has events like once a month, next one is in nashville. The TNdrift promoter is talking about having events once a month to twice a month if the numbers are good.

hope that helps.

20g has been ordered! after talking with friends and looking over options and advice i went with a 20g. cheaper to rebuild if it ever goes bad and capable of just a bit more power than the gt2871r. i was getting 330whp out of the 2871 and have been told with current setup (without the 264 cams installed) i could see around 350-360whp....with cams maybe 370whp. hopefully i will soon be able to spin the crap out of the 18x12s and begin hiding cars in my smoke again.

well. the turbo was blown....but so were a few of the ringlands. luckily the crank and rods were still good. still pretty good for lasting me 3yrs of heavy abuse without a single problem till now. so we took the motor out and tore it down. cleaned it up and pulled out the broken parts and started looking into new parts for the rebuild. also sent the heads to get machined, resealed, and a 3angle valve job.

picked up JE stock bore pistons, Clevite bearings, s15 multilayer exhaust mani gasket, Tomei Expreme mani (the megan one was leaking horribly), PoweredByMAX Cobra flex downpipe (the megan elbow was cracked at the flange...and the megan downpipe was getting scarred up from hanging so low....plus the PBM dp is one piece, has vertical flex pipe, and is made extremely well), Stance water pulley, Stance water neck adapter, and the PoweredByMAX hyrdo ebrake kit (been wanting one for some time).

also finally replaced my PowerFC with a newer model. old one would erase itself every so often and the commander went out on me a few months back.

after putting the motor back together and bolting it back into its home i took the sil40 around the block for a an hour or two running the revs from 1k to 6k then shift and do it again all the way to fourth. then come to a near stop and do it all over again. kind of annoying but its good for the motor. then took it for its base tune. 299whp and 250tq at 10psi. pretty good numbers considering that i was getting 320-330whp and 270tq on the 2871r at 17psi. so after i break the motor in a bit more and turn the boost up to 18psi i am hoping for something in the 350-360whp range.

also bought the full PBM rear suspension arm package to replace the random ones i have now. cant wait to get those on...hopefully this week so i can test em out a private day on Oct31st.

and now that the photos have been fully leaked....not by me.....i can finally post em up.

the death of my second shell: me vs a light pole at 65mph (initiated at about 80mph..thankfully after all 4 wheels locked up there was enough room for me to scrub some speed before the impact). i walked away, still dont know how, and the motor still started up fine and drove straight, although the steering column was seriously messed up.

still dont understand how i was still sitting in that seat fully locked down with the harnesses. i am 6ft1" and 240lbs and that seat was maybe 6inches wide after the impact. this is why i have a full cage with door bars now and highly believe in them.

hopefully my third shell will last longer than one year. second shell missed it by less than a month. it was a bit wierd getting used to the new shell even tho its the same year, same model, except for the full cage. now with the motor rebuilt, with better parts too, the car is running great and i am finally comfortable with it. even ran the same course from the wreck and did great...although that pole was staring at me all day.
