It takes a long time and dedication to bleed brakes by yourself.

Thanks!

Pics that should have been put up last night:

Ready to go...

I actually now have 4 mountain dews bottles full of brake fluid sitting in the garage now...I just hope none of my little brothers or their friends find and drink any of that stuff by accident.

I ended up bleeding all of the brakes again not too long ago. I was really surprised by how much air was still in those lines and even in two of the calipers. Afterwards, I took it for another test drive around the block (only got up to 30 mph) and it feels A LOT better than it did before...but not quite where I would want it to be, but at least it's safe to drive now. I'll probably have to bleed the brakes one more time with someone helping me this time...

Anyways, I did see an improvement in the stopping power so I was pretty excited about that...

The only concern that I have at this point is some type of rotational noise that is coming from the rear. I don't knoq if it's because of the "new-ness" of the rotors and pads back there. Im hoping once these pads/rotors are broken in more, it'll stop. It kinda sounds something like this:

(when starting to accelerate)

swish........swish.......swish......swish......swish...swish..swish.swish.swishswishswishswishswish...etc.

(Yes, that's the only word I could think of that might describe this noise the best :chuckle: )

Im curious if anyone else had that happen to them after they put on new pads/rotors.

I will post more pics by the weekend.

K...I took the car out on a test drive again and did numerous stops from 50 to about 15-10 and the noise I talked about slowly started to go away.

Anyways, some more pics! :mike

One of the rear wheels...

One of the fronts...

It even has room to spare! There's probably about 4-6 mm of clearance in between the caliper and wheel. (It's just a guess)

Image

Once I go up to highway/interstate speeds and test it out there...then I'll post about how the brakes feel and everything.

I forgot to mention that there are stainless steel lines on the rears as well. I love finding surprises like that!

Couple of random pics I thought I 'd throw in here...the sunsets that we had earlier this week were pretty cool looking:

It was quite the mixture of purple, pink, and orange colors. I thought it was neat. :chuckle:

Missoula, Montana...it's a pretty nice place. It would be better if the weather wasn't s****y from October to May...and among other things. :squint:

Just got back from doing a more intense brake test I guess... :chuckle:

The car pratically stops instantly from 45 (or less) to 0. On highway speeds, the braking distance has definitely decreased, although it was here that it felt like it was a little bias towards the front...but it was nothing to be worried about.

No lock-up issues either which is always a good thing.

I'll take back what I said earlier about having to bleed the brakes again...at this point I don't think it's needed at all.

Glad I got this out of the way...onto the next part of this project! :badger

It should be biased to the front.

Well, yeah I know that lol...

Hmm...I probably should have worded that better.

Anyways, what I was getting at was for normal driving and braking around town, the bias to the front isn't really that noticable (to me at least), but when you are really on the brakes and/or slowing down from 65+...that's where I was like "whoah! Too much" or something like that. :chuckle:

K...It appears I might have to replace the driver side caliper (again), here's why. :squint:

Today, I went to bleed the front brakes just for good measure. On the driver side, I noticed brake fluid leaking from the threads of the bleeder valve after I had tightened it.

I don't know if this has to do with anything but I noticed that bleeder valve when turned, well, a 1/3 turn or more it sits in the caliper loosely. (As for the passenger side, this does not happen) When I bled the front brakes the first couple of times, it didn't leak after it was tightened so I didn't really think anything of it then.

I used a threadlocker on the bleeder screw but that didn't really help. :frown:

Drove it around today and after I parked it, I didn't see any brake fluid on the inside of the wheel.

I guess I'll just keep driving the car and keep close watch on the brake fluid level.

...

I really don't want to have to replace this.

Also, my laptop decided to crash/die last week and ended up getting a new one on saturday...so this means I won't be getting coilovers as soon as I would have hoped.

K...this is kind of a mini-update at most.

Long story short, school pretty much made me their b****...I literally have no free time to be working on the car until winter break. :frown:

So, other than that...for now, im just trying to buy some parts...not really much else I could do other than that obviously.

Managed to pick this up last week:

Image

Bought it off some guy I know. He knew one of the previous owners' of my car that was actually gonna use that kit on the 240...but never got around to do that.

Everything is still packaged up in the little plastic bags and everything...kind of surprising, considering that this particular kit was bought 5 years ago according to the receipt that came with it.

