if bmw's werent so expensive to maintain i would think about getting an e30 m3. aftermarket would probobly be crazy expensive for one too.

I'll put it in the trader soon, I just haven't had a chance. I was reluctant to sell it, but now that I am not driving it at all, I really need to sell it. I actually thought about getting an older beamer to drift. I bet it wouldn't be any more expensive than an s13. There are plenty of junkyards to get parts from for them around here.

I'm really not the best person to get directions from for around Greenville. I drive 3 miles on the dot from my front door to work and then another 2.5 to the gym during lunch break. So all told I only drive about 11 miles an average day. So I don't get around much.

Yea I've been really blessed and I have no reason to complain whatsoever. So if you ever do hear me bitching just go ahead and feel free to smack me on the back of the head and say "WAKE UP!"

I was the same way. I finally learned how to get around in the cities around me by moving three times in two years. Its kinda amazing figuring out short cuts.

, you better believe it, ESPECIALLY for an m3. I've seen turbo kits for bimmers in the $5K range. The junk yard would be a good spot for replacement parts, but personally I think I'd rather have a more quality part if something were to break on my bmw.

I'd link to a price list of 350z mods if I wanted to make you cry. Just kidding. But you do pay to play.

indeed.

Anyways guys. I got a dilema. I have a few choices and need some help on deciding. -After the wheels and struts, i have some money left over to do what i want. I came up with these solutions or ideas.A)I can use the money to get new paint and window tint (so its atleast clean but its still auto)

or B)Buy the 5speed parts and then just wait until i have the money for the swap, because right now i can only afford the parts, not the labor.

well, the 530 that my friend has had a bad motor when he got it, so he went to an auction and bought another one that had been hit in the rear for $1200. It had everything he needed to make his pristine. So you can make anything work for cheap if you go to the right places

why not do the 5 speed swap yourself? It is not hard at all. I could even walk you through most of it.

I got my car back today! The clutch feel is much better than it was and the transmission is pretty stiff but feels ok. Just needs to be broken in again. There is no more squeak comming from the rear wheels and I guess my only complaint that I have against it is that they did a complementary wash for me. The wash was a nice thought but unfortunatly it removed the 9 coats of zaino I put on my car last weekend .

Its a good thing I enjoy cleaning my car cause I'm taking a half day Friday and I guess thats what I'm going to be doing. James if you want your car done too we might as well since I'll have all my machines out.

How are you going to get your car up? If your going to put it on jackstands you could probably put it up as high as the stands will go and stick some hydrolic jacks under there. I don't know. I've never done a swap like that before so I'm not the right person to ask.

rent a transmission jack if you can do that. maybe just a regular floor jack would work almost as well. or just have a couple of people grab it or something.

I've heard of people putting them on those little floor dollies but I don't know how you would lift it up into place or drop it onto the thing on the first place.

I believe you can use the loaner tool program @ Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts for the stand, but if you go with the floor dolly, I think you would have to buy that.

The loaner tool sounds like a better deal all together.

Yea, I agree because you can get it all dirty and stuff and then take it back for your money. I've found that it comes in really handy when you just need some type of tool for a one-off event or when you're under time constraints.

any word on the cost. It would be really cool if i could just do this myself. Im sure it would take me about half a week. Im only scared of screwing something up and then not being able to put the old transmission back in if something goes wrong. I dont want to be stuck with just a shell and a motor. Ya know?

the hardest part, I think will be bolting up the transmission. Everything else is self explanitory. I changed out the engine AND transmission as a unit in mine so I don't have any experience with bolting and unbolting trannys. The hole for the master cylinder is punched through one side of the firewall so all you have to do is drill it the rest of the way out. Then, you go to your fuse box and you have to rig the clutch relay so it will start. It only costs as much as the parts. I saw in modified where they just used a drimmell tool and cut the brake pedal on both sides so it was smaller, then they just put a custom pedal set over top of all the pedals. Sure beats changing them out like I did. Pain in the ***!

What's the worst that could happen? So you have to take it to a mechanic or get a mechanics help to finish it.

I just realized something, if you are going with an rb swap later, this is a waste. just get your paint and window tint, then when you do the rb swap, all you need is the clutch master cylinder, hard line, slave cylinder, pedal. Most of which you can get at the dealer pretty cheap I think. But if you get a really good deal on the transmission and swap stuff, then who cares? You can sell it when you get the RB. Just stuff to think about.

Well if your too affraid of doing something that you don't do it then your cutting yourself short. But at the same time you don't want to go into it uneducated. Just my $.02

Well here's my $.02; as much as I love a 5spd, IF I had a 240 with plans of an RB swap, I would just save that $$ for my swap. Especially if I felt that a mechanic would have to do it for me. I called a mechanic that I usually deal with and he quoted me $700 for an auto to 5spd conversion. The RB motorset is like $3500 +/-, so that $700 would help a lot towards the swap. I've been very tempted to just buy a 240 w/ auto and just drive it that way until I can do my swap, but I just don't think I can settle for something less than what I really want.

Yea thats a good point. Im sure i could do it if i really wanted too. I'd like to get the experience and i think im just going to do the 5speed swap. I know for a fact it will be a long time until i have everything for a RB ready.
