This is what he's having a problem with. He is confused because his back side windows have a factory tint of less than 70% transmittance (he thinks it is about 30%). What he failed to realize is that he actually posted the answer to his own question (though I'm not shocked, really). The key lies here:

"(3) if it is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible and any rear side window has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent; or"

Since his SUV is not classified as any one of those things, it's not breaking the law (with any of the rear windows, that is). I don't believe I've seen any of the cars that would fall into those categories having tint of less than 70% transmittance, so the law seems pretty straight forward to me. Not really sure where the hangup is. But, they'll hopefully be able to explain this all to him in court, right before whacking him with the fines and court costs.

just take the tint off...you wont win....especially if you leave it on or peel it off and put it back on again....
most likely your truck has some factory tint on it, even if its small like 5% up to 15%. apparently mine comes with like 12%. so like the others said, putting 35% on it automatically makes it illegal, you'd have to put like 40 or 50% on your windows so combined with the factory tint ot UV filter, if a light meter reads it, it would read 35%.
I once got pulled over by a cop in MD who spent literally 45 minutes explaining to me tint laws and light meters and addition and subtraction and all of this other retarded bs instead of catching the mexican drug dealers driving by down the street.

ps $75 tint? good grief thats cheap. around my area its at least $100 and thats for a s*** job, to get a fantastic job youre looking at about $175.
meh just get a job and put it back on, but lighter. i know it seems like theres no point because then it doesnt mask the driver/whats inside but at least you'll avoid getting pulled over and having to keep paying for this crap. I learned my lesson from being stubborn..the third time they caught me, they suspended my plates and made me drive up to state police and peel it off in front of them to make sure i wasnt forging repair orders, etc etc. moral of the story is, dont break the law, wont have to see the police.

A $175 tint job may be well done, but it has to be using an inferior tint. The good stuff is simply too expensive for that to be economical.

Window tinting is a dealer installed option. Just because the dealer had it done, does not make it legal.

Have someone run your windows with a light meter. If they pass, take that to court, if not, STFU and pay the ticket.
There is 'factory tinted glass' that have the tinting sandiwched in between two layers of glass, and some actually tint the glass itself before they form it into a sheet. It's more prevalent on trucks/vans/suvs than it is on cars. My dad's '08 pathfinder has it, my frontier has it, even our '94 Aerostar has it. 95% of the cars that have this tinted glass is only on the rear windows, drivers and passengers are usually untouched except for the UV coating. Only in the last 5-6 years have a handful of luxury automakers utilized driver/pass tinted glass, and even then it's only like 15%.
So I went a little low on my guesstemate. Lots of windows are factory tinted, but the tint is so light, its hardly noticeable.

Passing the light meter of my Maxima's rear windows showed about 90% light pass through. The tint guy said that is about average for factory tint. After the tint Im down to about 40-41%. MN law is 50% for any windows other than the windshield.

Well, that's a first. You actually took our advice. Mark down this date. Though it would have been more fun had you gone to court and made a fool of yourself.

What made you decide to break tradition and listen to us?

You could have just paid the fine and continued to pay every time you got a ticket. That's what I plan on doing if I ever get stopped for mine.

God damn.

You are the dumbest f*** kid I've ever seen that isn't handicapped mentally in some way. Just the way you type and approach things socially makes you seem like a complete f***.

And obviously this point was made true as you were too much of a b**** to even ATTEMPT to say hi to the people that TRY to be nice and give you advice in your piss poor threads with the absolutely ridiculous situations you create for yourself.

If I'm ever at a meet you're at, I just want to meet you in person. There has to be some glimmer of hope that shines through your weird and awkward personality.

Its just tint. Pay the fine and leave it. The fine can't possibly be causing you a financial hardship.

You're giving pharmacists too much credit. Drug dealers don't take your order and then tell you to come back in an hour to pick it up.

The cops in my town are bored as f***, and will continue to pull me over. I know almost all the cops now (been pulled over 5 times since January), and they will get mad at me even more. Plus now I can drive after 9, I sometimes drive my drunk friends around at night since im the DD. I do not want to get pulled over with them in the car.

You're a teenager in a nice vehicle with heavy bass, cosmetic modifications, and drunk friends. Fair or not, it makes you a target since everyone that fits your description is usually up to shenanigans. If I was taking illegally drunk teenagers home routinely, I'd buy a white 2000 Ford Taurus with hub caps and blend in with other drivers. I'd make sure Lawrence Welk was playing when the cops pulled me over.

Yeah, just explain to the cop that you're trying to get them home in one piece. Being the designated driver is never bad, even if you (and they) are under age.