Sadly, that's all I got for now...I'll post pics next week (maybe two knowing my luck) of the coilovers I've ordered.

I like Energy parts. I hate that you don't have time to dedicate to your yellow toy, but I've been in a similar situation myself. It's been picking up lately though. Check it out, and keep us posted.

Great thread and i must say you have done a remarkable job. That said your rust situation was nothing compared to what i am looking forward too. I just picked up a 1990 s13 that has been sitting for a few years, outdoors, in New Brunswick Canada. Your rockers look almost mint compared to mine.

I will have to keep looking back over this thread for inspiration.

P.S. You still haven't told use the products you used in this process.

Glad to here that! ...and yeah, I totally forgot about that part. Thanks for reminding me though.... I'll try to actually remember to go ahead and make a list of all that stuff sometime soon. :chuckle:

Well, as for the coilovers...apparently there has been a delay. From what I was told, they probably won't be shipped until the next week or two. :frown:

K...if I can get anyones' opinion on this, it would be great...

How long does it usually take to receive coilovers after you order them?

Long story short, I ordered Stance GR+ coilovers from Intensepower.com on Oct. 14th. The money was withdrawn from my account just a few days later. I was told that they (intense) should be receiving their container from Stance during the first week of November but due to SEMA going on, they probably won't get it until the week on November 7th. They said they'll keep me informed when they know more....but I'm beginning to doubt this, I haven't received any e-mails from them since Nov. 3rd.

I also understand that Stance apparently has a history with backorders. From what I researched online, this problem seemed to have only occured when they first started to get big....but that was a few years ago, I think. (There were quite a few threads about delays from Stance from various forums that I've found)

I don't know...At this point, I'm just concerned because I haven't really received a legitimate reason (to me at least) for this delay. Should I start bugging them and start acting like an "angry customer" ?

I would get in touch with them and see what they have to say about the delay one more time before I started crackin' skulls.

I went through similar issues with intense with wheels. It resulted in nearly 3 months of arguing with them, and me eventually getting my money back. Enjuku sells stance parts and you don't wait nearly asl ong.

Well, I just sent them another e-mail...it will be last one before I start calling (again) and bug the absolute hell out of them. Kind of wondering what they'll say if they do reply.

Ugh...didn't really want to hear that, Lol....but thanks for the heads up. I just hope it doesn't go to that.

The reason I went with Intense was because they were offering free shipping/handling and a $100 discount of some sort when I added it to the shopping cart online. The total was only about $1150.......so I thought I would might as well go with them. Why not, right?

Im usually a really patient person when it comes to ordering parts, etc. But this is kind of pushing it...I guess what bothers me most is the lack of communication.

Just another small update. (I apologize for the lack of any pics)

Tomorrow, I'll pretty much end up pulling the trigger and going ahead with ordering the PBM RUCAs, toe rods, and traction rods that I've been looking at ( A LOT) recently. :naughty:

Eventually, later in the month, I'll order SPL tension rods, speed bleeders, and more than likely replace the front driver side brake caliper. :frown:

(I love being able to work full time again!! :yesnod )

A helicoil? I might consider that instead...

I'll have to google that since I don't know even what it is though. :gapteeth:

Lol...

Well, I've wondered every now and then what my car would look like with a silvia front end :chuckle:

Although I'll be keeping the front end I have....UNLESS if a get into a bad front end accident; then I might consider it lol :)

Edit: just googled it...I think I might take a look at using those instead of dropping the money to replace the caliper

Ok...so, when I tried to order those parts, apparently, I needed a paypal account. :gotme

I ended signing up for one...so after I get all of the verification bs out of the way, then I'll try to order those parts again (probably by end of this week now).

...

Also I'm still looking for a mint/clean/good condition black dash with the glove box and entire center console box as well.

I've been trying to find those for the past few months but had no luck (well, I did find a couple for sale......on the east coast :squint: ). Preferably, I'm looking for someone who is in the northwest selling it (cost of shipping would be a hell of a lot cheaper obviously).

Nice job with the car im pretty much doing the same(getting rid of rust). But this past summer i also changed all my bushings in the rear with energy suspension bushings and it does not take 16 hours. took me about 6-8 but to make it easier you should try to find a press to press the old ones out and new ones in
