Not a bad trade! Thanks Theo!5 bolt J30 axlesmmmm VLSDAs she sits, waiting to be whole againPART II Spent the better part of the day doing this, and installing my open diff into Theo's car. As a fellow PNW person, just wanted to say Mor Furniture has some of the most gawd awful and gaudy furniture I have ever seen. Granted, some of the stuff is pretty cool, my ex and I snagged a 8' long 150 lb solid oak table for $100, definitely is the kind of thing that will last forever.

Oh and freaking sweet car, if you are making it to Golden Gardens or the Issaquah meet at the end of the month (Feb 28th), I hope to see it in person. Lotta poorly done rides around here ie Extreme Dimensions Vader kits.

Lol, Good questions! I havent summed everything up yet. A lot of the stuff ive purchased has been with parts that I have replace and dont need anymore. But i'll have a ball park figure towards the end haha

Yea not until i crank lol. But so far i'm loving this build a lot better (process wise atleast). But i think that has to do with the knowledge base. I def. know a lot more than i did 2 swaps ago!
Noxy wrote:Huh. Never seen anyone put a open diff INTO a 240. This thread is full of surprises!
He sold and traded me his J30 diff because just like any vlsd, it doesnt give instant lock... so he needed an open diff to weld. But obviously he also needed to get home so we had to install it

Hahaha, yea. But I dont think i'll be making it to the Golden Gardens meet. But the one on March 28th I think ill be done by then! And Bremerton drift school is around that time also!

Dude, if its out... clean it now. I used engine clean, simple green then brake cleaner to dry it up for paint!!

K, got the rear conversion done! Z32 5 lug and rear brake setup, mmm so delicious. Also got to finally check the fitments for my wheels. Have to say, I kinda like it lol. Late for work.. so heres a teaser for now

those wheels are ugly... but at least they meet the fender. get some SP1's and a vertex kit.

The fit looks good on the wheels, but the bling factor is not quite right for a 240.

Couple more things done. Drained diff, new royal purple 80w-90 gear oil. Diff was installed as well! And i lucked out with the drive shaft. Apparently, the driveshaft that i had purchased earlier in the build was an abs driveshaft. Which is exactly what i need since the j30 diff is about 1/4" longer. Def. thrilled... Oh, and got the ebrake extension which will go in soon. Finding its placeMore wheel fitment pics. This time suspension is not jacked

Um, did you swap the diff cover over from the open diff? You're supposed to do that.

Looks like he did do that. The J30 one I got in the backyard has 2 bolts on the cover. The 180sx one I got in my garage has 4 bolts like that on the cover.

One thing you can try with the axle nuts if they are stuck on too hard, jack up the end of the breaker bar with a hydraulic jack, super easy.

Haha thx bro. Much appreciated.

Buncha degreaser and brake cleaner to dry it all up. Make sure there isnt any residue on anything because the paint will form around it. Leaving you with unpainted areas.

Update before todays work... no introduction or commentary needed.
